Manchester City are prepared to wait for Carlos Tevez - and will let the striker have the final say on whether he returns to face Liverpool.

The Blues will be without midfielder Patrick Vieira for the crucial clash after he accepted the FA's charge of violent conduct - he has been given a three-match ban - so boss Roberto Mancini would love to have his top scorer in the side on Sunday as the two major rivals for fourth spot go head-to-head at Eastlands.

Tevez has missed the Blues' last two matches after being allowed to return home to Buenos Aires to spend time with his new daughter Katie, who was born prematurely last weekend.

City have been in regular contact with the striker, with Mancini indicating he may return to Manchester today, however, he will let the player make the final decision.

Vieira, meanwhile, looks set to also miss the FA Cup replay at Stoke City as well as the Premier League trip to Chelsea a week on Sunday after deciding not to appeal against the FA charge for kicking Glenn Whelan in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

Referee Alan Wiley spoke to Vieira at the time, but took no action.

However, after reviewing TV footage of the incident, Wiley reportedly informed the FA - who will rule on the punishment today - that he would have sent Vieira off if he had seen the challenge properly.

What do you think? Have your say.
