HART: not tested either side of the goals but must be fed up at letting in another pair 6
ZABALETA: lost possession for equaliser. Otherwise very strong and committed 7
DUNNE: just passed the doctor and put in his usual unselfish stint for the side 6
RICHARDS: restored to a more comfortable position in the heart of the defence and did ok 6
GARRIDO: one saving tackle in the first half was excellent and generally tidy 6
WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: scored fine opening goal and worked hard in middle but width missed 7
IRELAND: some lovely one touch passes but could have done with more end product 6
FERNANDES: enough pointing to remind one of Steve McManaman but did fine 6
ROBINHO: hardly saw him in the first half but what a way to announce arrival 7
JO: one gilt edged chance hit keeper’s legs but lacks physical strength at moment 5
VASSELL: rusty after so many months on the sidelines but hustled and bustles 6
SUBSTITUTES:
BENJANI (for Jo 59) – fairytale return even if he needed a deflection - 7
ELANO (for Vassell 65) – always looks good on ball and did again - 6
NOT USED: Schmeichel, Onuoha, Ben Haim, Hamann, and Evans

Ireland and Dunney only 6????
THANK GOD !!! A WIN.
NERVE RACKING BUT ENJOYABLE.
HARD TO FIND MY M.O.M.
CTID.
Good result against a decent team. How Zabaletta gets a 7 and Garrido only a 6 given zabs was given an absolute roasting by the left winger on several occasions is just beyond me.
Garrido gave us balance, Ireland was, once again, our best player, Fernandes is clearly trying too hard and at times plays football in the wrong area but does give us more mobility and physicality (Than Elano) in the middle of the pitch.
Still unconvinced by Dunne and Richards, did not seem to tackle anyone in the 1st half but in the 2nd, Dunne got stuck in so fair play.
Robinho, class finishes.
One thing the team should learn from Twente is how to move off the ball. Although they lacked a cutting edge, I thought their movement was excellent and that's how they create their chances....we can learn from that.
Do these guys even watch the games!
Ireland was immense in the second half chasing, winning tackles and passing (take note Fernandes).
Jo I thought did well enough and just needs a goal. He gives us a target , is mobile and a clever player.
Their left winger looked quick and direct - Elia?
Garrido played well enough to suggest he should get a run of games now.
Robinho from the pathetic to the sublime .... and back again.
We need a defensive midfielder don't we more than anything and a top class centre-back.
Hart-6, Zabs-6, consistently burned by Elia's speed, Dunne-7, back on form, Richards-6, Garrido-6, looked better at lb than Richards could have, Fernandes-5, wins the ball to give it back, Ireland-7, kept the team together in the first half, made space and looked good playing deeper, SWP-7, scored and looked dangerous, Jo-6, only lacked a goal but showed great work rate, Vass-4, having a laugh aren't you, Robinho-8, world class and up for it in the second half
subs: Elano-6, love to watch him distribute and create, but it would have made more sense to bring on Kompany once we were up, Benjani-7, scored on his first look, a good option to have off the bench
The truth;
HART: their marks 6 mine 5 average
ZABALETA: their marks 7 mine 5 average/poor
DUNNE: their marks 6 mine 5 very average should be told never to pass the ball more than 5 yards - when is he going to get on the end of an attacking corner?
RICHARDS: their marks 6 mine 4 below average someone needs to show him videos of his current performances and compare them to what we've seen - someone should stop him being taught passing by Dunne
GARRIDO: their marks 6 mine 5 average
WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: their marks 7 mine 5 average
IRELAND: their marks 6 mine 7 the only who looked vaguely up for it at 1-1
FERNANDES: their marks 6 mine 6 as good as he can be
ROBINHO: their marks 7 mine 5 average great goal lots of hype (the last time I heard tv commentators talking such one-eyed rubbish whatever they were watching it was about Captain Marvel)
JO: their marks 5 mine 6 managed to hold the ball up more than previous lost his marker a couple of time
VASSELL: their marks 6 mine 6 did a job in the first half and didn't fall over too easily
SUBSTITUTES:
BENJANI their marks 7 mine 6 ok
ELANO their marks 6 mine 5 average, very
Overall need to improve, play as a team, perhaps keep the ball better and tackle the opposition when they have it head the ball first at corners (both ends)
Hart:
worryingly Dibble-like, has the seagull landed (again)? Might want to start playing like he has a pair. Needs to get himself a soft cushion come January.
Dunne: Just like a mate of mine who, diagnosed last week with brain cancer, decided to be unselfish and go to work (65K a YEAR) putting in a stint for his wife and four.
Zabaleta was never a 7 in a million years. He was terrible.
Hart 6 Zabaleta 5, Garrido 7, Dunne 5, Richards 5 , Gelson 4 Ireland 7, SWP 7, Vassell 5, Robinho 8, Jo 5
Benjani 7 Elano 6
To me MOM: Robinho !
He is in another league than the rest. Only SWP is reaching, WHY CAN*T YOU SEE ?????
By gum, we were lucky to get a win.
Only Ireland gave his all. Dunny wasnt that bad. Good goal frob Rob and Benji.
Fernades , Joe , Vasell, Garido and Richards were very poor.
Still not convinced that we can finish in top half. We need major improvement and soon
Dunnes "unselfish" ?? get a life with these comments..Hes paid $65k a week and doesnt work down a coal mine.Hes a useless buffoon and is now being shown up for what he is a carthorse
Real concerns at the heart of defense. Dunne completely lost his man at the corner from which Twente scored. He'll play well for most of the game but invariably seems to make costly blunders. Not good enough and must be replaced in January. What's happened to Richards' speed. Is he carrying a knock? A player like Robinho is a match winner. It doesn't matter if he had a poor first half. Who else is going to score a goal like that? Garrido very good today, defensively and going forward. SWP was really good today as well. Fernandez won't be here long. I like him but he can't pass forward. Lot's of improvment needed. A performance like tonight and we'll get beat by Spurs. Things will get worse before they get better. Which they most certainly will.
Thought Zabaleta and Garrido worked their socks off tonight. I know they've had their critics but they were in the right place when needed. Biggest disappointment of the season has been Richards. At key moments has switched off and consequently we've conceded cruical goals. His fault for the first tonight, not Dunne or Zabaleta.
Anyway...confident things are coming together and looking forward to more European nights
Some odd marks here. Thought Jo did a reasonable job and Garrido had a good game. Also, whilst the TV commentators made a fuss about Twente's late miss Garrido and Dunne deserved credit for getting in the guy's face and making him shoot high: if he'd hit it low, I think they would have blocked his shot.
Chris Bailey are you blind? How can you give Ireland only a 6/10, the same as Vassell? Ireland was by far the best player on the pitch and should have got an 8. Vassell, Richards and Dunne were woeful and should all be dropped for the next match. I don't know what has happened to Micah but if a club offered £20m for him now I'd snap their hand off. 4/10 for all three of them
I have been telling you all season long - Jo is £17m over priced! He will be leaving for £3m within the next 12 months...... useless!
Ireland put in another hard shift and Dunne showed just why he will be missed if he does get injured, looked more balanced with Gorrido playing LB good to see Benji back and on the score sheet. Just need to be positive against spuds on Sunday and defend well and let Robinho and Benji put the ball away, City 2 Spuds 1
Benjani was excellent when he came on. Jo needs to bulk up a bit if he is going to make an impression in this league. Zab was a bit unlucky to not get a free kick with the goal.l...most Euro refs would have given that but unforgiveable was Micah waiting for it and giving the striker a clear run on goal. Prefer SWP wide right but he did a job. Ireland started well then faded. Prefer Elano but that is 25% and 75% Ireland as far as I can see. Dreadful marking by Dunne for their second but bailed us out of the doo doo three times after that and we were helped by that amazing miss near the end! Main thing is good result, reasonable tactics by MH (ie not playing MR at left back) and we looked more balanced. First time that has happened in a few games. But we need to be up for it against Spurs or they will turn us over! I said I wasn't putting money on it...glad I didn't, could have gone either way at several points but great, great result. Especially after Schalke got a point at Racing.
Imre Varadi - clearly not at the game - Good players worth at least a 7 - Robinho, Ireland, Zabeleta, Dunne and Benjani. Worth a 6 - Jo, Vassell, SWP, Garrido, Elano and Hart. Worth a 5 - Richards - out of position most of the time, Worth a 3 - Fernandes; what a useless excuse for a defensive midfielder.
Zab good in the tackle, up for the battle but his lack of pace raises my hackle (sic)
Vassell 6...are you trying to insult our intelligece? deserves 1 for turning up and reminding everone how bad he his.
The number of through balls Ireland stopped was unbelievable and I thought he was our top man....well, well up for it. Funny with Robinho isn't it - he came here with a reputation as a dribbler but 8 out of 10 times he's lost it. But put him in a position to finish and he's just brilliant!! Oh and Dunnie's fine as a defender but don't let him distribute and don't keep playing the ball back to Hart to boot it - we're probably one of the smallest teams in the top flight.
Our defence was dreadful and Garrido was the only defender to come out of the game with any credit,Hart was like a cat on a hot tin roof and hardly generates confidence when he comes to collect crosses moreso he does not command his area too well.Dunne and Richards were very poor where if we had been playing a better side we would have conceded more goals,Dunnes distribution is awful as too is his defensive heading always failing to get distance on his clearances need I say any more about him?Hughes should know in football you build good teams from the back but he clearly isn't doing that and more worrying is that in his post match comments he overlooked the disturbing defensive problems.Over the rest of the season the results will do a lot of talking but I feel the worst unless Sparky signs an experienced keeper,a centre back,a left back and a holding midfielder the second half of the season will be one mighty struggle due to a few hammerings by teams exposing this glaring problem at the back. We won and Robinho's goal was superb so its a start I suppose but Hughes still has a long way to go yet, personally I think he'll be gone before next season the job looks too big for him at this moment of time. To be fair our performance hardly pulled any trees up but left us all feeling a wee bit pessimistic it was afterall a very ordinary performance. Finally who is our goalkeeping coach???????
ok, here we go....
...hart, did ok.
zabaleta, had a good game, dealt with most that their left winger had to offer.
garrido, had a good game. i think he is the short term answer to the left back issue.
richards - did ok.
dunne, needs to stop his 100 yard passes, just give it to the midfield. defensively ok. ish.
fernandes - ok, but would have preferred kompany in that position.
ireland - quality.
robinho - good goal, other than that went missing most of the time.
swp - did ok.
vassell - did ok. ish.
jo - samaras in disguise??
elano - still no need to wash a kit yet, still not broken a sweat...
benjani - did well.
the effort levels need to be lifted, we are carrying quite a few passengers at the moment. ireland must look at the rest of the mid / attack and wonder why they aren't running and chasing as much as him.
not too critical, but feel that at 1 - 0 we should have taken fc twente apart.
Ireland and Dunney only 6????
Tipperary Blue,
My thoughts exactly, they kept us in the game for the second half
