GIVEN: not over burdened with shots to stop though plenty of crosses fizzed in front of him 7
RICHARDS: took a couple of spectacular tumbles but had presence of mind to clear off line 7
DUNNE: this was one of his best performances of the season and a great battle with Torres
8
ONUOHA: experienced highs and lows on Thursday in Denmark but all positives here
8
BRIDGE: was exposed on occasions and that made life harder than it should have been
7
KOMPANY: difficult to work out where he was playing in first half but then made the goal
8
ZABALETA: some fine tussles with countryman Mascherano and tireless contribution
8
DE JONG: back after being cup tied in midweek and looked sharp and willing in equal measure
8
IRELAND: missed best chance of the first half when trying to be precise but another fine show
8
ROBINHO: often had three men on him but shone brightly when given the chance
8
BELLAMY: there is no more voluble or harder working player in the Premier League. Great finish
8
SUBSTITUTES:
CAICEDO (for Robinho 86) – no time to mark
NOT USED: Hart, Garrido, Elano, Weiss, Evans, and Vassell
BATTLE OF THE BOSSES:
Hughes – went for the three man screen in front of the back four to entice Liverpool out and the game plan worked.
Benitez – has oft been criticised for his negative tactics and was hardly gung-ho here playing two ‘holders’ and only one up front.
LIVERPOOL: Reina, Dossena (Aurelio 76), Torres, Riera (El Zhar 62), Benayoun, Arbeloa, Kuyt, Mascherano (Babel 82), Lucas, Carragher, Skrtel. Not used: Cavalieri, Hyypia, Ngog, and Spearing
REFEREE: Phil Dowd (Staffs) – it got a bit tasty at times but didn’t do an awful lot wrong -

great performance lads unlucky not to get 3 points but much better
Dunne 8? We will be stuck with him forever now,and Hughes will be taken in.
We looked much improved in the second half with Kompany pushed a little further forward - it really brought the best out of De Jong as well as giving us a target. I thought Richards was much improved, on a par if not better than the rest of the defence. It'll be interesting to see who Hughes drops when SWP comes back, probably Micah.
Just coming past Eastlands now ,and on to New Road ,and with mixed feelings too .It seems that the premiership is being handed to united
It doesnt seem fair after the luck they had yesterday.City got an hard earned point ,but with a defensive line up .Will Hughes ever get it right ?
glad to here micah and dunney had decent games and also as i said torres would get nowt out of nedum onuaha looks aslo our signings may be begining to gel as the team showed much more commitment
also 3 midfielders in zab, kompany and de jong is definetely the way to go in away games as they get stuck in and can defend so keep this partnership the same in all away games and we might begin to win away
dunney played well and deserved an 8 as did all the players
Given 7, Richards 6, Dunne 7, Onohua 7, Bridges, 6, Kompany 7, Zabaleta 5, DE JONG 8, Ireland 7, Robinho 6, Bellamy 7
Mark Hughes 3/10 - A fluke goal gave us hope, but the 'Losing Mentality' is still endemic and we were always going to throw it away...
Great finish??..It was deflected!!!
Bridge was poor in my opinion...as was Richards, happy with a point there though, well fought second half...now aways at Arsenal, Chelsea and Stretford...Lets see how many points we get from that lot.
Well done CITY its a good point thought we deserved 3,was nice to see things comeing together signs of the team begining to gel we played for each other today,Nice to see hughesy aknowlage the fans, lets hope rest the season ends well, WELL DONE SPARKY & THE BOYS GOOD RESULT!!!
WILL THE WINKER GET PUNISHED FOR HIS KICK??? I wont hold my breath aye FA
CTID.
Watched the game on iraq goals .com there is one you cant forget.
Great 2nd half. Its what we needed a solid performance. We cant play with SWP Rob and Ireland away from home.
De Jong worked hard one great effort on goal. Signings are settling in.
neddy tott ??? teddy knott??
A superb performance end of.
****in sick of the negative jibes.
We WILL Finish 6th and with the money in the summer stake claim in the top 4 and then move on from there.
Back MH boys ffs.
Toure, Upson & Santa Cruz and we're away big time.
I like Robinho but he didnt touch the ball till half way thru second half. How did he get an 8? He should be marked like Caceido..."no time to mark".
Caceido should've got an 8 for the work he did in the little time he had!!!! He held the ball up better than anyone on the pitch today. Maybe he should be getting half an hour next time?
Bridge getinng an 8? Do me a favor. Time and time again he was responsible for letting Liverpool get in behind. Only the work of our other defenders and Liverpools poor finishing prevented his mistakes from becoming a nightmare.
These scores prove once again that they are solely based on the result and not the actual work of individual players. If Liverpool sneaked in another goal and everything else was the same you would be reading 4's and 5's for everyone. What a load of rubbish MEN!
These proves once gain
Neddy tott, do you get any pleasure from watching city, it doesn't seem it! When we are appauling by all means, but we were far from that today ... what's that all about?
Good Grief
Shay Given, "not over burdened with shots to stop" that will be apart fom the match saving wonder stop at the end, then!
"Great finish from Bellamy," would that be the one credited as an own goal, and described on football365 as "...colossally jammy"
What is this guy watching?
First of all, doom merchants, Liverpool have not lost at home in any competetion this year.
City improved as the match developed, and outplayed Liverpool in parts.
Hughes signings, Bellamy, De Jong, Kompany, Given, Bridge, Zabaleta all deserve mention for exceptional performances and damned hard work.
Great stuff from City, the work in progress is showing some signs! Hughes, you are doing fine in my book, and in most right minded City fans' books.
Steve Ireland was MOM on the pitch as picked out by the Aregntian commentators I was listening to. Don't forget that he credits his form to Mark Hughes. Just wish he would learn to be a little calmer in front of goal.
Spot on, Sir Bailey.
One minor quibble: Young Micah deserves an eight too. He was on fire today. And I'm pretty glad it was him and not me with that ground-level somersault (did that skiing recently and it flippin' hurts!).
Bridge (still settling in) and Given (solid but largely untested) are the only genuine sevens - possibly a six for Wayne - in what was otherwise a tremendous team peformance.
And - oh! - if only Stevie had got that goal in the first half. That whole move had MAGNIFICENT written all over it!
Come on Chris Bailey. Who was your MOM then?!?
NEDDY TOTT
originally i think you did that name of yours as a parody of ted? strangely, you've now turned nto him
edski,
you weird little man. i'm beginning to think you're a rag masquerading as a blue. give your head a shake and get a life.
@ Edski Vega
You're in a negativity rut par excellence, my friend. Ever considered counselling - or a trip to the opticians?
neddy tott- do you even watch the games or do you just come on here and have a go and be negative,
dunney was great today and back to his best and all you can do is try and look for a negative when there was not one!
great performance today the whole team played well and put the effort in, however bridge looked very shakey again.
great performance and a massive improvment
All these marks might be a bit light. That was a wonderful second
half performance by City. I love City today!
Up the Reds,
Neddy Tott are you for real! Great display today looking forward to Thursday where we can build on this and Sunday if results go for us and a performance like today we can go 7th which to be fair is as best we can hope for this season but with a better squad next year who knows.
As for Bridge give him a break i thought he played well today.
I'd of taken both of this weeks results at the start of the week so good stuff boys.
Great second half performance and some great performances today, VK, De Jong and Given when called upon, Bellamy now has 3 in the six games he's played, not a bad start.... Oh, i see a pattern, there all mark hughes signings. Ireland was outstanding again.
The key for City is us being able to use it as a stepping stone to build on but its 1 step forward 2 back this season so i just hope we can continue it over the next few games.
On another point, we need to get in touch with FA if Ronaldo's kick goes unpunished this week.
Will all you negative, moaning pains please wind your neck in.
This by no means solves all our problems but credit where it is due.
2nd half was very positive. I know, I was there.
Unbelievable that some fans should concern themselves with whether we assist United with today's result. Let us concern ourselves with securing has many points as we are able. Who cares about the rest.
de jong was my man of the match, looks an outstanding prospect alongside VK, and in general the second half was a huge improvement... though richards is still giving them too much space out wide on the right. their goal came from the fact that he wasn't back fast enough and thus not tight enough on his man to prevent the cross - and in the centre the others were momentarily ball-watching too, instead of concentrating on staying tight on first torres and then kuyt so they could make the kind of decisive intervention that they did manage at other times. result, one-one. you've got to keep concentration for all 90 minutes at this level, or you get punished. but it was certainly an improvement in the defensive area of midfield. more of this please...!!!
