The City star was pencilled in for a possible Blues return at the end of this month, after a three-month absence with a stress fracture of the ankle.
And he left City's training camp in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday to join up with his national team in Qatar for what was expected to be a brief medical examination.
But City boss Mark Hughes learned last night - via journalists attending the team's 1-0 friendly defeat by the United Arab Emirates - that Brazil are considering playing him.
That became even more likely when news filtered out of Brazil's camp that Robinho was to appear at a press conference today - highly unusual if he is not expected to play against England or in next Tuesday's friendly in Oman.
The sight of Robinho playing virtually a full part in an extensive training session only further fuelled a feeling he was going to be involved.
Hughes was clearly shocked by the news, after saying the club doctor, who accompanied the player, had given no such indication.
"The decision was made that he could stay with them under the proviso that he doesn't take any part in the game, so we don't expect him to play on Saturday or Tuesday," Hughes said, before learning of the impending press conference.
"I am not aware of that. I can only give you what our doctor has been told," said Hughes.
"We sent him with Robi because we wanted them to know, in no uncertain terms, that he was very much of a risk if he is involved in the games.
"He has had one training session in eight to ten weeks, so to suggest he would be ready for an international against England, would be foolhardy, in my opinion."
The Brazilian FA normally enjoy good relations with Eastlands and coach Dunga, who like Fabio Capello, will not see his players again until March, was only following precedent by calling on Robinho.
Even if the controversial £32.5m star does not play, the likelihood is he would not be available to train with City until Thursday next week, giving him just two days to prove his fitness ahead of the meeting with Liverpool at Anfield on November 21.

Let's see how much use he is to Brazil in the summer then hey.
Cutting our nose off to spite our face? Absolutely, this country/club stuff is a joke, we lost Petrov for most of the season because Bulgaria played him when he wasn't ready. It's not the first time and won't be the last.

Can you imagine if Kaka had actually signed for City ? I think he would have commited suicide by now.

Even when he plays for Brazil he floats in and out of the game, yes he was the business at home for three months when we signed him but since going AWOL is not the same player and seldom turns up away from home.
Let him go but only if Barcelona pay us back our £32.5m, otherwise let him train and play with the A team we are the only club in the world who can afford to do this, if he breaches his contract and walks we can sue him.
For Hughes this is not good news, he has bent over backwards to keep him on side but even this has failed, can he motivate pampered stars with big ego's?
The jury is out and if Ade’s performance last Saturday was anything to go by I have my doubts.
Cheers.
PS On a lighter note, apparently Chelsea are claiming £900,000 from the FA as they feel Frank Lampard picked up an injury whilst having to travel on a “cramped economy jet”.
The poor pampered love, maybe these guys should have one of those massive Airbus jets each when they are “forced” to travel.

The Press are making a Mountain out of a mole hill once again over Robinho. They are trying, yet again, to rifle up friction between Robbie and the club!!!! Why cant they accept that a world class player is not at a so called 'BIG FOUR' club!
The quicker Robinho returns, the quicker our draws will turn into Victories. Whatever the negative blue fans moan about him, he will always create space for our other attackers. He has at least 2 players on him each time he has the ball. Just look at the space he gave to Ireland last year! Hurry back 'HOME' Robinho...all in one piece i hope!

But if he does play then can I reccomend that we send him out on loan to one of the Russian clubs as I hear they have plenty of money these days.
So there you are Robbie, if it is cobblers then apologies, if you play on Saturday then I expect to see you on the next plane to Moscow.

He hasn't played for them yet. He hasn't said anything personally. He hasn't criticised Hughes. He hasn't criticised City.
Sue him??? Ridiculous.
Get off his back for doing absolutely nothing wrong. IT IS THE PRESS.
He is our player, back and he will come good for us again! He has hardly played this season - give him a chance!

The man has hardly spent a day in Manchester since the summer break, it's a disgrace that he's allowed to make City a laughing stock by running off to Brazil at the drop of a hat and through his constant references to Barca and his desire to play for them.
As a season ticket holder i feel cheated by this individual who in my opinion is a footballing enigma when it comes to playing for Manchester City.
Time to end this shambolic affair once and for all......lets not blame Hughes for this.....rather the lack of desire of a player (in more ways than one)who clearly has other destinations in mind.
I know people will come on here saying what a great player he is and I don't disagree with that.....but surely as fans we must ask ourselves is it worth trying to get blood out of a stone???
How much value have we had as fans from Robi so far this season???
Does he really want to play for City anymore????
What will the club do if he plays for Brazil and gets another injury.....possibly until January????

Hughes trying his best to placate things and keep everyone onside.
Robinho could put it all to bed by putting the record straight once and for all, however the silence is deafening.
sheik rattle and roll, stroud (13/11/2009 at 10:54)
How come?
Is it that Dunga hasn't discovered what a lazy diva, overpaid ballerina, and over-rated strop who never put's a shift in (that a lot of "fans" on this site tend to call him) he is?
Or is it that MH hasn't discovered that he is one of the worlds greatest footballers (that most people with a bit of football knowledge seem to think) and therefore should be given a role that gets the best out of him?.
Is it so that MH's idea of football simply doesn't fit creative players and instead of favoring class, favors the ol' put-a-shift-in mentality?
If so, that's scary! An attitude that kept England away from international glory for +40 years and frankly hasn't been relevant in society or for anyone since WWII is still dominating almost an entire nations football thinking?!
Time to step out of post-war-depression mentality and join the rest of humanity MH (and all yes-sayers).

Where in Eastlands do you sit? You're so obsessed with City that you must be a season ticket holder and love everything about the club.
Either that or you're a tosser.
