Manchester City

Hince's Blues verdict

IF there is any truth in the theory that time flies when you're enjoying yourself, then this season must have seemed like an eternity for King Kevin. A nine-month nightmare that came so close to ending in disaster.

With only one or two notable exceptions, Keegan's fabled powers of motivation fell on deaf ears as his expensively-assembled team of household names failed to live up to their reputations or to justify their bulging pay-packets.

One swallow doesn't make a summer and one victory over arch-rivals United in no way compensates City's magnificent fans who have stuck by their team through thin and thin.

Of course City's under-achieving players have to accept some of the responsibility, for their club's harrowing brush with relegation but the buck has to stop at the manager's door and this is one season that Keegan will want to forget.

KEEGAN'S RATING: 4

Have your say.

Kevin Keegan made more bad signings than almost any other manager. He seems to judge players on past reputation, living in some sort of time warp.
When you add Vuoso, sho cost B#3.5M and never made the team, well, I do not look forward to next season if City are persisting with failures like Fowler and McManaman. I cringed when they signed the latter as I always thought he was an erratic player at best. When you see Stead making such an impact at Blackburn and think of lower division players like Earnshaw of Cardiff, well, KK, when are we going to show some wisdom when it comes to signing players?
Get rid of the flops before we do get relegated.

"The players have to accept SOME responsibility" Surely Paul they have to accept the MAJORITY of it, THEY are the ones on the pitch, once they cross that white line KK and his team are powerless to help, there are enough experienced pro's out there to realise in any one game what needs changing, they shouldn't have to wait for half time to be told what they already know.

Yes, the manager should, and readily does, accept his part in this, in fact I think he has been more than generous to his underperforming bunch with some of his comments, although I guess he realises that a lot of them will still be here next season so it's no good slagging them off as he'll need them to at least try to perform at something approaching their best (Although for some their best is behind them I'm afraid)

Come on Paul have an opinnion! Keegan has to GO! Everyone with a brain knows that. No tactics, no coaching, no idea and no back room staff with a clue to tell him different. Add to that the fact he's backed by a peter ridsdale wannabee chairman and we will be relegated next season and go out of business. RIP man city.

It was interesting to hear from the players who said that they didn't usually focus too much on the opposition, more on their own game-plan. Surely no team can afford to go out onto the pitch without a plan to nullify the oppositions main threats. I'm not saying that you should worry yourself to death about what the opposition might, or might not do, but it sounds like the lack of basic preparation for playing against some of the best players in the world could have made a difference. I'm quite willing to give KK another chance to see if he really has learnt some lessons from this season. Dedication, Preparation & Application are required before the Skill-factor comes into play so let's get the basics right first. Maybe on the days when players might benefit from resting their weary legs, KK could bring them in for a S.W.O.T. analysis on the opposition, forewarned is forearmed as they say.
