EASTLANDS is a long way to travel for a group of mad-keen City fans from Scandinavia - but they still feel it's `Home Swede Home'.

The loyal supporters from the Swedish branch of the Blues' Official Supporters' Club made a mammoth journey across land and sea to cheer on their favourites against Hull this afternoon.

It was a journey of around 1,000 miles for those fans just to get to Manchester.

And they were hoping to make it worthwhile by seeing City end a run of six straight Premier League draws with a convincing win.

They even have their own banner at the City of Manchester Stadium to show their love for the Blues - it is located at the top of the Colin Bell Stand and bears the message `Citizens Of Sweden'.

That is the official name of the Supporters' Club's Swedish branch, formed in 2008.

It is a clear sign that there is a corner of the Blues' home ground that will be forever Swedish, even though it's nearly 18 months since Sven-Goran Eriksson left the club.

The banner is certainly helping to keep City in the public eye in Sweden - with a little help from the M.E.N.

We publicised the banner when M.E.N. reader Willie White, a lifelong City fan from Denton, wrote in to ask just who were the fans making the long journey from Sweden to cheer on the Blues.

Anders Rosen, the vice-chairman of the Citizens of Sweden branch, then got in touch with us to explain just how popular the club have become in his homeland.

Rosen, 53, said: "We have members all over Sweden, from the north all the way down to Malmo in the south.

"People ask us why we support Manchester City, and we can't always give an answer!

"I started supporting them in the 1970s, shortly after English league games started being shown live on Swedish TV.

"I've supported them ever since.

"When the banner appeared in the Manchester Evening News, it was a big thing for us, and it created a lot of attention back home.

"We thought it was incredible that our banner should make it into an English newspaper. The City fans in Sweden were very excited about it!"
