CITY’S defence of the FA Youth Cup got off to the smoothest possible start at Liberty Stadium.
The holders were never seriously threatened by a physically impressive but technically limited Welsh side.
In winning the contest the boy Blues extended their unbeaten run for the season to 15 matches during which they have now scored 52 times. They remain the only unbeaten under 18 side in the Academy set up.
“That was just the start we were looking for,” declared a satisfied Academy boss Jim Cassell.
“We knew we would be faced with a stern test by Swansea and we produced a mature and accomplished performance capped by three well taken goals. If I had a slight criticism it was that we could have had scored more but it was a fine start to this year’s competition.
“There is a long way to go and we will not get carried away making predictions but we will improve and the boys can be pleased with their work.”
The Blues dominated in terms of chances made in the opening quarter though Kieran Trippier and Robbie Mak both fired wide from outside the box then Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni forced a fine save from Rhys Wilson who parried into the path of Mak.
The Slovakian teenager should have scored from the rebound but saw his shot saved on the line.

Still, the top scorer didn’t take long to make amends add to his impressive tally for the season racing through in the 29th minute to slot comfortably past the on-rushing Wilson.
It brought up double figures for the season for Mak and took the team’s total to the half century mark.
Swansea found it nearly impossible to shackle the pace of Mak and when the underused Chris Chantler sent him haring through again in the shadow of the half time whistle it took a wizard of a save from Wilson to prevent City doubling their lead.
They had to wait until 58th minute for the second, an easy finish from five yards by Liberian striker Nimely-Tchuimeni after Chantler had weaved his way to the goal-line and delivered a measured cross.
It was the hitman’s thirteenth of a productive campaign and he made it fourteen in the final minute again from close range after Dedryck Boyata's headed pass.
