Manchester City

Everton see Jo potential

Jo
CITY'S Brazilian striker Jo is likely to be involved in Everton's first pre-season friendly at Bury on Friday.

The former CSKA Moscow striker, who spent five months on loan at Goodison Park from City last season, is with the Toffees at their Scottish training camp as the final points of another loan deal are completed.

And a one-year loan arrangement will delight Everton assistant boss Steve Round, who was hugely impressed with the £18million forward while working with him last term.

Everton revealed on Tuesday that they are in talks with City about re-signing the 22-year-old, and the player was allowed to travel to Scotland with Everton.

Round said: "I am very much hoping a deal can be put in place. I think we saw last season what he is capable of.

"Last season, the manager (David Moyes) was very keen on Jo and perhaps tried to sign him but was pipped at the post by City."

Last season's loan stint at Goodison saw Jo rejuvenated after a frustrating spell at Eastlands, scoring five goals but being cup-tied for the FA Cup final.

Round said: "He came in as a young player to Manchester and struggled at first.

"The Premier League is different to anything else anywhere in the world. But he found his feet with us, came through and got us some goals. He's certainly a player we would like to have in our squad and firing.

"It's up to the club to try and finalise a deal. Hopefully that will come off and we'll have a very, very good player in our squad."

Do you think City should have given Jo more of a chance? Have your say.

Everton are doing well out of us. We pay 18mil for a striker they want and they end up getting him for the cost of a loan. All of the benefits, few of the risks. Good business by Moyes. I can't believe this guy won't come good. I hope he does and that we eventually get the best out of him - probably in the 2010-11 season.

i think its win win for city this situation!!!

lets be honest jo was never a mark hughes signing and hes just been pushed further and further down the pecking order, this way he gets a full seasons premiership, europa league and domestic cup experience!!!

if he struggles this year at everton it wont be at our expense, if knuckles down and proves what he can do he can come back next year!!! hes still very young!!!

I hope that he has a good season and learns what the PL is all about, if he is to make it he needs to improve on a lot of levels though.

Hughes needs to get tough with moyes and use Jo as bait for Lescott.
Everton are extracting the urine out of us[to put it politely] in getting Jo on a years loan, whilst over inflating the price on Lescot.

I'm happy to let him go on loan to them again but surely we've done it to keep them sweet if we do pursue lescott (if/when this terry pursuit finally ends this sumemr)...

No loan without Lescott as part of the deal. When since have we become a charitable foundation for Everton?

until the prospective incoming signings of Tevez and ETO'O have become a reality, I would have thought no striker should leave - given the fitness record of Boj, RSC and Bellamy and the departure already of Sturridge -
but what do I know?

I'm just a musician

Lets hope after 1 and a half seasons playing first team he might get used to the premierleague and come back to city to play shexxxy football.

my overiding memory ov jo was a game last season at home (may have been the forest game)we had three players racing towards the goal and jo turned and ran to the sideline!!how can you get involved in a goalscoring chance from there i don`t know.

Let him go to a Club who values him - he's just ayoung kid - the fee City paid was not his fault!

Maybe another year developing in the Prem and we could save a bunch of money next summer?

Whats the risk?

Big Phil

Does that mean we are close to bringing in a striker please!

well buy him then! why are we loaning when we want Lescott!?

If he's going to learn about Premiership football I'd rather he did it playing for someone else. If he turns out to be any good then that'll be ggreat for City. if he doesn't, then it's time to say bye-bye. Much better than chucking him out now at a massive loss and then seeing him turn into a world beater.

We can all have a guess why Jo has been loaned to Everton. We will not know unless the player/clubs comes out with the details involved. I for one guess (and hope) it will be for Lescott to come to us.

I have seen too little of Jo to know how good he is. He is talented and made an impact in the Russian League at a very young age. When he was signed by City (not by Hughes for that matter) he came right from the Russian League into pre-season, only to leave for Brasil to play in the Olympics. After that he played some games for City and didn't impress.
We all know not every foreign player succeed in their 1st season with the new club. In fact a few do. Different country, food, habits, lifestyle, club, teamplayers, etc. Not as easy as it looks. Some gel quicker than others. I thought Jo was already doing better with Everton the last few months, although I was still not overly impressed. Jo needs to play football to intergrade. But as he's young enough and still has good value in the transfermarket, it seems sence to loan him out. If that is to either Everton or any other PL-team, it doesn't really matter.

It's too early to judge Jo. After this year we can do so. I hope for Jo he performs very well. City will gain either way, unless Jo scores 20plus goals to help Everton finish 4th and us 5th. How would that go in the betting ...

unless we get Lescott this is unbelievable for a team who could rival us for 5th place...........

thought MH was going to bring in players before he sells, Jo, vassel, Evans, Benjani, Sturridge, Caciedo, Bellamy, if these are all on there way, and i have not included Bojinov, i realy hope MH has got some forwards to bring in.

Here we go agian Mr gary cook TYPICAL CITY we assist a very close rival team by supplying them with a striker whilst you seem to be dilly dallying over our own (supposed) done deals i for one am getting really peed off with this ......City are lining up .....city are interested in......city make offer for.....yes i know a lot is just paper talk but cook and hughes have both said that top deals will be done very early I rate RSC but i dont call it a top deal And this Tevez saga is looking more and more like we are going to end up with egg on our faces AGIAN even allowing for this third party ownership stuff if he is to sign it should be done by now SOME POSITIVE MOVEMENT PLEASE

im pleased that jo will get some more experience with everton, can only be good for him and for city in the longrun. Im just becoming a bit disallusioned at the lack of activity in the transfer market....im gobsmacked we have no new defenders and the fact that tevez has not signed yet, i am a bit impstient but we need players to be able to come in a get as much playing time with each other before the season starts. I dont think we will get jt...if you think about it logically....its the world cup next year and if he comes to city and has a bad time then he may lose his captaincy and even his place. I think we will sign tevez, lucio, lescott and another striker...quite who is anyones guess but we need someone whon is going to hit at least 20 goals...

I was glad to hear he would be spending the 2nd half of last season in the blue half of the 'Pool, but a bit disappointed to learn he won't we won't see him playing for us for another year. I suppose he still has alot to learn but can't help predicting though that he will be top scorer for Everton this season.
Either way though, the owners are of course thinking long term and this is obviously in keeping with that attidue, Jo will be a TOP player....eventually
