The former Liverpool star and now respected pundit ridiculed Bridge's performance against Burnley on Saturday, blaming the full-back for two of the Clarets goals as they held City to a 3-3 draw at Eastlands to pick up their first away point of the season.
At one point Hansen said Bridge was so bad "I almost felt sorry for him".
It left Hughes to question just how much football Hansen actually watches.
"Pundits on Match of the Day or whatever just have an opportunity to nail individuals in the public domain," said the Manchester City boss.
"But we are not going to do. We look to analyse our mistakes and make sure, in future, we are better in similar situations.
"I am sure that their process involves looking at incidents in games, but not taking it as a whole.
"That is the role in life that they have decided to follow and that is the way it has to be. But there is a frustration when they don't go into particularly in-depth analysis.
"I would question how many games they actually watch live, from the start to the conclusion of games."
Class
It could hardly be argued Bridge enhanced his reputation at the weekend, although his performance did not prevent him getting picked in Fabio Capello's England squad for Saturday's friendly with Qatar, when, with Ashley Cole ruled out, he might well start.
However, Hughes is convinced the £12million defender will eventually prove what a top class player he is.
"Wayne is an experienced player who has won Premier League titles and been part of teams that have been at the top end. He understands what it is all about," said Hughes.
"At times, individuals will make decisions that affect the team and sometimes you have to hold your hand up. But he will be fine."
Hughes had record signing Robinho and fellow striker Craig Bellamy in the squad that landed in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
Bellamy was a surprise inclusion after withdrawing from the Wales squad to face Scotland in order to nurse a knee injury that Hughes feels will restrict him to competitive internationals in future.
Robinho is still out with an ankle injury, so he will not be involved against the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, the centrepiece of City's five-day trip to the home of their owners.
It adds some much-needed stardust given the number of absences as City step up their quest to become the region's most popular club.
"We hope to become the club of choice for the people of Abu Dhabi and make them proud of the football we play in the same way we aim to do with our supporters in Manchester," said Hughes.
"Our main focus is to train, play the game and win, but we will go there representing Manchester City, which is a big honour.
"We will make ourselves accessible during the week and we will make sure everybody appreciates how we feel about playing and working for a great club."

Bridge (3rd goal), Toure (2nd goal marking space) and Lescott (several lapses) were indeed vulnerable. Hughes will attend this. I hope, because we have too good a frontline that needs to be feeded from midfield and that will be hard if two holding midfielders are just busy protecting the defence.

Rightly or not, Hansen slaughtered Wayne Bridge to the point where he has halved the players value and destroyed what little confidence he has left. Now the young United defence had a shocker last week against CSKA but no one slaughtered them quite like Hansen's hatchet job - result - they play well at Chelsea on Sunday. If Hughes decides to drop Bridge, and in my opinion he should, it looks like he's done it because Hansen says so - so who's picking the team ? Hansen or Hughes ? Lots of expensive players from the big four have played badly at some stage or other but I can't remember them getting treatment like that before. Its interesting how many pundits really are sharpening the knives for any City player. I hope Bridge recovers from his mauling and scores the winner at Anfield - I'd laugh at that.

Anyway, if he's as sensible and resilient a lad as Hughes would have us believe in this article, then I trust he will be looking at his own horror show and get down to making sure it never happens again.
Good professionals learn fast from their mistakes. What I can't understand is how someone as experienced as Bridgey could make so many basic errors in a single match.
Bridge's game is very similar to Ashley Cole however what's different with Cole is that he maintains his line and only drifts inside when it's absolutely necessary to cover. That's good full back play in my book. Talking about book - that's how the great Tony Book was so effective. Maintaining his position, holding his line and making sure that the winger didn't turn him one way or the other.
At the moment Bridgey isn't really doing any of that.
Although he's on a different flank, the basics are the same. Bridgey would do well to spend an hour or two with Bookie discussing full back play in general.

I know a ex-pro LB (Championship level retired 2 yrs ago) and I asked him this very question and he agreed (by the way played against us at Maine Road and won).
I''ve also noticed a growing number knocking Tevez - one minute you loved him now there are doubts - perhaps you never saw him play before. What he needs is Robbie's calmness in front of goal so he can capitlise on the chances he creates for himself - whoa sorry apparently Robbie's crap as well - must be Barca want him!
We could sign (at their peak) the likes of Moore, Best, Pele, Jarzinho, Maradona and you'd find fault - there are some I'm sure would say Bell, Lee, Summerbee were not all they were cracked up to be.
SO FOR GOD'S SAKE YOU LOT SHUT THE WOTSIT UP AND SUPPORT YOUR TEAM.

Hansen I am sorry to say was 100% right! Even the dogs in the street know how poor City are at the back, time to wake up & smell the coffee Hughes & stop trying to defend the indefensible!

I would have a damm sight more respect for Hughes if he either held his hands up and accepted that he was not up to the task ahead, and resigned, or privately accept that he has made poor, overpriced defensive signings and beg the owner for a kitty to put this right in January. Somehow I don't think he will do either, due to his obvious stubborness, so he will persist with the three stooges, along with Richards or Zaballeta, whoo are just as poor.
If I was the clueless one I would be giving Alan Hansen a ring and asking him if he's got a spare afternoon to nip down to Carrington to teach our overpriced wasters how to defend.

Point is, easy to criticise from studio 5 another thing being in the firing line. Good as they were as CBs I remember Hanson and Lawro dropping the odd clanger!
Same with you lot hammering your keyboards in frustation.
I'm off playing tonight by the way.

I think Hughes thinks he is Ferguson, maybe he is but without the talent, tactical nous, eye for a player etc etc - pathetic really.

At least everyone can then continue to and have reason to moan, act like they know something when clearly they don't and probably have lives equally pathetic to their gripes on this site. Please for christ sake give it a rest, your doing my head in.
