The 25-year-old Manchester City striker would like to spend more time with his family and may return to Argentina with Boca Juniors or turn his back on the game all together.
He revealed in an interview with Argentinian newspaper Ole: "It crosses my mind to hang up my boots if we win the World Cup, although I have a contract until 2014 (with Manchester City).
"It's complicated, there's my family, the desire to return to Boca Juniors, but I think about it."
Tevez moved to City from neighbours Manchester United last summer after winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League at Old Trafford.
He added: "I'm a little tired of so much football, so much football...I want to enjoy my family a bit.
"I'm very keen to stop and get a bit of calm. I've already won a lot. Living for football has saturated me a lot."
Tevez is also not concerned by his limited opportunities under Argentina coach Diego Maradona.
"I had my chances and I couldn't perform at 100 per cent," he added. "When the team needs goals, you need to score them.
"I couldn't do it and if you don't do it, someone else will come in and get their chance.
"That's how the national team is and it seems fine to me because there are no crowns for anyone."
Tevez, speaking ahead of the friendly with Spain in Madrid, is determined to take his chance to prove his ability to Maradona at the next opportunity and vowed to be at his very best next June in South Africa.
"Nobody likes to be a substitute," he added. "(But) it doesn't worry me to sit on the bench and I will support my team-mates.
"I'm not going to make it easy for them (the other strikers).
"I'm not going to sit with my arms folded and watch the World Cup pass by.
"No, I want to play, I want to enjoy it, I want to be there and I'm going to try 10 times harder than before.
"I'm determined to turn this situation around. At the World Cup they are going to see the best Carlitos Tevez."

Why is it that South Americans appear to be so contradictory. They say one thing but quite often mean something completely different. If he and Robbie think it is beneath them to play for City for the vast amounts of cash that they do, then give up your shirts and let someone have them who has and will take pride in it.

Re CT, George Graham used to have a policy of not getting players from clubs bigger than Arsenal because they came with the attitude that they are doing you a favour. CT, Robinho and Ade both have bitterness and keep looking back at their former clubs rather than forward with City.
We're damned if we do and damned if we don't because to move upwards, we need to get better players from bigger clubs. Problem is, we don't yet have a number of the essential ingredients, like
1 a proven world class manager with a rep for attracting and managing top players - MH may have the talent to get there but we don't really know - Mourinho would be perfect
2 the courage to drop Tevez - he slows the game down at home and loses us the slick passing fluency (just like rodney marsh did years ago) that we had last year with SWP, Superman and Robinho. MH is using Superman in the wrong position as a box to box when last year he was a brilliant attacking midfielder scoring and producing defence splitting passes with his back covered by NDJ and VK.
3 a pressure cooker atmosphere with a wall of sound behind the South goal like they have at the Kop - moving the noisy corner to the south stand behind the goal (where the away fans are now) would help tremendously because their chanting would be joined by those of us already behind that same goal in stands 217 to 219. Without this wall of sound, we'll never influence refs like they do at OT, Anfield and Chelsea

1. Completely under the control of his agent.
2. Does not have the basic intelligence to learn to speak english.
3. SAF had already made his mind up NOT to sign Tevez after first year of loan period.
4. Has told friends that he only signed for City because of the money and not needing to move home.
No loyalty. No Desire. No Goals.
