CITY are in pursuit of FOUR more signings - but have dismissed outlandish claims which link them with every megastar in the universe.
The Blues have not wavered from the transfer plan they established in spring, and are already a third of the way to their target after capturing Roque Santa Cruz and Gareth Barry.
The club is also cautiously optimistic of adding Carlos Tevez to the tally next week, although it appears he is being dangled in front of other clubs by Kia Joorabchain, who still owns the player.
M.E.N. Sport understands the other three targets are defenders Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure, and - though they are playing it cool on their final quarry - Samuel Eto'o.
A City source said: "We are being linked with everyone going, as if we are trying to sweep up every player out there - it is mostly fiction.
"We had a plan at the start of the summer, and we are sticking to that plan."
Stars
That tallies with chairman Khalddon al Mubarak's statement last week that the Blues were in the market for five or six signings.
It appears that talk linking the Blues, who have also added back-up keeper Stuart Taylor, with Inter Milan right-back Maicon is unfounded.
One report claimed City would offer his fellow Brazilian Elano as part of an exchange deal, but that is wide of the mark - although the midfielder does appear to want a move to Italy and would be allowed to go if the offer was right.
While the pursuit of major stars continues, the Blues showed their ongoing commitment to home-grown talent by handing 19-year-old reserve striker Donal McDermott a two-year contract extension.
The Dubliner, a member of the 2007 FA Youth Cup- winning team, said: "Life is exciting here and I'm sure it will be more so. The reserves under Glyn Hodges feels like you're part of the senior set-up - when they went to Schalke and Santander last season, we went as well. You feel part of unbelievable times here."

If you cared to read the story you will find there is new reporting in there. Please refrain from using the word 'We' when refering to City. You are clearly a southern rag.

There has been comment & speculation about how the influx of players will affect the Academy. Some posters suggesting that Jim Cassell may actually leave. I certainly hope he does'nt and giving a contract extension to young McDermott emphasises that if the kids are good enough they will get a game. When the lads won the Youth Cup there was another huge central defender in the team, Boyata ( I think ). Whats happened to him cos he looked bigger than either Micah or Nedum. Some of the Academy youngsters have been released, but that's par for the course every year and happens at every club.
Richards & Onuoha have played well for the U 21s, maybe not against top quality strikers, but they do seem to compliment each other. Johnson appears to be ready for the new season and we know that Superman will be.
This season will definately be a big challenge to the 'home grown' lads, but if they are good enough & do the business on the pitch, I'm sure they will get a game.
City has always been a club willing to give young lads a chance. Sometimes though, players have been thrown in out of necessity because there has been no choice. Now we have a chance to purchase quality. This will enable the kids to train and develop in an environment of excellence!
Anyway, next few days/weeks are going to be very interesting and the kids should be lining up to be part of it!!

What does concern me is the lack of depth in the middle of the park, we will have the following..... M.Petrov, S.W.P, S.Ireland, G.Barry, M.Johnson, Elano,Kompany & N.DeJong and then my list begins to dry up.I know that i have missed a few fringe players off this list.....
I still believe we are in desparate need of an influential play maker especially if Elano does leave. Kompany may very well yet be used as a Central Defender ..... the cupboard is bare 2 more Midfielders please
I just find it mind bogglingly stupifying that we are currently in possesion of.... R.S.C, Bellemy, Robinho, Bojinov, Benjani, Caicado, Jo, Evans and then possibly Tevez and E'tto. Yes we will undoubtedly sell some of these lads off... but to who ? who can afford their wages and fees. If we do get Tevez and E'to, i would have RSC Robbie and Caicado as my other forwards.

One example is Lescott. Everton are without Jagielka till November. I can't see them selling Lescott unless we're prepared to pay mega bucks; say £25 million or even more. The only counter to that is that Dunne or Richards might go the other way. Dunne, I think, is surplus to requirements since he's clearly not top 4 class( but I'd rather sell him to Sunderland) but we should hang on to Richards to see whether last season was a blip. Heiko Westermann of Schalke is an alternative to Lescott or Toure and a better one. A fantastic German international. Terrific technique with both feet and a colossus in the air. He's on a long contract and they certainly don't want to sell but money might talk. We need to keep Everton 'honest' by signalling clearly that there are other fish in the sea. Toure may come loose with the Vermaelan signing, it's true. On the other hand Gallas might be sold in which case Wenger will hang on to Toure.
As for Eto'o, I suspect Hughes won't care if he doesn't come; he's not really a Hughes type player. The manager still seems to me not to have grasped the scale of ambition of ADUG and the sort of players required to realise that ambition.
My main concern for next season though is our lack of width. The way things are going Petrov and Sweep will struggle for a first team place and our full backs don't convince going forward. Bridge can't beat a man so crosses from deep positions which are easy for defenders to deal with. His right foot exists for standing up only. Richards looks clueless when he gets in a good position up the field and takes an age to get back in position when we lose the ball. Zabaleta, on the other hand, works hard and is a tough tackler but doesn't have good enough technique to put in consistently quality balls across the box.
Bottom line unless we get quality ball from wide positions we won't get the best out of RSC and Tevez ( assuming the latter comes). I'm really disappointed that we aren't in for Maicon and Andre Santos. We need players of that technical ability if we're to challenge the top 4. Why should we wait another season to have a real go for the Champion's League? Seize the day Hughes.
