No regrets over Wales outburst

CRAIG Bellamy has no regrets over the outburst that shocked Welsh football and dished more home truths ahead of tonight's showdown with Germany.

Wales lost 2-0 at home to Finland on Saturday and the City striker said: "Sometimes you cannot be honest in football, you have to duck questions and be as diplomatic as you can.

"But for me that is not easy. I am emotional and I try to be honest as much as I can. Basically I do not like letting people off."

Also in action tonight are Northern Ireland against Slovenia, Italy against Eire and Scotland against Iceland.

I wouldn't invite the guy out for beer but I admire his honesty. He's only saying what everybody really knows but is too afraid of Toshack to say

he spoke from his heart. it just goes to show how much he loves his country. he's only saying what he thinks. and if people don't like it. then tough. he had a go at robinho the other week. he cares for his club. and wants the best. and it must really pi.s him off. when he runs his heart out. chasing lost causes. for club and country. and he see's people not doing the same. so he has a go. keep it up mate... didn't want you at the start. but glad we got you

Easy to talk like Bellamy does but doing it on the pitch is what`s important, and relaing to that, you can`t expect Bellamy to carry the other 9 x outfield players with him as they`ve got to pull their own finger out. Fair play to Bellamy `cos he`s just saying what`s in his head and doesn`t hide in games when the going`s bad - regardless of performance you always get 100% effort off Bellamy, unlike many players these days that just collect Hollywood wages and do sod all on the pitch effort wise.

Hes only saying what all Welsh have known for a long time, football is not our national sport. Never has been, never will be. Wheres the scoop?

Some strange comments from Blues on this site. Bellamy was bang out of order, although he was talking in the heat of the moment. He slagged off his own players, bad enough. The same ones who he's got to play with against Germany. Ok they aren't good enough, but Bellamy's own performance wasnot exactly 5 star was it ? Far worse was his criticism of the opponents, in particular Johannson, a decent pro who has done well in British football, who had just scored against them. Talk about sour grapes from a sour face. Do your talking on the pitch. I can't imagine a great manager like Clough putting up with the rubbish he came out with. As for some of the Blues on here, talk about hypocrits. Why does the guy not just shut up and get on with trying to get City up the league and win the UEFA cup ? The guy is a liability. His record as a striker is hardly glorious. If it was Alan Shearer he would be listened to, although he has much more class than our Craig ever will have and would never make such comments.

Why not ?? You would not be short of conversation, Craig strikes me as a little more intelligent than the average player. I admire his total honesty, his desire for success, and his passion

There are some people who, no matter what they do in football, others will never like and Bellamy is one footballer I will never like. His attitude towards his own team mates is disgracefull. It's always me me me and no one else. And the sad bit about this is that some CITY fans like him. He'll be going to his 8th or 9th team by the middle of next season!

Whether you agree with him or not, you have to say he is a player desperate to win. He is committed. I admit I was unsure about him when he joined, but now I think he has been a great addition. He brings an edge to the team and some real determination.

i have no interest in Wales,
or Brazil or any other national team except England.
it's irrelevant to City. so he can say whatever he wants.

however, i have just heard on the radio that he is out of the Germany game with a knee injury.
i hope he is fit for the weekend.

In this age of politIcally correct BS, its refreshing to hear Bellamy having a go at a team just going through the motions. He is the Welsh Captain and as such, SHOULD be having a go at the under achievers. As much as I admire Dunnie, if as Skipper he showed that same passion, we may have had a few more points on the board. As much as it pains me to say it, it was this facet more than any other that made the Gyppo a great Captain over in solferd

Craig Bellamy has a passion for the game a passion I personally have craved for over the last two decades or so from a CITY player ok we have had players such as Andy Morrison,Nicky Reid,Tommy Hutchinson,Gerry Gow etc but they have been too far and between collectively our team morale has been affected by lack of leaders and players with undying passion and controlled aggression,Bellamy has got what it takes he is a WINNER! Iam beginning to believe Craig can be the difference in our team being also rans and winning the UEFA Cup with his spirit, determination and passion plus of course the rest of the squad pulling in the same direction that monkey will be falling off our backs very soon its all about application, attitude, team spirit, belief and dedication we have the players to deliver so winning the UEFA Cup is possible --come on you BLUES!!!!!

Ted. if only footy was that simple. Too many simpletons think football is all about passion. Why do so many of you keep saying the same old boring thing ? Every player that has ever pulled on a City shirt has pretty much given their all. Playing with passion is not about kicking people or getting yourself injured or sent off. Most people on this site accuse Brazilians of lacking passion or the 'putting in a shift' nonsense. They have won 5 world cups and appeared in other finals. Nigel Gleghorn always
bangs on about passion. What did he ever win ? It's what you do on the pitch in terms of making the correct decisionevery time you get the ball that counts. All players go on the pitch to try their best and win, whether they are Richard Dunne or Robinho. If Bellamy is such a winner just remind ne of what he has ever won ? I guarantee if we win the UEFA cup it will be without him cause he will stupidly get himself injured !

Well said Ted. You named some proud players there. Nicky Reid used to be the first player i looked out for as the team ran out at Maine Road. His tackling and bombarding runs into the oppositions half were passion inspiring.

He's a great player and I have to say his commitment and performance on the pitch has impressed me more than I expected, but he seems a bit of a control freak to me - that can't be good for team spirit.

Calm down, Craig! You don't have to be in charge of everyone the whole time. That's the manager's job.

Pete Evans - I didn't say football was all about passion -- its also about application, attitude, team spirit or whatever I could have wrote guile, passing ability, great ball control, good shooting skills, good defending etc etc as well but you need passion also.I think you are nit picking to be honest and if you went in the same pub as me I would offer you a bet against your Bellamy theory of being injured if we made the UEFA Cup final --come on Pete you are being very harsh on Craig regarding your question of 'what has he ever won?' perhaps you might get an answer to that question sometime in May moreso he certainly does have ability just observe his goal tally since he joined us? Finally if City do win the UEFA Cup in Istanbul and Bellamy plays a big part will you come on the site and apologise for such fickle comments? somehow I doubt it.....

Ted. I'm not nit picking, just commenting on the ridiculous interview Bellamy gave. He was bang out of order and anyone with any sense knows it. I see he managed to miss last night's game through injury !! If we win the UEFA cup,and nobody hopes we do more than me, I won't need to apologise. it is Bellamy who should apologise for making ridiculous comments that any sensible person in football has condemned. All except blind loyal City fans. As far as his carrer is concerned it is less than impressive. He talks like he is an all time great but his record suggests otherwise.

He was bang on. I know Wales are not world beaters but when Hughes managed them they beat Italy and almost made Euro 2004, narrowly missing out. I thought he was a bit full on but you could see his disappointment and if you're not disappointed when your country gets beat by Finland, when can you be? If everybody went on saying nothing it wouldn't ever change, look at his go at Robinho recently and how the Brazilian responded at Anfield and in Denmark, granted though a disappointing performance against Sunderland.

You're right to say Bellamy isn't world class but he has come and banged the goals in and wants to better himself. He wouldn't have gained a move to City if he didn't want to better himself. He is honest and there is nothing wrong with that.

"Every player that has ever pulled on a City shirt has pretty much given their all."

That is probably one of the most least informed, ridiculous comments I have ever heard. Study the history of the club in more detail and read Blue Moon Rising to get a proper account of what happened to us in the 1990s, or has that decade escaped you? Football isn't about passion of course completely, it's finding a balance between passion and talent, and nine times out of ten the former will overcome the latter.
