City have no Hiddink plans

MANCHESTER City have no plans to bring Guus Hiddink to the club, despite reports in Friday's papers that they had contacted his agent.

Blues boss Mark Hughes is under pressure after Wednesday night’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham left his side eighth in the Premier League.

City have won one of their last 10 league matches, although eight of those games have been draws.

Russia manager Hiddink has linked with a role at Eastlands, along with Roberto Macini, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.

Hiddink’s agent Cees Van Nieuwenhuizen is good friends with City chief executive Garry Cook, and the pair do speak regularly.

But M.E.N. Sport understands that the Blues have no plans to bring Hiddink to the club in any capacity.

Van Nieuwenhuizen has also made it clear that Hiddink – who had a spell in charge at Chelsea last season – is happy in charge of Russia.

Hiddink plans

When asked if he has spoken to the English club’s chief executive Garry Cook, the agent said: “Yes, I did.

“But Guus is happy with Russia. Definitely. I had a call because I have been working with Garry for 12 years since we worked together at Nike.

“But I have received calls from all over the world about Guus. There has also been an approach from Juventus.

“He (Cook) asked me if it would be worthwhile having a meeting to discuss the future and what might happen next summer. But I told him that Guus was contracted to Russia.

“I said I didn’t think it was worth having a meeting. Guus is very relaxed.

“He starts his holiday tomorrow and in January there are elections for a new president for the Russian Federation.

“He is contracted until next summer but there is an offer for him to stay for two more years, and I think he will definitely stay.”

Van Nieuwenhuizen claims City did not go into detail regarding a potential role for Hiddink, adding: “I don’t know because I said it was not worth discussing it because Guus was happy.”

Reports suggest Hiddink, who guided Chelsea to an FA Cup win as interim manager in the second half of last season, is prepared to consider his future in February.

What do you think? Have your say.

Give him a million pound a week and the best Manchester Tarts around then he'll sign....

Good, the quicker the better. And call Mourinho too.

Get him in asap. The rumours in the press say we are interested in David Bentley and Scott Parker! Bentley is clearly a disruptive element while Parker is a sicknote (almost as bad as that champion sicknote Reyna) who is well past his best. If that's the best that Hughes can come up with time he was shown the door. Make Gareth Barry our captain and when fit our first choice centrebacks should be Onouha and Lescott. What is the point of extending Weiss's contract if he never gets a chance and Hughes wants to purchase Bentley? If we had Hiddink you'd see a much better team witht he talent we have.

I would prefer Mourinho to come in if Hughes is going. He knows what it takes to win the Premiership.

The club need to make an announcement to confirm whether this approach is correct. Mr Cook has been quiet for weeks as I stated days ago when I suspected all was not well behind the scenes at COMS. Playing performances have slipped as a result.

The Chairman needs to let us all know what the hell is going on?

thats really helpful on the eve of a big game.

You know where this will go. We will start with Hiddink, Mourinho and Wenger. Then one by one they will drop out and we will end up with Keegan, Curbishley and Paul Jewel.

Let the panomine begin

Why the hell would anyone want to manage a club that no one in the world knows ?

When people hear the word Manchester in football they think "United" - the blue fans will always be in our shadow .... most of the top managers know that

I know the performance against the spuds was rubbish by both team and manager but we have to give Hughes the full season. If by then we have neither won a trophy or finished in the top four then he must go. I just feel getting someone in at the moment will not suddenly make everything great. I
know Hughes has a 'nited' past but that was then and this is now, forget that and get behind the team and manager tomorrow and next saturday and we'll have six points in the bag and a team on the up again. Rome was not built in a day but by all accounts the house I grew up in was and believe
me it was rubbish. Foamers, over to you!

Oh dear, doesn't bode well for MH

The option of bringing in someone alongside Hughes but rather than go down that route IF the owners want to keep Hughes is for Hughes to sack his failed "cast of thousands" coaches he has and bring in a young, eager, determined and ambitious coach to work with him. However the best option - even for Hughes as he would receive a multi million £ pay off - is to bring in a top quality manager. In the meantime NO Bentley from Spurs please - Hughes will pay a fortune for him and he cannot hold down a place at Spurs.

The idea that any agent would say to the richest club in the world " there's no need even for a meeting because I think my man is happy where he is" is clearly laughable (if the FA will let me use that word) so this story clearly isnt dead. Lets see where we are at the end of the season before making any desicion but you cant blame Cook for exploring the options in advance, thats just good management.

City have distanced themselves from this, which is understandable but there must be some truth in this.

Whether its Hiddink or not, one thing is clear that City need a manager with the right stature to get a performance our players. Things clearly aren't working.

I don't we can wait till summer, we need a change before the January transfer window opens.

I see paddy power have hughes 4/7 odds on for the sack,so something will happen sooner rather than later, thankfully.

Oh here we go again, the papers have been waiting all season for this type of mischief because we have lost our second game of the season with half our defence missing!
Hughes will bring in a holding midfield player and a defender which will hold up the ship before we launch again!
Bad luck to lose Johnson and Lescott/Bridge right now buts that's football!
City are only heading in one direction, lovin it!!

If they are going to replace MH then I would prefer it if they employed someone of a similar age so that he could be there for years to come.

Bristol Blue, Bristol

I couldn't agree more with you on the Weiss thing its the first thing I thought when I heard he'd signed a new deal, whats the point while MH is in charge as his record of blooding young talent is virtually non-existant!

He never brought anyone through at Blackburn either and prefers to perserve with his expensive flops, rather than give raw hungry talent a punt, whats the point of having one of the best academmy set ups in the country if Hughes just totally ignores it? Bringing young talent through an coaching them well is just as important as making good signing's look at Pep Guardiola at Barca he usually fields 6 or 7 home grown players and there I rest my case!

stevemac - agree on that one. seen it all before....thought we'd learned the lesson but obviously not. sadly its now these sort of forums that set the tone and gets a manager sacked....remember birm fans having a hate campaign against lee bowyer and look at them now. no-on ewanted bellamy here but look how thats turned out. be careful what you wish for. i'll see tomoro if city fans SUPPORT the club when its 0-0 at half time and someone has missed a sitter. booooooo boooooo......comical reaction isnt it. in the last two weeks spurs chelsea and arsenal have been booed off the pitch by their own 'supporters'....priceless.

You should get Robinho out first. The worst attitude in world football and he must undermine any ethos Sparky is trying to establish.

well thats it then , MH knows his time is limited now, we are openly looking for his replacement

GC Northstand: on another story you wrote that you are fed up with out of Manchester people posting. Why? I was born in Oldham, always supported City, go to games whenever I can with my son, have a CityCard, pay £45 round trip for 8 hours on the train, plus the tickets, go to most London games, Pompey and Brum.. Surely I am allowed to express my view on here. And if you want my view (from white hart lane) the team was set up wrong, there was no teamwork or spirit, we played with 9 men, and only Barry, Stephen, Nedum and DeJ were really trying. Oh and the City supporters were fantastic

Its time to get behind Hughes and everyone involved. Thirty years of chopping and changing the manager has done us no good. Three good results can turn this season round plus a win against the nutters in the Semis of the cup. Hiddink's team choked when they were 95% sure of qualifying for the WC and he would probably fail at Eastlands.
