The 23-year-old midfielder was substituted during City's Carling Cup win over Fulham in September after complaining of feeling dizzy and unwell.
He was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital but was later released when tests failed to reveal the mystery illness and was back in action for the Blues within 12 days after picking up an unrelated stomach bug.
"It was a bit of a strange scare for me," said Ireland, who last month picked up the M.E.N's Greater Manchester Player of the Year gong.
"Thankfully it wasn't too serious because at the time I thought that was the end of me but I don't even know what it was. I've had every test that there is and still don't know what it was.
"It took me a while to get right but I'm back on track. Everything is looking positive."
Ireland has not played a full 90 minutes since his scare and has not started a league game, although he is in line for a return against Burnley on Saturday.
But he been impressed with the speed with which the host of summer signings have settled into life at Eastlands, and insists that can only bode well in the Blues' bid to end their wait for a trophy.
"Everyone has settled in well," added Ireland. "We've almost got a brand new squad but we've clicked really well.
"We've got to get on with it if we want to achieve things and we want to win things this year.
"So either we blend quickly or we don't get the chance to win trophies and that's the last thing we want at City because the spotlight is on us.
"Personally I was really happy with every player we brought in during the summer.
"All the players that we signed were the players that I would have signed if I was the manager because I rate them all so highly."

PLEASE - can we do away with these adverts which suddenly kick in with sound! Bad enough at home but at work a DISASTER!! You can be quietly catching up on the City news when BOOM! the office rocks with the commentary from the Virgin advert. Not good - the videos are fine but the music and loud commentary are not condusive to the office! (We're working on that - sorry, Ed)

St Helens Blue - I think you may be the "Johnny come lately". 2 seasons ago SI was bobbins.
Last season and so far this (when played) he's been outstanding, but it doesn't change how bad he used to be. All credit to SI and the staff involved for the turn round!
Onwards and upwards...

He wasn't as good before last season because he didn't have his extreme fitness regime that he has now, but now he's fit, lean and hard working and he wasn't player of the year for nothing.
Please give it a rest.

A few years ago I developed a condition called Arrythmia (irregular Heart beat) where my pulse was jumping from 23 beats a minte up to 200 at one particular time as you may be aware the normal heart rate is 50/ 60 per per minute.
As a consequence you suffer a frightening dizzy spell every few minutes and I can tell you as Stevie states it was a terrible experience. However unlike Stevie I was diagnosed and treated accordingly by means of a procedure called an ablation which a catheter burns the naughty cells off your heart in essence it is an electrical malfuction of the Heart, mine wasn't a total success but almost and my symptoms are controlled now by medication where thankfully I have no more dizzy spells.
Anyway enough of a medical lesson now and lets see Stevie back in our line up setting up and scoring goals that will gain us a top four spot in the Premiership, the media and vitriolic rival fans aren't helping because one little slip and they are on our backs, the squad have to overcome it and silence them with outstanding performances hence a run of victories,it can be achieved with the players we have and on a good note Lescott is slowly beginning to look the class defender he was at Everton....

And I hate to say it, but if we're starting with Petrov (Which I think we should), or Robbie when he's back, then there's no place in the starting eleven for Tevez !
Please put Bellamy on the right and give SWP a rest !
And at home, its either De Jong OR Barry, NOT BOTH !

Totally agree with you, bar one point. I would make Stevie the captain now.

But thank goodness Stevie is o.k and able to add that touch of class to our midfield. A cultured player.
