ALEX Nimely conjured up a stunning goal to settle the first Manchester reserve derby of the season.

The England Under-20 ace drifted in behind the United defence on 20 minutes to get on the end of Greg Cunningham's pinpoint diagonal pass, and volley it first time over Reds keeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

It was a deserved lead for the young Blues, who welcomed back Donal McDermott after his loan spell at League Two side Chesterfield.

They had begun much the brighter of the two sides, Nimely sending a header just wide, as United struggled to create clear chances.

The Reds' task got harder on 57 minutes when Scott Wootton was given a straight red card for a bad challenge.

But the visitors then staged a bold revival, and Cunningham went from provider to saviour, popping up on the line to clear after Febian Brandy had finally managed to steer the ball beyond City keeper Gunnar Nielsen.

Not a great report. What were the teams? Did City field any big name players who are returning from injury? How many turned up to watch this game? Was Mark Hughes amongst the spectators?

What was the discussing about with recent Academy- and Reserves results disappointing some on here? U-18's 6-0 win over Stoke, Reserves an easy 1-0 over the rags. Again, don't read too much into these results. As for Bobby Johnson Hong Kong, just go to the clubs' website and all the information you want is there. And I'm not defending the MEN ...

crikey we are forever being told that most CITY fans come from Stockport. Furthermore its nice to see some more 'rags' coming on our side,it just proves that they are worried yet they have the 'neck' to criticise some of the city fans writing about their team,we do but only to point out the obscene favourtism they enjoy from the FA and their officials,now it seems they are starting to enjoy the same facility in Europe and again have the 'neck' to say Fletcher didn't dive last night --HYPOCRITES---
