That is the view of Blues boss Roberto Mancini, who admits he has been frustrated at seeing the former Arsenal ace on the sidelines since signing for City.
Vieira is now back in training and will be assessed today before Mancini decides whether to hand him a debut at Hull, at home to Bolton on Tuesday, or even in the FA Cup fifth round clash with Stoke next week.
But Mancini wishes he had the Frenchman's vast experience to call on in the two-legged semi-final against United.
"If we had had Patrick at Everton or against United we would have stood a better chance," said Mancini, who also welcomes back Wayne Bridge and is prepared to risk Joleon Lescott on the bench.
"Patrick has trained with us for the last three days, and trained well. He has no problem with his calf, and if he has no reaction today, he will probably go with us to Hull."
And the Blues boss still feels his free acquisition from Inter Milan could have a big bearing on City's hunt for a top-four place and an FA Cup final. "He has a good mentality, has played for top teams, and has won many trophies," said the manager. "But he needs to play a game or two to get the feel for the game again."
Mancini shrugged off doubts over Bridge's mental state as he prepares to return to action at the KC Stadium for the first time in eight weeks following a medial knee ligament problem.
Wayne Bridge
"Wayne can play because he has worked with us for ten days and has no problems," said Mancini. "Other things, like his private life, are not important."
There will be no repeat of the show of solidarity by three team-mates last week, when Carlos Tevez, Nigel de Jong and Stevie Ireland wore "Team Bridge" T-shirts in the midst of revelations about his ex-girlfriend's alleged affair with John Terry, who is due to meet Fabio Capello in the next few days to discuss the captaincy now the England boss is back in the country.
Mancini revealed he met Franco Baldini, Capello's trusted assistant, on Monday.
"He asked me about Wayne and I told him it is not a good moment in his head but it's not a problem on the training ground. It's important he can play now and not think about the other person," said Mancini.
"Wayne is the best left-back in England and the Premier League. He is a fantastic man and a fantastic player."
Lescott has returned to training this week following knee surgery but he may have to settle for a place on the bench.
The manager, meanwhile, expressed his incredulity that the Blues were not granted a work permit for Kenya midfielder McDonald Mariga on transfer deadline day.
"The situation with Mariga was incredible," he said. "He is the top player in his country, his country is close to England, and he has been playing European football for seven years, so I don't understand it."
City then failed in a last-ditch bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago for £16m, but Mancini hinted the deal could be resurrected in the summer.
What do you think? Have your say.

Well, if Baconface thinks Brown is "the best natural defender in the country" then I can't argue with the Don. However, IMO I believe Evra is the best LB in the Prem and has been for some considerable time.

Mancini feels Bridge is the best left back in the PL, just like he feels his squad is the best in the PL, and we are the best fans in the PL. Isn't that what a winning mentality is all about? If it is, who are we to argue. Imo a player feels a lot better when the fans say he's the best instead of slagging him. What we bound to think is another matter ...

Bored with listening to people moaning about SI. Anybody with half a football brain will have picked up on him having to play completely different roles to last year, as well as a couple of injuries. He's great at what he does best which is linking play up from front to back. What he isn't good at is playing LW, RW or bossing a defensive midfield.
Last point regarding the Mariga / Kenya / Work permit fiasco. I didn't realise that the rag David Platt was on the board. The bloke NEVER has a good word to say about our club or team, so he was hardly going to support our bid for a work permit. It's a bit late now but these people must be accounatble and answer why they could not support the bid when he has played in the EU for the last seven years.
Looking forward to tomorrow as I haven't been to the KC stadium before. 0 - 2 to the boys in Blue.

haven't gone completely,IF his lengthy spell away from (a now even faster) Premier League doesn't mean the game passes him by.We may just have loaned a player who can play a big part in us getting that fouth place.

I hate fans like you. NEVER happy.
Will you still be saying that this time next season????
For all we know Viera could turn out to be a first team regular for us and give us his undoubted experience and quality on the road to trophies.
You wanna slag a team off the go over to the dark side and slag off their problems. The only problems we have are moaners like you!

ouldnt agree more, this man is out to hate city, and put donw city and seems the only reason he is working for sky is to put us down. Same goes with "Im a Massive blue" dixon. Platt is the worse football pundit just behind alan green, these two can never concentrate on the game. if we are winning its because of how much money we have spent, and ruining football, if we are losing its because we havent bought the right players, etc etc bla di bla.

When I was a lad reading a Shoot I read a feature about Crewe 'striker' (that's what he was) David Platt who under 'Likes/Dislikes' listed Manchester City, and the word 'hate' was mentioned. He's never had a good word for City.
