NINE-MAN Manchester City slipped to a third consecutive Premier League defeat against Tottenham at a rain-soaked Eastlands.
Brazilian star Robinho scored his eighth Blues goal after 16 minutes but 10 minutes later Gelson Fernandes was sent off for a second yellow card.
Tottenham were soon back on level terms when Darren Bent struck, and the forward scored the winner after 64 minutes.
City's misery was compounded late on when Richard Dunne was sent off for a professional foul on Bent, and although Benoit Assou-Ekotto was sent off for Spurs late on, the Blues could not find an equaliser.
The Blues were on top early on and Robinho, who scored a cracker against FC Twente on Thursday, was on target again.
He scored from close range, after Darius Vassell’s effort had been parried - with Shaun Wright-Phillips also playing a part in a swift counter-attack.
However, the match took a significant twist in the 26th minute when Fernandes was sent off for two bookable offences - the first on Modric, the second on Bentley.
Influential
Modric almost pulled Spurs level two minutes later, only to be denied by a splendid block from Joe Hart, but the visitors did not have long to wait for the equaliser, however, Bent providing an assured finish in the 29th minute.
He gave Hart no chance after defender Dunne had failed to cut out a long ball from the influential Modric.
Dunne almost put the hosts ahead again in the 61st minute when he got on the end of an inswinging free-kick from Garrido - but Gomes reacted superbly to block the captain’s header.
And Spurs went ahead in the when Tom Huddlestone picked out Jermaine Jenas in the area. He laid the ball off into the path of Bent, who rattled a shot in off the post.
City suddenly picked up the pace, despite being down on numbers, and Benjani headed wide in the 72nd minute following a cross from Garrido.
Three minutes later Robinho saw his effort turned around the post by Gomes, and the goalkeeper continued his good work in the 77th minute when he blocked Ireland’s effort from an acute angle.
City were reduced to nine in the 83rd minute when Dunne was given a straight red card, after referee Deane adjudged he had hauled back Bent as he homed in on goal.
Tottenham then found themselves down to 10 on the stroke off full-time, Assou-Ekotto red-carded for a challenge on Pablo Zabaleta.
What is your verdict on the game? Have your say.

You can always tell with us cab't you? I just knew we'd blow it today.
We are now two points off the bottom and are in relegation form.
It doesn't matter who plays for us or is in charge we have a culture that has festered for years that allows players to get away with this kind of performance.
No doubt the usual exuse merchants will be on here soon bemoaning the sending off, seeing the silver linings etc. Wasn't it Hughes the other week who said it was hard playing against ten men because sending off galvanised teams? Not at City though.
Either we get Lippi in and spend big in January or the likes of Robinho will be out of here like a shot.
A disgrace to the shirt half of this lot.

He was full of promise but has had his head turned and unfortunately his career will go the way of other promising players.
Dunne is not up to it. He was a rock for us in Division two and the chapionship and is not a premiership player.
Those saying he's been a loyal servant and stick with him well great if you want to see us shipping goals but I don't.
We are still a laughing stock.

Another defeat at HOME! 1 point away from the relegation zone.
WHY DO I NEVER LEARN? - I always know I should 'in game' bet on City to lose when we go 1-0 up but time and again I love the club too much to do it!!!
Another week of misery! Another frustrating Sunday - wasted waiting for another defeat!
Positives from the game: Benjani reminding us all how dismal he is -may just save us paying the additional £4.5m if we sell him in January.
Another goal for Robinho - a tap in but they all count towards his dream of playing for Chelsea in January and we may make our £3m back on him (meaning he only cost us a £10m loss in wages and fees).
Hughes record so far:
Tottenham, ROCK BOTTOM of league - 2-1 Humilitaion!
Newcastle Second from bottom of league with 10 - they lead 2-1 and we score late equaliser!
Bolton - 3rd from Bottom of league - Humiliating 2-0 defeat!
Wigan 5th from Bottom - humiliating 2-1 defeat.
Middlesboro - shocking 2-0 defeat
Utterly abysmal! Hughes YET AGAIN Unable to turn it around and we YET AGAIN Collapse in the second half of a game (for the 6th time this season)

Following the Dubai summit who will be our new manager? I think they may go for Mourinho - whether he would come to City is another matter.
Bergkamp is hungrier but probably wants London because of his travelling issues.

City have to be the only side in England who always conceed withing 5 mins of going down to 10 men - they have done it for the past few seasons - is it nerves?
Every team we play against PLAYS better against us when they are down to 10 men - Chelsea humiliated us when Terry was sent off at COMS and Newcastle almost beat us despite playing the whole match with 10 men at St James park
7 Defeats in the premier league from 11 games - a pathetic 4 wins from 11!!!!!!
A humiliating defeat in the league cup against an utterly abysmal Brighton side who have been mediocre this season!
A shocking home defeat in Europe against part timers. 9 Defeats for a manager with the best job in football - that's not even mentioning the abysmal displays in Europe against Nicosia Twente.
Januray is not going to help - no good players are going to be available - The mediocre ones we end up signing will come for twice what they are actually worth.
The momentum and confidence has gone - it's going to be a hard slog for Hughes to get a winning mentality - he really blew his big chance - big style!

Seeing it on the web, Dunne was in a no-win situation for his sending off and Gelson's second yellow was a disgraceful decision. We'd have won 3-1 if we'd been allowed to play the whole game like we started. We were ripping them apart in the middle.
But saying that, whether people like it or not, Mark Hughes will be "relieved of his duties" before the January transfer window opens. If many of us aren't happy, you can be damn sure ADUG are climbing the walls, right now. I don't know how long they'll give him, maybe till The Big One at the end of the month, but I think the wheels are already in motion and Hughes has to start working miracles NOW or he's blown his big chance.
The King of Siam, Siam (09/11/2008 at 17:18)
Public opinion has turned against him, the players aren't responding to his much vaunted training methods and he has some tough games coming up.
The bottom line for me is that the job he faces post-takeover is very different to the one he took on back in the summer. If the finances available to the club and the aspirations of the owners are completely different than was the case back in July, why should we assume that Hughes is still the best man for the job, particularly given the poor form? This is the obvious question the board will be asking now.
The press has been making noises about replacements over the past week or so but I heard last month that a deal was already under discussion with a new manager. And it isn't for a certain D. Ferguson.

Do not blame Dunne for this defeat he should have been left out from the start, you have to put his selection and the other team mistakes firmly at the door of MH.
The man is a mid table manager no more no less, look at what Harry has done at spurs and spent no money just used his football brain and his personality.
I will be at the Arsenal game next week where we will be stuffed if MH is still in control,i can not wait to read some of your excuses for this man staying in charge,it just proves my point that most of you know nothing.
Thanks
