It seems certain the Football Association will this week charge the £25million Manchester City forward with violent conduct for his apparent stamp on Robin van Persie's face during Saturday's 4-2 win over Arsenal.
Adebayor is also expected to face a separate charge for his inflammatory goal celebration, which could bring additional punishment.
FA chief executive Ian Watmore on Sunday confirmed they would "take a good close look" at both incidents, the latter of which referee Mark Clattenburg decided was worthy of a booking.
But former Gunners striker Adebayor, who ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans after scoring, told The Sun: "I don't know what I have done wrong to get banned.
"I have not heard the police or FA want to talk to me. The club have not said anything.
"I heard that a steward was injured (when fans threw missiles) and I regret that. I have apologised to Robin van Persie.
"It was silly to run up in front of the Arsenal fans. But these people have been insulting me all game."
He added: "I didn't plan it, not at all. I didn't even know that I would score. The way things were going from the warm-up, at the end it came into my head.
"I would like to apologise to the steward for what happened, why not?" Tweet

I believe the FA panel consists of members of both Arsenal and the rags so no conflict of interest there then...
If Ade get banned I will be so shocked. Football is all about entertainment and I was laughing my head off when he celebrated his goal. It reminded me of Nicky Weavers celebration run at Wembley Stadium. Brilliant stuff.
Watmore while you're at it trying taking a look at Robin Van Persie's celebration in front of the City fans and his initial challenge on Adebayor which prompted the response.

Based on who's opinion? Once again, this looks much worse in slow motion than normal speed, how anyone is expected to respond to a dangerous 2 footed challenge in the first instance then take aim at an opponent's face is really beyond me.
Dont know how the M.E.N are dishing out punishments and guilty verdicts on players before the authorities have even had a chance to.
Adebayor, Adebayor-or-or --
Cost less than Berbatov but scores a lot more.
Whatever decision is reached by the FA it has to be consistent and based on precedent. So for the celebrations both RVP and EA get a £5k fine based on the Neville precedent. If they also want to look retrospectively at three bad challenges, then they must equally consider EA, RVP and Bendter's challenges. And finally, the violence and racist behaviour of a section of Arsenal fans needs to be punished accordingly.
What Ade did was worthy of a yellow card and he got one,so no reason for the FA to get involved. They didn't take further action against the Derby or WHU players who did exactly the same thing.
Great celebration & an unlucky follow through with your foot (?). Both RVP & supporters got what they deserved for there 90 abusive treatment of City's MOTM !!!
Will the FA take into account the abuse Ade has to endure all match? I doubt it.
Will the FA charge Van Persie with the two tooted challenge leading to the incident, or the abuse he hurled at the South Stand when he scored? Probably not.
Will Arsenal be charged over the way in which their fans reacted to the goal celebration? No chance.
Yet another witch hunt and trial by media. Adebayor is as good as suspended before any formal charges are made.
the 'celebration' was seen and the appropriate punishment of a booking given, end of story. the stampings are open to more debate. i expect a 3 game ban unfortunately. if no ade, tevez, RSC, robinho, ireland then i wud play this team:
4-4-2
same gk and defence
then
Zabaletta de Jong (holding) Barry (holding, covering for Petrov)Petrov (chance to stake claim)
SWP Bellamy (both defending from the front)
I made a comment yesterday how at the end of the game i saw them both Ade & VP shake hands & pat each other on the back, if you go to the city website there is an article by MH titled NO MALLICE FROM ADE & it shows this picture, what annoys me that this has NOT been shown on the tv or the papers ! CFL BELEIVE.
So what happens when an away team celebrates in front of a jam packed capacity stadium full of home fans? Why isn't that incitement to causing violence? Maybe we should have a 2m x 2m square box for all players to celebrate their goals so as not to upset any fan from the opposing team. How mad is that. This is football, and full of passion. Take that out of the game and we might as well burn our season cards and go home to watch Strictly Come Dancing. If the Gunners fans were going nuits, then surely it is them who should get rounded up by the police/security.
Didnt something click in his brain telling him it was wrong during the 10 seconds its taken him to run the full length of the pitch?. Ban, yes, length of ban to be decided. Nasty challenge on poor RVP's face, ban, yes, length of ban to be decided. It aint stacking up all that well is it.
Lets hope the same challenges are put in on Sunday
Maybe he just got confused in all the emotions of scoring and thought he still played for the gunners hence his sprinting all the way to the away end to 'celebrate' with the traveling masses!!!
its a long shot but might be worth a punt lol
Henry's celebration went unpunished, Gary Neville's in front of the Liverpool fans only seemed to warrant a fine (and he hadn't even scored had he?)
But I have no doubt Ade will miss games and we will miss him - and we will be stitched up again just like SWP's pathetic ban after a literally knee-jerk reaction on Delap's appalling kicking.
Watmore will merely say it's time to stamp on (sorry!) celebrations of this kind, especially in the light of the West Ham game - which should never have been allowed to go ahead normally in any case - and didn't that celebration go unpunished too?
SAY something, City!
Also, can anyone explain Fabregas wrestling De Jong to the ground, nearly breaking Shay Given's neck - after Shay had collected the ball? I was right in front of it and I'm thinking I might have imagined it now.
Hey ho.
I thought the principle had been established last season in the cases of Rooney and Ronaldo that the punishment for a deliberate kick at a prone opponent was "a quiet word" from the referee.
This is the opportunity they've (the powers that be) been waiting for to bring City down a peg or two,
they just don't want to to finish in the top 4.
Manu will have the book thrown at him and will be made an exaple of, any provocation he had will not be taken in to consideration and he will receive the maximum punishment, probably a 5 game ban.
It has completetly overshadowed a marvellous result against one of our top 4 rivals, Manu has been on fire and would almost certainly have scored against the red big eds!
Unbelievably we now have a striking crisis after being slagged by all and sundry that we had too many at the club!!
i just cant take it that city, the fans, the press, the tv, an every other person is just on about ade ????????? why is no one saying anything about rvp tackle an the swearing he did after he scored while running to the city fans ???? the fa need to charge all involved not just ade, also why is it that fans can sing racist songs and think its ok??? i wonder if any fan has complained????????????
there are allsorts of different views on this, and i can see people's points of view from both sides.
In my honest opinion, i really don't see how they can ban him for the goal celebration, as these celebrations go on all the time yet there are never any more severe punishments than a yellow card, and correctly so.
The only reason this is in the spotlight so much is because of the reaction of the Arsenal fans. If they didn't react in that way, do you really think this would be an issue? NO WAY.
Slightly worried with some posts, I thought I was on manures site with the denial that was going on. In no way can we condone Adebayors actions, his foul was a foul, If he has to be punished so be it.
Regarding his goal celebration , it was sure to incite the Arsenal crowd, I think Mr Hughes Should take time out ,to explain to his players what is expected. Defending such actions will only alienate us. Well done to the stewards, security and police. Lets not be blinkered like those from the swamp. Lets maintain our standards, we are not rags!
Ok, the stamping incident was wrong. Though can we be sure that it was intentional? Looked like Ade was trying to keep his balance to some degree. But maybe there was a bit of malice in it. The celebration to the Arsenal fans does definitely not deserve a ban. Surely any player has the right to celebrate how and where he wants on the pitch. If the fans don't like it then tough!
PUNISH him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was a time when you expected celebrations in front of the oppsoing fans when a player you dished out abuse to all game, stuck one up ya!
I remember being in the away end at Derby, when Peter Shilton got abuse off the fans all the way through the game.
And boy did he rub it in when Derby then went on and whacked "6" past a lame Man City side.
But it was something the fans accepted was likely to come back and haunt you when you slaugthered an opposition player.
Mimmicking munching Mars Bars became for a short while a trademark of Gazza when he scored.
But it seems nowadays that all and sundry seem to think it is acceptable to turn into a baying mob turning their aggression on a player and hurling missiles when they get their medicine hurled back at them.
If you can't take it.....don't dish it out!!!
And behave like human beings....not animals!!!
Get him banned for 6 games
