Manchester City

Jo and Ben Haim close to exit

EVERTON  are poised to add Manchester City striker Jo to their squad before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia has revealed that he is close to signing Tal Ben Haim.

City and Everton are understood to be in talks over a proposed loan transfer which would see 21-year-old Jo move to Goodison Park for the rest of the season.

Brazilian striker Jo joined City in the summer from CSKA Moscow but has struggled to find form for Mark Hughes' team.

The former Corinthians frontman had been a huge success in Russian football and City paid around £19million to bring him to Eastlands.

At the time that was a club record fee, since surpassed by the £32.5mCity spent on Robinho, however Jo has only scored three times, and two of those came in the UEFA Cup against Omonia Nicosia.

Everton urgently need strengthening in attack, having recently had to rely on midfielder Tim Cahill playing out of position as a central striker due to an injury crisis.

Frontmen Ayegbeni Yakubu and Louis Saha are among the players who manager David Moyes has been forced to cope without recently, and the proposed move could benefit both Everton and City if Jo sees regular action.

Jo's most recent appearance for City came in the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on January 3.

Sunderland are close to securing Israel international Ben Haim.

The centre half joined the Blues in the summer from Chelsea but has struggling to nail down a starting place.

Sbragia confirmed the former Bolton player could sign today.

Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw at Newcastle, Sbragia denied he was poised to sign Darren Bent from Tottenham, and said: “The one we've done is Tal Ben Haim. I think that's going to be done some time today.

“We need a defender and he's a good defender. I've worked with him previously and I know what I'm getting.”

I anticipate this will be one of a few outgoing city deals today and tomorrow: Jo, Benji (to Pompey), Caicedo (perhaps) and Ched and the oh-so-clinical Vassell to one of the Championship promotion contenders. That would leave us with Boj, Sturridge, Bellamy and Robby up front, hence why I can't see the owners pooh poohing MH's revised offer for RSC. We could also see Berti and Elano going and I expect an unexpected bid for a defender...keep checking those websites fellow citizens!

David Moyes will turn Jo into a 20 goal a season player WHY,
Cause he gives his players 100 percent confidence and backs them to the hilt, something that Mark Hughes could take away from him, His man management skills are second only to red nose at the swamp. All this Physical presence crap is a load of old tosh. Tim Cahill 5-9 scores more headers than the whole of our team put together. Its about intelligent players being coached by an intelligent coach. Its not rocket Science.Jo will fire Everton into the Champs League

I am happier to see him go on loan before taking the decision to sell permanently. He may do well and we could get more money and minimize the loss.

Any chance of Lescott to move in the opposite direction?

By all means let him go out on loan "if" we have cover.

But if we cannot bring anyone else in, then we may need to keep hold of him.

David Moyes is a shrewd manager and if he thinks Jo can do a job for them, why can't he for us??

This can only be good for not both JO but my beloved. It will give him 4 months to prove his worth. If it does not work out and he does not score, we get rid, Money is no object. I would like it to work though as i have this gut feeling, Only a gut feeling. He could prove his worth. The same for Ched Evans. Loan only. LETS GET STURRIDGED SIGNED UP

ive lost all my respect for david moyes now. jo is very poor in every aspect of the game. a bit like wayne bridge was yesterday. mark hughes couldnt motivate an alcoholic to get drunk he should go after that yesterday!!!

More money wasted . Hughes must go clueless against stoke yesterday .

Good manager (apart from signing Saha ?) who will either make him a Premier class player or let him go again. It's only a loan deal so if he does improve then we can get back a better player.

Question is, why can't our coaching staff improve this player ?

Only other problem with this deal is he could help Everton to finish in the top six for certain, so it looks like 7th is the best we can hope for this season (as long as we play better than yesterday !)

To be honest what I have seen of him it would be best to let him go on loan only if we have cover. By all accounts he has caused a bit of trouble and has not settled. He spends more time on his bum than most players I have seen.

his departure strengthens us (poor attitude) and weakens Everton (hes a pansy)

we are giving are direct rivals for sixth spot a 19M pound striker!!...haha...who would have thought it...i think he needs time, he disnt play for Brazil by the time he was 21 for nothing!

As long as Moyes does not want him to play in a 4-5-1 formation he ,may well do well at the Toffees. Jo is a skilful player - you don't get in to the Brazil national side if you can't control the ball. For some reason Hughes has taken a dislike to him and he never gets a chance. Working with Moyes will probably help Jo adjust better to the demands of the EPL - certainly better than sitting on a bench.

I assume there's a clause in the deal to prevent him playing against us ! There is...isn't there..?

Here's my prediction, a decent manager will play him in his prefered position , and he will be a succes until the end of the season.

We will take him back, and if Hughes is STILL there , he will give him a try in the WRONG position , then stick him on the bench until he is sold.

It's called management.

Well all you MH supporters here is the experiment that will decide if MH is really a good coach.

If JO goes to everton and is a success the question must be why at Everton and not at Manchester City.

If Jo is a flop then MH was right and I will come on this site and admit that he got that decision right.

When Jo first featured for us he was very good he was unused to premiership pace etc but a good start.

Then MH weaved his management style motivation an pow Jo does not improve.

I predict Everton will get a good return from him because he will play regularly and thus gain confidence.

We will benefit from a rejuvenated Jo who hopefully is smart enough to know that most City fans want him to do well.

I am watching.
MH supporters were are you? lets hear your opinion.

It's all very well saying "give Hughes time, he'll turn it around" - and I'm not one of those saying "Hughes out" either (at least not till the end of the season), but there's one game coming up which I believe could be his death knell.

When Pompey fail to beat Liverpool next weekend, they won't have won a league game since November. Then who do they play next?

If we lose the Portsmouth game, any doubt about Hughes keeping his job in the summer will have gone. No ifs, no buts, he'll be history and he'll only have himself to blame. He would have had an entire transfer window with which to buy the core players he needs, but to lose to two non-performing teams in fairly quick succession would be employment suicide.

Look, I'm still hopeful we can sign the players we need before 5pm Monday, but if we can't, this is going to be the hardest hill to climb since 'Shorty' Sean McShortcake stood at the foot of Ben Nevis, balancing on a pair of crutches, looked up and gulped!

Can't wait for tomorrow.

cant wait for tomorrow. got everything sorted. day off. sitting in front of sky from 7.30am- to watch the transfer window close. and who we will buy. i reckon it will be better than the last day of the summer one. when we signed robinho...

Not sure about this one. Personally would keep hold of Jo until end of the season and then see what happens. Certainly a risk for Hughes if Jo goes to Everton and does score a few goals, we will all start asking why he didnt at City....
