Alex Ellis chose "Supersonic" and "Club Foot" as two of his three tracks to entertain an Eastlands' full house. The first was the perfect sub-title for an exhilarating first half, the second a apt slogan for the last 20 minutes.
For the first 45 minutes, the £80m strikeforce of Robinho, Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor, backed up by the darting thrusts of Shaun Wright-Phillips and the smooth perception of Stevie Ireland, produced some fantasy football.
Adebayor strike
This was what City fans had been waiting for all summer, and a sell-out crowd that had slavered with anticipation was soon being transported to the heights of delight.
Wolves were bemused and bedraggled by the slick, exciting football which flowed from the men in sky-blue, and a goal feast looked to be on the cards.
Emmanuel Adebayor continued to cement his affinity with the Blues' fans, desperate for a new goal-scoring hero, by crashing them ahead on 17 minutes.
And the fact that the goal was set up by a sublime touch from Carlos Tevez, making his first start for the club, only enhanced the sense of glee.
Tevez has already begun to win the hearts of the City faithful, not least because of his defection from United.
His willingness to chase every lost cause, fight for every scrap of possession and to shirk no responsibility, is a vote-winner with any set of football fans. Throw in the touches of quality of which Tevez is capable, and you have instant hero material.
Yet this was Tevez below his best, still getting over the disruption to the vital work of pre-season brought about by his heel injury, and recuperating from a dizzying 65 minutes of hard labour in the burdensome heat of Barcelona.
Yet we saw enough to suggest that, with Robinho's occasional brilliance, City have a front three who could yet rip up the Premier League hierarchy.
Still, chances came and went, Mick McCarthy's side clung on like a drowning dog, and the longer the game went on, the more the ghosts of City's past began to cast their shadows over the sun-drenched Eastlands stadium.
Robinho and Tevez both spurned chances and Wright-Phillips - who out-shone his illustrious colleagues with a vintage first-half display - had a sound penalty appeal turned down.
But five minutes before the break came the first warning of what can happen to a team which fails to convert its chances when it is so much on top.
The City centre-back pairing of Kolo Toure and Richard Dunne, both immense in Barcelona and Blackburn, melted away before the advancing Matthew Jarvis, and it was left to Shay Given to come up with a stunning acrobatic save.
The City chances continued to arrive after the break. Birthday-boy Ireland, celebrating the 23rd anniversary of his arrival from the planet Krypton, proved he does have mortal traits with a horribly hashed finish.
Then Adebayor hit the side netting after racing on to Ireland's pass and rounding the keeper, and Robinho had edged offside before knocking in Wright-Phillips' cross.
It gave Wolves hope and Andrew Keogh hit the bar, as the plucky visitors re-doubled their efforts.
The big difference between this new-look City and the "typical" old City was that this one has the mental strength to tough it out. The City of last season would have drawn or possibly lost this match.
City potential
The age-old mantra is that teams who succeed, in any league, are those which win when they do not play well.
To suggest City did not play well would be harsh in the extreme - at times their football was exquisite.
But they did sometimes sacrifice solidity and organisation on the altar of entertainment, and as the game wore on looked more and more disjointed as they were forced onto the defensive.
The Blues were a football version of Mike Tyson at times - ferocious on the attack, but nervy and uncertain at times when pushed onto the back-foot. Like Tyson, they needed a knock-out punch, but it didn't come and they were left to cling on for a points win.
But the bare fact is that City have played two league games - not played to their full potential - have six points in the bag and have strengthened their defence with Joleon Lescott.
As starts to the season go, it does not get much better.
What is your verdict? Have your say.

Excellent start to the season though and I hope/expect two more wins this week - the game against palace is crucial to our season.

The point being that for 40 minutes we were great and could have been 4-0 up, and even in the second half when weren't at our best we created 4 chances that could have and should have been scored, and this is a group of players that have played less than a handful of games together.
wow, i'm drooling at the thoughts of what's to come.

We're agreed there. This team is still at an embryonic stage in its development. Once we really gel (and start putting our chances away!!!) the rest of the premiership will be quaking in their boots.

As for the 2nd half, too many people are criticising City and not praising Mick McCarthy. His decision to bring Doyle on for Milijas changed the game. In the first half, we had all the time in the world to pass amongst the back for and wait for an opening to feed the ball into midfield. So they changed it, went 2 up top, and pressed our back 4. As a result of this, we were forced to play a more direct game, and we lost the calm, assured approach of the 1st half. This was mainly due to good tactics by Wolves. The pleasing thing was that we once again kept the opposition out when our backs were to the wall. We are showing all the qualities that a good team should have. Things are looking good.

The attendance was 47,287 and the total capacity for the stadium is 47.726 (official).
There were several hospitality seats available and several Executive Boxes remained empty.
Poor reporting, yet again, from the MEN.

The failure to convert chances is irrelevant for this particular fixture as long as the three points are secured.
If it costs us in the next game then have a moan, but how can anybody be anything but positive now?
A new side, some 'exquisite football', six points from two, and what a promise of things to come attacking wise!
Foamers start learning to enjoy success which we will be experiencing on a regular basis!

You do realise that it was Hughes' tactics/formation last season which brought out the best in Ireland don't you?!
Stevie's just had to learn to be a bit more disciplined in the first few games, similar to how lampard has had to redefine his game for england under capello.

As most have said, first half was a pleasure to watch. Second half became more jittery as Wolves changed things around. It could have worked for them, but didn't. Let's move on now. Two clean sheets and full points from the first 2 games is a great base to build on.
The whole of Saturdays experience had a much more professional feel to it. The new support staff uniform looks good!
Adebayor reminds me of a mix of Anelka and Goater - bound to be a hero this season.
Tevez did his usual and could have been an instant hero with the header.
Barry was solid
Toure & Dunne partnership - still finding their feet.
Ireland - took his birthday present back after that miss (kidding, still love you, Stevie)
Now, the only downside for my afternoon.
Micah, Micah, Micah.
Are you still suffering with swine flu? Where do you keep disappering to?
You had one gold-plated chance to prove your forward foraging runs are worthwhile and you bottled it. Shape up. I hear Pablo may be given a run soon.
Another 3 points on Sunday and then the real test against Arsenal.

My verdict,
Thoroughly enjoyed the game in most parts and we deserved to win,my only two Gripes are Micah Richards and the Stadium Catering, both Shocking and one of these needs to sort his SWEEDE out fast or start warming the bench, the other, well it can only be one thing which franchise and although it's not the end of the world (because we don't need the money)it amazes me how much revenue is lost because of the catering facilities or LACK OF IT,how the hell are three staff supposed to serve hundreds of fans in fifteen minutes for Christ sake.
Maybe an on line petition on the clubs official site could be an idea,i don't' no.
Someone out there must have an idea, because it needs sorting and quick.

Your post is absolute garbage. People like you just have to find something negative to say. The fact is it WAS a full house on Saturday because the official capacity at present is 47,300. Anyway, carry on scraping around in the bottom of the barrel and I'm sure you'll find something else to moan about.
