Here is how MEN Sport's Chris Bailey rated the Blues this afternoon.
7 GIVEN: hardly point the blame for either goal and within his rights to complain about cover
6 RICHARDS: one storming run down the right ended with a fine shot well saved
6 DUNNE: mostly decent but Adebayor one of the best in the business and caught for the second
7 ONUOHA: one of the tougher assignments he has faced this season and he will have learned
5 BRIDGE: question has to be asked whether he was fit to start and soon limped out of game
6 ZABALETA: started midfield and ended up full back which begs question why was Garrido on bench?
5 KOMPANY: clearly hampered from the start; control was too often poor and went off crocked
7 DE JONG: had a decent game by any standards both in the passing and the tackling departments
7 WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: one run showed he had the beating of Clichy but not enough of the ball
7 BELLAMY: surprise appearance and ran his socks off without ever having decent sight of goal
7 ROBINHO: full of vim and vigour as he chased and worked until tiredness set in after the break
SUBSTITUTES:
FERNANDES (for Bridge 17) – should have scored and not hit post in first half - 6
ELANO (for Kompany 38) – tried hard but Fabregas and Denilson had his measure -
6
STURRIDGE
(for Robinho 77) – got a run into his legs after injury -
6
NOT USED: Hart, Garrido, Benjani, and Bojinov
ARSENAL: Almunia, Sagna, Fabregas (Ramsey 79), Toure, Gallas, Walcott (Eboue 71), Denilson, Song, Clichy, Arshavin, Adebayor (Bendtner 71). Not used: Silvestre, Djourou, Fabianski, and Gibbs.
REFEREE: Howard Webb (Sth Yorks) – usual irritations. Obviously competent but a little self-important - 6

Bailey - you are a joke.
7 for all that lot.
Try
Given 7 - kept it respectable
Richards 6 - lazy
Onuoha - 5 - gave 1st goal away
Dunne 6 - average
Bridge 4 - unprofessional if he said he was fit.
Zab - 6 - committed but owes Webb thanks for staying on
SWP - 5 - 1 run in 90 minutes does not justify a 7.
Kompany 4 - dreadful. If injured should not have started
De Jong - 5 - culpable on 1st goal by not sticking on post
Robinho - 6 - better but still not enough
Bellamy 4 - abject. Did not walk his socks off, never mind run.
Fernandes 5 - missed sitter
Elano - 6 - average
Sturridge - 4 - could not be bothered. Greedy.
Only Onouha for me deserves any credit and thats only a 7
Get it right ! Fernandes was rubbish. For that miss alone he deserves zero. I would even question what clueless Hughes sees in him to think he should put on football boots at all. Is he really a footballer ? Could've fooled me. My five year old would have done better with that chance. Given did little wrong, and couldn't have done any better, so deserves 8. The rest of them were equally pathetic and deserve no more than 4. Another gutless performance, non-performance, call it whatever; one thing is for sure; that is not up to the expectation of us paying fans ! They all deserve a kick in the goolies so they can start to understand what HURT means. I'm sick of this garbage. I feel sick to the pit of my stomach.
Maybe when Sven is eventually picked up by whichever 2nd rate English team that will hire him back, he will sign Gelsen from us and he can fulfil all the potential that Sven saw of him on those DVDs.
What a rubbish player. I believe Sven's words were: "most talented young Swiss player", an absolute insult to the likes of Tranquilo Barnetta, Alexander Frei and Gokhan Inler.
You ask a very good question Chris Bailey, my scalp might bleed if i scratch my head any harder. As you so well put it: "which begs question why was Garrido on bench?"
This is the first time I've viewed a Man City Player rating and it's just a joke with 6's and 7 's when you lost`!!! lol. United don't get that when we win.
No surprises here, and no disgrace in the scoreline. Arsenal can be superb, as well know - and Fabregas is in the world's top 5 players. It's the losses against the lower clubs that we have a right to complain about. But the main issue must be why on earth did Hughes start with Kompany and Bridge when both were clearly unfit? I also think it was ridiculous to start Bellamy after his injury. We have a UEFA quarter final on Thursday. Doesn't Hughes care? What a fool he is at times. We are not yet good enough to get a result at Highbury. The UEFA cup is far more important now we are safe. And can we please knock on the head the idea that we might get 7th place. There's no change with our remaining away fixtures, so forget about it. It is not possible with these players. More quality is needed before we can start dreaming.
How would you rate the Manager, Chris?
or has he slipped off the radar?
That disgracefully negative approach wouldn't even merit a big fat 'zero' from me.
If you do opt to play with two destructive midfield players like Kompany and De Jong, at least have them closing Arsenal down and pushing them back into their own half and forcing their defenders into making mistakes.
This isn't about 'the quality of the opposition': we did the exact same away to Aalborg, and at home to Sunderland when we were comfortably on top
Come on M E N whats with all these 7/10 s ? Why did hughes risk kompany and bridge when they are still not 100% fit?,why play robinho when he`s only been back 24 hours?(and a 7 is flattering him and a 6 is insulting zabaleta)
7th place Premier and winning UEFA Cup ? Come Hughes forget about it. It is not possible with these players. More quality is needed before we can start dreaming.
Robinho " I´ll be the best world player " Dear Robi, Have you see players as Fabregas.
Only a player as Fabregas has more quality that all City. Hughes go home and take Robinho with you ¡
7th place our goal ? Hughes be carefully with relagation zone.
We need a quality midfield player, someone as Fabregas, maybe Alonso or David Silva
7 ROBINHO ¡ , How many points Fabregas ? maybe 10000.
What game was he watching we were dire only Shay kept it from being a walk over,i think our season is now well and truely over and i hope Hughes time with us is also at an end.
man city are terrible
marks for manager as they were omitted by chris 1 out of 10 hughes out
I just leaned back in my chair, poured a can of eno's in my mouth and started gurgling. Who am I?
I give the manager a 0
The fact is that Hughes is hopelessly tactically inept away from home. How much longer are we going to give him? He buys well but there's still a lack of quality in the side and insufficient energy as well. He can't motivate the team at all, it seems. Let's be honest, no top manager would spend this much on players and still have one away victory all season, and the final 3 away fixtures are nailed on losses as well. I predict we will finish no higher than 12th. Fans are getting too optimistic about the UEFA cup as well. We just aren't a particularly good side yet. Some good players yes, but players that have not yet been forged into a team. I can't think of anybody else but time is ticking on Hughes's reign. He simply hasn't shown enough nous for where we want to be going towards, and his backroom team are clearly far too inexperienced for the task as well. RESULTS NEVER LIE!
For goodness sake, you are all (especially blue forever) are going to have a collective embolism if you are not careful. Breath into a paper bag, please.
That game could have been a lot different if Gelsons shot went in.
I don't think it's doom and gloom cause Arsenal are playing excellent right now.
That being said, where was SWP today? Easily his worst perfromance of his career. How many times did Micah run past him only to have SWP turn and go back to goal or come inside and play square. Isn't his job to make overlapping runs into the channels and put crosses in? He just stood around the half way line for most of the game even when we looked to be attempting some form of attack. I'm mad as hell about it.
He gets a well justified 1 in my opinion!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want to seem as though I am trying to whip up a Hughes witch hunt, but I have feel that I have to point out the following.
1. As the season is drawing to an end I have to be honest and say that we are no better now than we were at the start of the campaign. We have not improved in any department and in my opinion have gone backwards from last season.
2. The management team can see the same dross served up when we play away from home, yet have not managed to rectify the problem having spent heavily in defence, midfield and up front. This is their fault and they have shown no signs that they have tactical know how in turning this around.
3. We have spent big money on average players, who have failed to improve our performances over the second half of the season. Heavy investment in January has failed to turn the teams fortunes around, which without stating the obvious is the fault of the management team.
4. Mark Hughes has taken us to the latter stages of the UEFA cup, however in all honesty they have been very lucky. We have turned in some truly awful performances during this tournament and I think that any honest City fan will agree. This has been Hughes saviour as our desperate search for a trophy has been his stay of execution. If we get knocked out of this tournament I can say hand on heart that this season has been a disgrace, especially when you consider the amount of brass that has been spent.
5. Mark Hughes cannot answer the questions as to why we are so poor so often and I am starting to tire of his weak and empty excuses. He repeats the same old after match summary, without ever actually addressing the issues. He also makes promises before games and unfortunately more than often fails to deliver,
6. If the so called project we are involved in continues to deliver nothing in the way of improvement between now and May I think Hughes should not feel hard done by if relieved from his duties.I did not expect top four, or top six, however I did expect more than what has been delivered this season. At times we have been shocking, other occassions clueless and on rare occassions brilliant, The latter far to infrequent. We need tactical awareness, players willing to bust a gut for the manager, (Most of the first team are now Hughes signings so no excuses about not his players) positive approach to matches, game plans suited for our opponents and most of all consistency,
7. Finally if there is any chance of us signing the real top drawer players in the summer I feel that Hughes will have to be replaced by a real top quality coach. My choice would be Marcello Lippi and I would pay him what he wants to bring some much needed discipline to our club. It's all well and good waffling on about the tough training regime when on the Saturday they turn up and play like rubbish.
I don't like to be negative and I would love Mark Hughes to succeed, unfortunately I don't think he is up to the job.
Good stuff today, we flick Zab to LB leave Gari on the bench, play a bunch of injured umpa lumpas up front yet again, Elano still looks lightweight and ineffective 95% of the time yet some fans still think his dump smells of roses. Robinho put plenty in to the game but it was all ineffective due to his decision making, postional play. Personally for top 4 I believe most of the current squad has to go ie. Elano, Fernandes, Sturridge, Benjani.......the list goes on. Hughes is dim, no getting round that fact I'm affraid and his monotone way of delivering his latest excuse is anoying. We're 5 years away from Champions league at least because not only do we need to build a side we have one to get rid of.
bellamy more than zab and elano ? youre seriosuly having a laugh on that. even robbie put in more effort.
Robinho 7 dont think do 4 or 5 how did he get more than Elano he deseved a 7 for me
