Maicon agent expects Madrid move

CITY will have to fight off Real Madrid if they are to sign Inter Milan right-back Maicon.

The Brazilian's agent expects the Spanish giants to launch a transfer "offensive."

The 27-year-old was a key figure as Jose Mourinho's Inter clinched a fourth straight Serie A title last term and shone at the Confederations Cup with Brazil this month, but could be on his way out of the San Siro after demanding a pay increase.

The Blues are the only club to have made an offer for Maicon, who has also been linked with Chelsea, but his agent believes Madrid - who have spent over £170m already this summer - could move soon.

"I think that Maicon will be the cherry on the Real Madrid cake," said Antonio Caliendo.

Offensive

"At the moment there's nothing but I believe the situation is destined to change.

"After having bought Karim Benzema, now Real are focusing on Franck Ribery and Xabi Alonso, but then they will turn to Maicon.

"I have already said it and I repeat it - I'm expecting an offensive from them to try to buy him because he is the best in the world in his position.

"There's margin to manoeuvre with Inter. If the amount that will come to Inter will be the right one, everything could be finalised very soon."

Maicon is under contract with the Nerazzurri until June 2013.

Meanwhile, reports suggest City are interested in a £6million bid for Bayern Munich's Brazilian centre-back Lucio

Would this be the same Maicon who just last week said he was very happy in Milan and intended to see out his contract there?

whats wrong with the RBs we've already got? Zab showed last season that he is a top quality player, both at CM and RB. Micah needs to get his head out of the clouds, but definitely is a great prospect, definitely one for the future. Also Ned can play RB, although he is much better played in the centre. seems like another feeble effort by a player's agent to big them up and hopefully attract a massive offer from city. having said that he would still be a brilliant signing, but i'd rather see MH bring in a new LB, bridge is not up to scratch.

I did mention Lucio last week as a much better proposition than Toure. Lets see but good to see us being linked with real quality.

City stated clearly last week that they had not bid for him, in fairness that may have changed since last week but who knows. If his agent is dreaming of real coming in for him then maybe the bid by City was contained in the same dream. Mr Caliendo is delusional if he sees his client as `the cherry` in real`s cake. Not disputing he is a good player and I would be glad to see him at our club, but some of these agents are plain `looney tunes` and I reckon this bloke fits that category. Before Maicon seeks a new club he should get fitted with an agent that operates in reality instead of the fantasy world this looney lives in.

I've read that Lucio is unhappy at being kept out of the Bayern side by, amongst others, Daniel van Buyten. It makes a lot more sense to me for City to make a bid for DvB rather than Lucio. Lucio's good, but Buyten's better.

Are we really that bothered when we have Zabaletta who is a class act and Richards (who should be a class act) ??

Hughes should forget about Terry and get Upson and Lescott in to strengthen our back line - we should also make sure that we get Tevez - why has he not signed yet ??? that is most concerning thing given that he is a free agent - it would surprise me if he signs for chelski and is then effectively that most hated man in manchester

Apparently the Tevez deal is taking its time because of the 3rd party ownership. Lets just sit tight and hope for the best! :-)

Right back is not our worse position and should Micah return to form he and Zab will be able to cover that position.Getting a centre back of quality may prove difficult ,getting one not towards their career end even more elusive,Both Lucio and van Boyten are 31.Bayern have indicated that Lucio can go.Its Elano to take the corner and Lucio has headed home Brazil not City.Let`s wait and see.I would be happy with either Lucio or Danny.

Have we 'Hit the ground running yet'? in the words of Mark Hughes.
I think Barry and Santa Cruz were done deals long before the window opened.

Van Buyten, now theres a player we should have kept hold of. Class.
I think we could have had him for something daft like 1.5M when KK was manager.
Not to have made the money available was a mistake, or perhaps he didn't want to stay at City, I don't know the full story.

Lucio has had a poor season in the Bundesliga, as has van Buyten.City should avoid both and go for Upson and Lescott or maybe even Carvalho ?

This is just paper talk. Mark Hughes is not an idiot and knows that we don't need a new right back. I'm quite sure that he is putting his time and effort into securing a class centre back for the team, instead of chasing expensive players that we don't even need.

I wasnt that impressed with Maicon in the Confederations Cup,he got forward well enough but his crosses were very poor at times and given the right backs weve got i dont think he,d improve us.I dont think we,ve bid for him, but if we have we are spending just for the sake of it and i dont want City to become another Chelsea, i want City to have morals.

I Think its his agent who is trying to sell the player! He's trying to get his part out of it, offering the player to real madrid and city! We should concentrate on good Center Halfs not right backs! Lucio is at 31 too old for me. Why not aim for terry? who can give us a few more years service or Paulo Alves from Fc Porto or even Luisao from Benfica they are both good Defenders and Younger.

It hardly sounds like he fancies us, and talk about delusions of grandeur! I don't fancy this fella at all.

Agree with Raziola that we should aim for the likes of Lescott and Upson, or if that doesn't come off, maybe lower our sights and go for Ferdinand & Vidic.

Barnham Blue, if you watch German football on a regular basis, you would know Lucio is a far better option than Van Buyten. Van Buyten wasn't a regular in the Bayern-side and you didn't need to be a great coach to see that one. Forget about Van Buyten, he's not a great player, he's no better than Dunne, and he played well for us in a team that had mediocre all through it. How many years ago ...?
