The 33-year-old keeper is contracted to the Blues until 2013 and he has made it plain that he wants to remain at Eastlands for the duration.
Given will be the last line of defence for the Republic of Ireland as they seek to overturn a 1-0 deficit in France tonight and book an unlikely place at next summer's World Cup finals.
But he was quick to nail his colours to the City mast, saying: "I'd love to finish my career here.
"I haven't been here long but I already feel at home and love the club.
"I grew up a Celtic supporter and they have a big place in my heart but I really hope I can finish my career here. You can never say never but I'd like to think I will."
Given was bought from Newcastle for an initial £6m almost a year ago, and has since underlined his status as one of, if not the, best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
And he is convinced that the move was the right one to make, saying: "It's a great period to be at Manchester City. There's such excitement in the dressing room.
"There's a real feeling of optimism and we believe we're going places. It's been a great adventure for me and I couldn't be happier."
Manager Mark Hughes has urged a degree of caution on the chances of City winning something this season but Given says that even the league title is possible.
"If we win our game in hand we'll only be a couple of points behind United," he added. "We need to keep going and winning away games, which will be crucial.
"We have a fantastic team and a strong squad, but it will be tough because there are some great sides in this league."

He has already won us points this season and rarely makes mistakes and i think the only thing stopping being the best in the WORLD is perhaps he does not come for enough crosses, but is still world class..

Well done Shay and good luck with the Republic tonight. I've already made it clear that I'll be late for work tomorrow to watch you help upset the French

I know it's almost heresy to criticise Shay Given but you have to ask why he's been part of suspect defences for his entire career. He gets praise for 'knowing his limitations' but top class smaller goalkeepers like Iker Casillas have learned to punch balls out into the channels to take pressure off. It's infinitely preferable to leaving it to the centre halves to deal with when it turns into a lottery - if the striker angles his run right then there's absolutely nothing you can do about it as a defender. Goalies can use their arms and get huge amounts of protection from referees. We're not using any of this to our advantage when Seamus is rooted to his line.
If he added this to his game then he may be worthy of the acclaim which he gets, but smart managers like Ferguson just tell their players to put cross after cross onto Given (remember the second half of the derby) and it ends up forcing a goal.
I'm the last person on these boards who you could criticise as being a 'foamer' - but the most settled our defence has been in years was when David James was soaking up every cross which came into our 18 yard box. To be fair to Shay he hasn't got the same physical stature which Jamo had, but he's about 6'1" and should be able to get his arms to everything in the 6 yard box - and have the confidence to do so at the age of 33 with 100+ international caps.

Excellent post mate. I like Given and glad we have him (I think!) but do cringe at some of this "best keeper in the world" nonsense. As Gaz said, he does have his faults.
