The Blues needed extra time to beat Fulham in midweek but have been rewarded with a kind last-16 tie. Scunthorpe beat Port Vale in the last round.
The sides last met in the FA Cup in January 2006 when City emerged 3-1 winners.
The draw for the fourth round of the Carling Cup is as follows:
Blackburn Rovers v Peterborough United
Manchester City v Scunthorpe United
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton
Barnsley v Manchester United
Chelsea v Bolton
Sunderland v Aston Villa
Arsenal v Liverpool
Portsmouth v Stoke City
Ties to be played in week commencing 26th October
Will City win the Carling Cup? Have your say.

given, Vidal/trippier, komany, onouha, silvinho, Weiss, de jong, Johnson, petrov, Ball/Mak/Nimely, Santa cruz. since it's next month, kompany, onouha etc will be back, i really wish hughes put more faith in younsters as they really have been trying so hard with Nimely being called up for England under 20's, he's only 18, Mak, 18, Slovakia under 21's, him and santa cruz did well vs wrexham 1st team, Mak scored 2 and assisted 1, Man of the match he was.

Three from premiership teams Sunderland, Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton to go, this will tire the remaining three who all also have european commitments (except Sunderland).
Other teams we should comfortably beat.(Oh no, is that City optimism again or is it finally a reality!)

Lets see the ticket prices drop for this one an pump up the attendance,a straight £10 adults & £5 kids, we dont need the money and surely getting more kids through the gates would be a great loss leader for building a future fan base!!

The winner of that tie and slightly weaker Chelsea, Liverpool/Arsenal (one will be knocked out) & Manure sides are the only real hurdles left.
But then we are City and it wouldnt be us without making a home tie vs Scunthorpe more interesting that it should.

And if these 'fringe players' don't then come up with the goods will you be one of the first to blame Hughes? We need silverware and this is our easiest route to some. We need to go for it with our strongest team each match. We don't have the handicap of European games this season (we will next..) so players can't use tiredness as an excuse

I think the fridge players might prove to be a stiff challenge to Scunthorpe.

Now we have another home draw and a great chance in getting to the last eight. In addition to that we should have a full strength team to see, as we will never have a better chance of getting to Wembley, so come out from the fireside into the Autumn night and give it your all, and cheer the City towards Wembley !

This is the easiest route into Europe - 6 wins - not to mention a great day out for us.
