MANCHESTER City's away day struggles continued at the Reebok Stadium where the Blues slipped to defeat against spirited Bolton.
Mark Hughes' men were beaten at Middlesbrough in midweek, and again failed to find a spark against the Trotters.
Ricardo Gardner put Bolton ahead after 77 minutes, converting Gretar Steinsson's driven cross, before Richard Dunne scored an own-goal with three minutes remaining. It was City's fourth defeat in six away league games.
City offered precious little. Robinho showed plenty of glimpses of quality but the Brazilian and his team-mates could find no way past Jussi Jaaskelainen, who made at least three saves of the highest quality.
The crowd again fell several thousand below capacity, the swathes of empty seats a reflection of the Trotters’ struggles but City supporters also failed to come close to selling their ticket allocation.
Those who had bothered to turn up at least got to watch Robinho in the flesh and he showed plenty of early promise with some delightful footwork and acute awareness of players around him.
The Brazilian magician was deployed just behind Evans but frequently drifted out to the left flank in a bid to collect possession.
He did that in the sixth minute, with almost devastating consequences for Bolton. Gliding his way infield from the left, Robinho hit a ferocious, dipping right-foot shot which flew narrowly over Jaaskelainen’s crossbar.
City carved out the most clear-cut chance in the 41st minute when Ched Evans’ neat pass cut Bolton to pieces and gave Stephen Ireland a clear run of goal, but Jaaskelainen raced off his line to smother the midfielder’s low shot.
Interval
Bolton replaced Mustapha Riga with Gardner shortly before the interval after the Dutchman took a knock following a heavy challenge from Dunne.
But Jaaskelainen was forced into another fine parried save on the stroke of half-time when he denied Evans after the Welshman was put clear by Wright-Phillips, who then headed straight at the goalkeeper after the ball was played back into the danger zone.
City sought to up the tempo after the restart and in the 51st minute Wright-Phillips embarked on a fine run, cutting in from the left flank and engineering the space to thrash a left-foot shot over the crossbar.
The visitors went far closer in the 57th minute when Robinho found the space to turn past Steinsson and plant a neat right-foot shot which required another fine save from Jaaskelainen.
While Bolton’s quality was questionable, their spirit was not in doubt and in the 62nd minute Hart denied Kevin Nolan with a brave close-range save before referee Mike Riley waved away appeals for a penalty following Dunne’s clumsy challenge on Matty Taylor.
The breakthrough finally arrived with 13 minutes remaining when Nolan’s astute pass sent Steinsson clear down the right flank.
He whipped in a low cross which Gardner fired in left-footed off the underside of the crossbar.
The goal poured confidence into Megson’s players and victory was assured minutes from time when Gardner crossed low from the left and the hapless Dunne fired the ball into his own net from six yards.
What is your verdict on the game? Have your say.

The failures of this season - and there have been s few successes in between - have been characterised by consistencies: poor team selections, poor substitutions, poor on-field leadership and a profound imbalance in the side.
We will continue to occupy the bottom places in this league unless and until the incumbent manager sorts out the above, either by getting his **** together or by buying some more battlers.
Very, very, very angry with this now. Where's our next points coming from ?
MH, I am rapidly losing faith in you.

Cant blame Dunny for the second goal, what could he do?
Micah looked out of sorts and is not a left back. Have to play Garrido/Ball and live with the consequences.
Still, on the bright side, only seven points short of the top five and 27 games left! Onwards and upwards!

The only players I see should stay is Ireland Robinho HART SWP get shut of the rest when we can -
We are the laughing stock -
I say break the bank and get the special one to manage these no hopers ... he will bring class -
That performance was pathetic - what the hell was Richards trying to be a goal scorer when he cant play football...
Why o why cant we beat a one on one ...
No consistency..no composure..no decent passing - too many hoof up the park and take pot luck...
Dunnie an hinderance always has been -
Sack the lot!

We have a better side than twelve months ago yet we are in a worse situation, stop defending this clown of a manager and lets get rid sooner rather than later.
He has had enough time and chances to get this right but sadly he is not up to the challenge.
We must move forwards we have to ensure that we can compete at the highesy level i am sorry to say that with this numpty picking the team and deciding the tactics we are a joke.
Defend him all you like but i am entitled to my opinion and its has been stated.
Also i just purchased a ticket for the gooners and the ticket office staff need to learn some customer care skills, they are rude and offensive.
Thanks.

Micah Richards is a centre back or right back so play him there. Garrido is not the best but he offers balance down the left something that was blatantly missing from the team today.
Sell Ben Haim back to whoever's daft enough to pay 5 million as all he does is give free kicks away.
Teach your central defenders to pass the ball to a city shirt.
You cannot play Elano in central midfield away from home....he does not work hard enough off the ball and is caught in posession too often.
Ireland,SWP and Evans apart, our movement off the ball is appalling.
Why was Hamman brought on??? If ever our midfield was crying out for movement it was today so you should have brought on Fernandes for the totally static Elano.
Robinho constantly gave the ball away and stays on for the full game.
Time to start earning your money Mr Hughes as this is not good enough and you are getting too many team selections and substitutions wrong.

Hughes has seen this display before ie. Wigan, Newcastle, Boro and he's proving to be tactically naive.
City did not want to win but bolton did and that was what was missing.
He's playing Richards at left wing back, playing elano & robinho who are anonymous again away & evans up front on his own.
We had no leadership or communication from dunne who scored another own goal.
Hughes will have to stop pandering to the players and start managing or he'll won't make the january transfer window.

Hart 5 MOM, Zableta 3 - dismal!, Richards 2 Useless, Dunne 2 - Incomprehensibly woeful, Ben Haim 2, truely dire, Ireland 4 - did very little, Robinho 3 - too col for him, SWP 3 - Useless (no wonder he never played for Chelsea), Evans 2 Absolutely dire..... Sturridge 2 - woeful Sub, Hammann 2 - dismal - couldn't even string two passes together!....Mark Hughes 1/10 - Dreadful yet again.... after spending over £80m to a side that finished top 10 last season, we really are right to expect much better that the utter rubbish we are seeing! Another Weekend ruined....... Relegation Zone are you ready for us?"!!
