The FA also confirmed the ban will begin immediately, ruling him out of City’s match at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Adebayor had admitted the charge and was dealt with under the FA’s fast-track disciplinary system.
A separate charge of improper conduct, brought after the former Arsenal player ran the length of the pitch to taunt Gunners fans with a goal celebration, will be considered at a later date.
The FA said in a statement: “A regulatory commission today considered the charge of violent conduct issued against Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor under the fast-track disciplinary procedure following an incident with Robin van Persie during their fixture against Arsenal on the 12th September.
“Taking into consideration Mr Adebayor’s acceptance of the charge of violent conduct the regulatory commission have ordered that he serve a three-match suspension from all football, commencing Thursday 17th September.
“A separate charge of improper conduct will be considered at a later date.”
City may contest the improper conduct charge - they have until September 30 to respond to that allegation. Tweet

Still not sure we are good enough for Top 4 but certainly we can challenge Top 6.
United are a very good team and should beat us, I thought we had a chance if Tevez/Adebayor were available but in football who knows...
I just hope this is all put to bed and we can move on and produce some energetic controlled football but I fear we shall have to be at our very best because in every game this season there has been periods when we have lost possession for long periods of play, Chelsea, Liverpool and United simply do not do this!

ok,so now he has a 3 match ban....what happens now with the 90 yard dash to the other end of the pitch?neville was fined 5k for his taunting of liverpool, that is the precedent set,a further ban would almost seem that the so called fa,have it in for city, because of our spending powers.surely,a case worth fighting for.we cant have one rule for the rest of the PL,and there have been plenty of high profile cockups by the ruling bodies, and one rule for city because we are the richest club in the world.GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND AND DO THE RIGHT THING.

Well, I'm no rocket scientist and even to me it was never in doubt. As Oasis sang, we've got to "Roll With It" and prove any doubters wrong on Sunday and after that.
What next; persecuted for being City fans? It would be interesting to see if the FA have made a rod for their own back, but seeing as they're a spineless bunch in general, I even doubt that.
Cue unpunished clattering and stamping by the Rags on Sunday.
Joke!
Can'r really argue with this. It was a silly reaction to a potentially dangerous challenge so we will have to bite the bullet. However, the other charge of improper conduct is very unfair and I hope the club contest it, or at the very least cite Van Persie for his charge and foul and abusive language to the City fans. Where do we stop if a charge like this is upheld? Will players not be able to celebrate at awau games unless they run down to their own support (even if it is at the opposite end to where the goal is scored)? A can of worms potentially...
FA response to my complaints about Robin van Persie. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.
Thank you for contacting The Football Association.
Having reviewed the incident and spoken with Greater Manchester Police and the Match Official, The FA have contacted Robin van Persie to remind the player of his responsibilities as a professional with regards to his future conduct. No further action will be taken.
We do appreciate all of the feedback we receive from supporters. This feedback is collated and used to build a picture of public opinion and is subsequently fed back internally within the organisation. Please rest assured your suggestions will form part of this feedback process.
Thank you again for taking the time to write.
Kind regards

Right move on, work on the team for sunday, bring in whoever shows the most desire in training between Zaba, Petrov and Weiss...
From SSN website regarding further charge of improper conduct:
"The forward ran the entire length of the field to celebrate directly in front of the visiting fans, causing several supporters to surge forward towards the playing area."
EXCUSE ME BUT "CAUSING"????????
Just how is it actually causal exactly??
The two incidents are not physically synergetic.
Their thicko thuggish racist filthy supporters are therefore not indeed responsible for their own actions then??? Therefore Adebayor should be charged with GBH as he is the one actually directly responsible for the poor steward getting knocked out then??
This episode stinks to high heaven and I am disappointed to the extreme that their fans are not charged!! Didn't CCTV catch the kn 0 b who threw the bottle that sparked the steward?
I am fuming about all this.
Dear Sirs,
I am pleased that you will be taking no further action against Mr. Adebayor, in regards his celebration after scoring for Manchester City against Arsenal.
I appreciate that you have not yet 'formally' released this ruling, but your 'reminder' for Mr. Van Persie is clear proof that no further action can be deemed warranted against Mr. Adebayor.
Mr. Van Persie ran towards opposing fans, made aggressive motions with his hands and arms, was clearly shown to use foul and abusive language targeted at opposing fans and left the field of play.
Mr. Adebayor only ran towards the fans, nothing else.
I am pleased that you will show equal treatment of all players, irrespective of the club for which they play.
120 hours after the incident the FA's 'Fast Track' decisions process reveal the length of ban!!
am I the only blue that is willing to say Ade should be sorry for his actions and apologetic to US because his thoughtless actions have left us considerable weaker for the biggest game of the season?? You may be a good player, but you must be disciplined or we will come undone. hopefully the management will adress this and not let Ade get away with such stupid actions
No surprise to any of us this decision from a biased and vindictive F.A. Now let`s move on to Sunday and show the world what this club is made of by taking another three points. CTID
Under the ground/stadium regulations a person should not leave their seat unless they are leaving the ground or going onto the concourse area. Also when you purchase a seat be it through City or any other club the seller will keep a record of the purchasers personal details(i would assume that in this case all tickets would have been sold to season tkt/box/corporate)and seat details so identifying people that took part in the said fracas should be a relatively easy exercise for the investigating authority.
And all this cary on just because City have stopped letting them win. What next eh!!

Having a full strength team doesn't necessarily result in a derby win. It's the desire of those players out on the pitch that counts. For example, all who were at Maine Road in 1989 will recall the trepidation felt before the game with a team of mostly young lads and reserves playing against a virtually full strength Rag team.
I'm not saying this is going to be another 5-1, but I would be surprised if we lose on Sunday and I expect that we will win it.
Adebayor gets banned for 3 games, Eduardo gets let off with a blatant dive, RVP moves towards City fans and makes gestures plus using foul language, let's see what happens to him............wait a minute, he plays for arsenal, so NOTHING will happen. The same old, same old for the protected top 4 teams, I would LOVE IT if City and Spurs can finish in the top 4 to shove 2 of them out, I don't care which 2 (as long as one is united)

Well said. I am fuming also. It is the blatancy of the inequity that infuriates me. There should be clear rules about what a player can and cannot do. It cannot be left to the FA to merely interpret a player's actions as being one thing, whilst ignoring other factors and all sense of perspective, and invoking a woolly "improper conduct" charge where it sees fit.
Where does it state in the rules of the game that a player cannot celebrate a goal by running and sliding on his knees within the field of play and opening his arms? Further, there is no rule, that I am aware of, about celebrating a goal in front of away supporters. So the FA must squeeze their opinion of what is right and what is wrong into this "improper conduct" charge. I guess, therefore, that anything could be deemed improper conduct if the FA so deems it?
It simply not enough to say, oh, yeah, well it is improper conduct isn't it? Prove it. The man said nothing to incite fans to act like hooligans. He did not egg them on in any way. If I look at someone in the wrong way (in their opinion) and they smash my face in, does that make me guilty of improper conduct? If an attractive woman wears provocative clothing, walks down a dark alley on her own and subsequently suffers a sexual attack, was she guilty of improper conduct? It is unacceptable to say the player knew better. He did nothing wrong.
As you said, there is no link causal link between the player's actions and the fans behaviour. It was their choice to behave like that, not his.
Bet the Rags are delighted.. It'll make things fairer on Sunday.

Exactly, so we are the underdogs for another derby. What's new? Just like old times. We have every chance of winning this weekend and, if nothing else, I expect us to make it very difficult for them in midfield. Stick De Jong on Fletcher and give SWP some protection this time. They kicked him all over the park in the last fixture.

I don't think it requires much action on City's part. Yes, he may have intended to kick VP, only he knows that, but worse happens every week and goes unpunished. He is a victim of the massive hype surrounding City and the fact that it was against his old team etc etc. The (hypocritical) comments from the VP didn't help either. I think, as it has been blown out of all proportion, we don't need to discipline him. I imagine it was a one off (until we get to the Emirates). I don't think Fergie will be saying anything to Scholes about his sending off, do you?
If you Bitters are that enraged why don't a few of you boycott a few games in protest? Starting with the 5000 extra fans that you have had in the opening two games at the Boo Camp this season? Bloody glory hunters, hound em'out.
OK it has been confirmed he has a 3 match ban, quite right for kicking the Arsenal player in the face, a large percentage of you bitters who have posted are saying it is a conspiracy, a witch hunt, the big four sorted the ban out with the F.A., the B.B.C., Sky, the red rag tops Alan Green Mark Lawrenson etc , etc all hate the massives. Can someone from all you who have posted please explain the following do the big four have a meeting with the F.A. after every City game ?, if so where do they meet ?, do the big four the F.A. Sky, B.B.C. the red rag tops Alan Green etc etc all make phone calls to each to conspire against the massives ?, I am intrigued to know can you give some facts , proof on this conspiracy and please no abuse.
Hilarious comments as per usual.
6 match ban and a £50.000 fine now for bring the game into disrepute.
Justice done.
Don't fret, peeps. Ade won't be banned for the celebration. Serious provocation, plus RvP's goal-scoring gesture, plus Neville's precedent, plus Ade's non-aggressive celebration, means he'll get off with a small fine (to him!!!) and a warning as to his future conduct.
Doesn't make the 3-match ban any easier to take (I refer peeps to my pro-Ade rant towards the end of the "City set to accept Adebayor ban" thread), but at least that should be the end of the on-field punishment.
And to those City fans criticising Ade what he did (under the worst provocation!!)....
Nah! You're not even worth bothering with.
''Where does it state in the rules of the game that a player cannot celebrate a goal by running and sliding on his knees within the field of play and opening his arms? '' City Slipper (among other notrights).
It doesnt, to answer your question. But hes been banned for the stamp.
Hope this helps....

Plus, if Adebayor's actions caused them to riot, then surely their singing of racist slurs caused him to run the length of the field, and so on, ad finitum...
