Manchester City

City 4 Arsenal 2: Ratings

GIVEN: Three great, and crucial saves in the second half as Arsenal came storming back 7

RICHARDS: Deserved to be awarded the first goal for a great header, and super play to set up second 8

TOURE: Inspirational stuff, tackling and heading everything, and urging teammates to greater heights 8

LESCOTT: Solid and powerful in defence, probably his best game yet in a blue shirt 8

BRIDGE: His surging runs from deep had Gunners on back foot from time to time, and he defended well 7

WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: Not at the races first half, but scored one and helped create two in second half 8

IRELAND: Had a great first half chance to double the lead, but curiously looked a little jaded 6

DE JONG: Hard-working and smart, but began to be swamped in second half 7

BARRY: Given greater rein by de Jong’s inclusion, and his set-piece delivery provided first goal 8

BELLAMY: Worked up and down, scored and ran Arsenal ragged in the second half 9

ADEBAYOR: Lone battle for him up front, but he was simply magnificent in that role 8

Substitutes

PETROV (for Ireland 73): played his part in City’s terrific finishing surge 7

Not used: Taylor, Onuoha, Zabaleta, Sylvinho, Vidal, Weiss

ARSENAL: Almunia, Sagna (Eboue 75), Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy, Denilson (Rosicky 52), Song (Eduardo 75), Fabregas, Diaby, van Persie, Bendtner

Thought SWP was poor in the 1st half but his 2nd half was the instrumental to the final result. Bellamy also was quiet in the 1st and missed a sitter that allowed Arsenal to get it to 1-1. Barry as usual was class but i would give the M-o-M to SWP just on his 2nd half (and overlook his 1st).

Adebayor has proved to be a stunning purchase, but although he does terrific work for the team both in attack and in defense (look how many times he was on the goal line defending today), his 'star' status does tend to overshadow the equally brilliant work that Craig Bellamy produces. That's why I agree with your rating for Bellamy just shading Adebayor, especially as Ade let himself down a bit with the (alleged) stamp on Van Persie and the 'over-celebration' of his goal in front of the admittedly over-sensitive and somewhat 'bitter' visiting fans!

funny old game. I was just thinking that I hadn't heard bellamys name nore than once the whole second half and then he scores???
We have TWO players that just don't look comfortable on the ball. Micah and One Foot Wayne. Time to give them both a rest. Nedum and Silvinho next week please.
oh, and lets pray that Rob Stiles isn't the ref!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic defending by Ade all game.

Bring em all on!!!

Great result, great performance overall & fantastic atmosphere in the ground.
We all know there is room for improvement, but lets celebrate a tremendous win against a very good Arsenal team.

Onwards to the swamp!!

SO SO PROUD, I THOUGHT WE MAY DO WELL TODAY, BUT THIS WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT. IF ARSENAL WOULD HAVE HAD 99% OF POSSESION AND WE NICKED A GOAL IN THE LAST MINUTE TO WIN , I WOULD HAVE BEEN CHUFFED TO BITS WITH THE WIN. BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. WE GAVE AS GOOD AS WE GOT AND MORE AT TIMES AND STILL WON WELL IN THE END. IF WE CONTINUE PLAYING LIKE THIS, A TOP SIX PLACE IS THE LEAST WE WILL GET THIS SEASON. WELL DONE TO MARK AND THE BOYS.
CTID,

4-2 against one of the top 4 without 2 of our best players and RSC still unavailable. Thought today that the character when arsenal equalised was the most impressive thing. A year ago we would have probably gone onto lose. Bit worried about Ireland so far this season (I know it's early days) but I wonder if he's overdone this training all summer business. Maybe should have had at least a couple of weeks just resting up. All in all 4 wins out of 4 you can't get better than that.

Nigel my man of the match. Worn out after that!

Going forward I can see Ireland and Sweep being squad players. Fabregas was superb and we struggled to keep up with him, however, great win, Bellamy and Barry superb, Ade lead the line well but wish he hadnt done his lap of honour and hope the FA dont use it as an excuse to stick the boot in, Richards looks like a new player.
Early days but good progress.

De Jong was fantastic today, another player who is NOT given credit for what he does. CFL BELEIVE.

Yeh id give de jong man of the match took lots of pressure away from the defense, ireland should of played a more attacking role like lampard.

Bellamy was a 12 at least.

Well done Craig Bellamy. You deserve this mark. The second half played into your hands, you are an asset to City. Who needs Robinho? Over the Blue Moon.

I must hold my hand up and even eat some humble pie today, but here goes......I thought Bellamy was outstanding today, he got back to help Wayne Bridge out when needed in defence, harried and chased Arsenal players whenever they went anywhere near him in midfield, and then when MH brought on Martin Petrov and told "Bellers" to go up top with Adebayor, he scored the second goal and we as a team looked far more threatening on the counter attack (scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes!). I've been one of the critics of Bellamy when we bought him in January, but I must admit I was wrong to think so negatively of him, whenever he's played he's given 100% and appears to becoming even more dangerous the more he plays for the team and gels with them as time goes on.
Bellamy and Nigel De Jong were my joint men of the match today.
What a great match and atmosphere, I'm so chuffed I renewed my season card and feel privileged to be watching what feels like a "great" City team in the making!

Adebayor was immense today in defense and attack! A bit dissapointed with Stevies reaction to being subbed by storming off down the tunnel then us scoring two minutes later. Well done MH for your tactical nous today, and everyone should realise this!

jongy was top class today and we wouldve been 4 down in first half as he held them at bay single handed at times. ireland had a mare and swp wasnt much better til last 15mins....onwards n upwards

fantastic today. What has happened to Ireland! He needs a rest, at the moment he is only getting picked on the back of last year cause this year he looks lost up some hill in Glossop. He was behind the patteren of play and should have been replaced at half time. Petrov looked good as he has everytime hes been given a chance. Onwards and Upwards.

Nigel De Jong

Outstanding. He is relatively anonymous until we play quality teams like today or liverpool away last season when he takes centre stage. lets hope he steps up to the plate next week.
