Roque Santa Cruz's arrival from Blackburn Rovers earlier this week could usher Brazilian Jo towards the Blues revolving door for a second time.
The player who cost City around £19m from CSKA Moscow less than 12 months ago could well be deemed surplus to requirements for the coming season too.
After making 13 starts for City during which time he briefly shone scoring three goals, Jo was loaned out to Everton for the second part of the campaign.
He managed a dozen appearances scoring five times for David Moyes' side and generally impressed with his attitude but not enough for the cash-strapped Toffees to make a permanent bid for his services.
Battling
With Santa Cruz ready to lead the Blues attack and Craig Bellamy and possibly Carlos Tevez battling to be the second hitman, it appears that Jo's chances will be limited and the Blues may well listen with a favourable ear to any clubs who wish to borrow a player who has been capped three times by Brazil.
The Blues, as is the norm, would require a loan fee but would see a loan deal as a way of getting more experience into the 22-year-old, who has signed a four-year contract but who has found the Premier League physically demanding.
Everton may yet come back for another 12 months of the player and City could use Jo to hammer out a deal for defender Joleon Lescott. Fulham are the other Premier League club in the hunt, though there could also be interest from Spain.
While Jo's immediate future is up in the air, his international team-mate Robinho has urged boss Mark Hughes not to give up on his pursuit of Cameroon superstar Samuel Eto'o.
The Blues' leading marksman, who cost City's new owners a British record £32.5m in the final hours of last season's summer transfer window, believes Eto'o could make the Blues almost unbeatable.
"A player like Santa Cruz is more than welcome and I've heard a deal for Carlos will be sorted very soon," claimed Robinho, who has yet to begin his summer's rest after the World Cup qualifiers and the Confederation Cup in South Africa. Brazil meet the hosts in that contest this evening.
"That would be great because Tevez is a world-class talent and I would be happy to play alongside him. It is very good to know that my club is going for top-quality players like these. Now I hope we can get Eto'o as well."
No matter who now comes through the door before the season starts at Blackburn in August, the Blues look like they will be parting company with several of the other strikers that were on call last season.
Hughes has already turned down a bid of a little more than £1m for 20-year-old Wales international Ched Evans from Championship hopefuls Sheffield United but may yet be tempted to sell if anyone doubled that amount.
Expires
Youngster Daniel Sturridge has thrown in his lot with Chelsea for a fee that will be decided by a tribunal, while former England international Darius Vassell will not be offered a new deal when his current four year contract expires next week and is interesting Hull City.
Hughes is also likely to listen to offers for experienced Zimbabwe international Benjani, who has struggled with injury since making the switch from Portsmouth 18 months ago.
Less clear is the long-term future of Felipe Caicedo whose half-a-dozen goals last season at least showed he was heading in the correct direction after a difficult introduction following his move from Swiss side Basle for a little more than £5m.
Sporting Lisbon have been on the 20-year-old Ecuadorian international's trail and others in the Premier League might be willing to take a punt on a player who started 10 times in league and cup matches for Hughes last season. Caicedo himself is relaxed about his situation at City though he knows he is likely to be fourth choice striker at best next season.
Meanwhile, the Blues' £15m pursuit of England defender Lescott, which started in the New Year, is likely to be met with a rebuff as the Toffees hold out for more.
They will argue that Glenn Johnson's switch from Portsmouth to Liverpool for £17m sets the bar in terms of Lescott's value and are likely to hold out for a similar amount for a player who can operate as a central defender and a left back.
Lescott is understood to be aware of City's interest though he neither confirmed nor denied it when he was asked about the subject during his spell on England duty earlier this month.
The Blues are also keen to clinch a deal for experienced Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure from Arsenal, though he would miss a chunk of the season during the African Cup of Nations.
What do you think? Have your say.

Between Boj and RSC we should be able to manage a season. Eto'o would be a massive plus on the striker front.
Tevez in to augment the attacking midfield bit.
Defensive midfield is sound. We can flip Kompany back to Centre back if required, but I'd like to see a bit of defensive stiffening. Is Daniel van Buyten available? Or one of those class on the ball Italians?
Ooh! So looking forward to the new season.

Joe is a very important part of the clubs future and so we are investing in his future by getting him premiership experience at another, less well off club. Its exactly what we should be doing.
Exactly what part of this dont you understand?

25/06/2009 at 09:13 - Well said that man, you can say whatever you like about Darius but he always gave 100% in every game. He turned out good value for the £2 million we paid to Villa if you compare his effort v Corradi, Samaras, Bianci and the like.

Im sure Darius will be remembered fondly by City fans as a whole hearted player who did his best.
However, unfortunately he appears to be the symbol of ineptitude which surrounded this club around the Sturt Pearce era. While neither Goater and Dickov never had a great deal of talent, they were able to push us up through the divisions and I will always associate them with City fighting back.
Vassell's legacy will not be so great but he did his best nonetheless.

I mentioned a guy called Heiko Westermann yesterday from Shalke. He's a big 6 foot plus German international who can play defense or midfield ( ala Vince Kompany). He seems to fit the MH profile of young players who can multi task so maybe he's the surprise name. Only £9m (only!!). The unknown names that MH has picked so far have turned up trumps. Any thoughts anyone?
Don't think the Tevez saga will be finalised before July, despite what his owner has said today. Why do they always have to introduce the 'unknown club' into the equation. They must have loads of players!!
Big thank you to Benji & Vas for the Derby goals. We all knew that there would be more players going out the door than coming in, Khaldoon the man confirmed it. Most, if not all, will get fixed up elsewhere and lets not forget that they have all been earning a decent living (and in Danny Mill's case for doing nowt!!)
Can't see a great deal actually happening now until July. Ive got a James Taylor concert to go to on Tuesday at the Arena. Then the fun should start & hopefully lots of ins & outs before Crosby Stills & Nash on 10th!
Marvellous!!

>>If Joe Hart is good enough for the prem, and England at U21 then why isn't he No1 at City (again)? Some one said MCFC should be renamed MH & Friends Pension & Retirement fund. How true.
Why? Because he isn't experienced enough to 'lead' and 'direct' the defense of a premier league team bidding for a top 4/6 finish. I think he will be but he isn't now. You said yourself "good enough for England at U21" exactly..... at under 21 but not senior because he hasn't got enough experience and can't command respect from some of the best players in the world YET!
Some of the people Hughes is bringing in are players he's worked with before - what's wrong with that? Surely it's prudent in any business to employ people who have done a good job for you before! He knows how these people train, their work ethic, their professionalism. He is going to stand or fall by the people he brings in, why would it just be jobs for the boys, that's ridiculous!
So I ask my self, why did you renew your season ticket?

One player we must not allow to leave is Caicedo, I think he has a lot of promise and could prove to be a diamond in a couple of years time. CTID

He's not good enough to be number one though. shay is a far better keeper at the minute. In fact in top 3 out of the league for past 5 years or so.

Keep Jo as cover for RSC. Only loan him out to Everton if it helps getting Lescoot in (if we are going after him). Jo is young, he has had a season to adept (so did Henry, Drogba or even the showpony that left for Spain recently, to name a few), and showed progression when on loan at Everton last term.
Benjani and Vassell have no future here, so they should be sold. Same goes for Evans, a youth player that seems to miss the quality to go where we want to go. Either Bojinov or Caceido should stay, but not both of them. We can loan Caceido or Bojinov. I would not be surprised if Bojinov was sold, probably to a team in Italy. I'm not even sure Petrov will hang around much longer depending on who we get in.
Anyway, Hughes has stated no one will leave before we have finished the shopping. So far thats only Barry, RSC and Taylor.

I echo your sentiments. Like Samaras and others before/since, Vassell was ruined by being persistently played out of position. When he first came, alongside Andrew Cole, I thought he did well.
Benjani on the other hand rarely even reached Vassell's heights, whilst Etuhu simply never will. All the above, like Evans, would be Championship standard at best and we need to make space for some of the youth players to come through by clearing the decks.
