Manchester City

Newcastle 2 City 2: Player ratings

6 HART: not overworked at all against a home side with limited attacking threat.

6 RICHARDS: found himself with plenty of attacking space but couldn’t exploit it

5 DUNNE: got crack in the face and was then scored a comic book second for Magpies

5 BEN HAIM: again not the most strenuous of nights but he had thigh in the Magpies leveller

6 GARRIDO: like Richards the full back got forward whenever possible but nothing created

6 ROBINHO: won and scored the penalty and set up Ireland’s goal but otherwise quiet

6 IRELAND: quietest game of the season by a long way until he scored equaliser

6 KOMPANY: comfortable and assured. If only he could have avoided Dunne clearance

6 HAMANN: kept it simple and kept the ball moving before running out of steam a little

5 WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: roughly treated by Bassong who gave him a really hard night

6 JO: didn’t put the physical Newcastle back line under nearly enough pressure

SUBSTITUTES: ONUOHA (for Richards 56) – did no worse than Richards 6

EVANS (for Hamann 63) – plenty of energy 6

STURRIDGE (for Garrido 83) – too late to mark

UNUSED: Schmeichel, Elano, Glauber and Fernandes

BATTLE OF THE BOSSES: Hughes plumped for additional midfield solidity but still could have expected more against ten men. Kinnear in his first home game in charge got fine response

REFEREE: Rob Styles (Hants) – another night of controversy. How long will he survive in top flight? - 4

ATTENDANCE: 45,908

NEWCASTLE: Given, Coloccini, Guthrie, Martins (N’Zogbia 72), Duff, Bassong, Geremi, Beye, Butt, Ameobi (Carroll 78), and Taylor. Not used: Enrique, Cacapa, Harper, Xisco and Edgar

It was a toss up who was our worst player Ben Haim and Jo were dreadful and Richards is just going backwards.A performance like this against 10 men for almost the whole game is just not acceptable. The Newcastle fan's seeing our £50 million Brazilian double act in the flesh must wonder what all the fuss is about!

Sorry but Kompany was shocking tonight in the 2nd half how many unforced errors? Dunne ........ enough said. Only the academy lads did themselves proud tonight. Elano ..... well I've got annoyed at Petrov before but JEEZ this guy takes the biscuit at times. Still considering the 2 unlucky goals conceded got to be content with the point.

City played as if they expected to win without breaking sweat. They don't appear to want to work very hard for things. They didnt actually work at anything until the last ten minutes. The way they worked then showed they could have won easily. Evans again made a difference.

How many of our defenders should be given the Ann Robinson ultimatum - You are the weakest link- Goodbye. Some of the forwards could hear it also.Bojinov, are you nearly fit yet.

absolutely shocking performance.trying to thread everything through the eye of a needle,we look like we will leek goals galore.

6 HART: we need a world class keeper for joe to keep learning from otherwise we will have another nicky weaver.

6 RICHARDS: charging around like an idiot , cant control a ball.

5 DUNNE: never gets a head on our set peices, but not bad in his own net,yet again

5 BEN HAIM: sorry but this guy is abysmal

6 GARRIDO: tried, but to many stray balls

6 ROBINHO: 2nd bad game on the trot.city have a habit of turning class into mediocrety

6 IRELAND: not a bad game best of a bad bunch

6 KOMPANY: thought he was shocking,no composure

6 HAMANN: kept it simple thats all he does
5 WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: gave 100% not his night,nothing came off

comical ratings! robinho 6 - dunne 5! jesus christ. robinho scored a great penalty and a great pass for ireland to score. dunne scored a spectacular own goal and "contributed" to newcastles first.

after the sending off the worst city have played all season

hart 6 average, MR 6, TBH 3, RD 4 Garrido 4, VK 5, Dh 5, swp 8, si 6 rob 6, jo 4.

Mark Hughes - 2. Why not bring elano on at half time, should have told robinho to stay out wide, jo should have come off earlier for sturridge / evans. This is two games from great positions that the players AND the manager have let us down.

sorry forgot to put my own marks out of 10, but who cares.
MANC FROM GREECE,ELANO WASNT PLAYING WHAT ARE YOU ON??

Dunne 1. Dr spock.

pathetic centre half play let again.
Get em on the training pitch Hughes for the next 5 days solid until Stoke come to town.
Cant help with international brakes every five minutes distrupting any continuity that may have been acheived.
Would seriously consider playing Ned on Sunday & binning off Jo in favour of Sturridge.

has dunne scored more own goals than any player in history ?....blah blah blah apologists...but he was player of the year blah blah, yeah and that says more about the crap he played with than it does about him. joke....and apart from his goal ireland was back to his couldnt be arsed mood.......thank go its stoke at the weekend.

This must be the end for Dunne. He is a total liability at this level and it does not matter how many goals we will score this season he will contrive to balance the books.

No one deserved a rating over 5. Ben Haim and Dunne is a bad partnership both 4. We could do with a Vassell or Benjani up front cause Jo is far from ready and Petrov on the left wing is better than Robinho on the left wing, he needs to go up front. We need a class midfielder who can turn games, sadly we dont possess that.
We have learnt how to score and forgot how to defend typical!

It was bad performance but how can you give SWP 5?????????????? he was are best attackin player, yes he couldnt create a goal or anything but he was the player who got on the ball 4 us regular n threatened, so how you can give JO 6 and SWP 5 is beyond me!!

Utter Horror show!

Jo a 6???? He is the most useless player we have had since Corradi! A 3 at most on tonights display.

Then I come to that sweet little Brazilian by the name of Robinho - absolutely dire again tonight- we play with 10 men every match when he is in the side....i only hope he is selling a lot of shirts for us because in another month he will be inventing phantom injuries to avoid playing in the cold!

Totally absymal but great display from Newcastle - we wouldn't be City if we didn't help DOOMED clubs out (ie: Portsmouth two years ago, Fulham last year) TYPICAL TYPICAL CITY - The reason we are typical is Richard Dunne! 5 Years of utterly woeful mistakes - Now Sun has gone Dunne has been exposed!

Poor showing indeed for a world class team. The richest club in the world who will win titles through money. LMAO Sorry, I had to say this. Sometimes being humble gains you more respect than otherwise.

Hart-6 too weak at crosses we need stronger keeper.
Richards-6 Not as good as he thinks he is.Regressing.
Ben-Haim-5 Squad player at best.
Dunne-2 Shocking display again. which cost us the match again!
Garrido-4 Adds nothing.Weak at defending.
Kompany-5 Ineffective.
Hammaan6 Best of the midfield. Not saying much.
Wright Phillips-5 Should have torn them to ribbons.
Ireland.6 He scored.
Robinho 7 Best player on the pitch.Set one up and scored.
Jo- See Kompany. We need two centre forwards.

Bench: Very poor. Hughes: Lacklustre.

I saw Richards up near the Newcastle corner flag a lot, but I didn't see him contributing much.
And Kompany was very poor tonight, as was SWP, Jo, Robinho.
Agreed Ireland took a long time to get out of first gear.
But it was inevitable he was going to be the one to rescue us.

Another pathetic display against a mediocre side. where was the passing game ? when we passed SI scored.
Agree with comments about Dunne recently too many errors. Why did Elano not play 2nd half ? we were crying out for some creativity. Sometimes wonder if Mr Bailey cleans his glasses before watching a game as some of his player ratings beggar belief. The whole back four rated no higher than a 3 and the best player was Didi.

No doubt we will get Tottenhams season back on track in a few weeks.

What top player is going to want to come to us when we play like this?

No one played well and no one was more than a six. Dunne was a 3 TBH a 4, Hammann a 4, Robinho a 5 and Jo a 4. All the rest were 6

That game was made for Robinho at one nil up. He should have been all over the pitch and Hughes should have OK'd that for him.

Hughes made the fatal mistake of not taking a defensive midfielder off early enough as last week he didnt bring one on quick enough.

I think he is a long way from being a top class manager with his decisions in the last few weeks. At one all Elano should have been straight on for the second half.

Very poor night

Two poor outings on the trot, and quite obvious to say this player 5 and 4 etc. What it comes down to is that there is no identity in the team at the moment esp. when Stevie is off a bit (as he was until the last moments).

Each time we run down either flank to the byline, passing back across goal we create our success (necessary since we haven't really controlled the midfield since Jonno was at his peak first half of last season), but tonight we couldn't be bothered to take anyone on and the passes we made were very predictable.

Switch play is impossible without Elano, as he is the only player we have who can make a long pass, so we can't change the point of attack as needed. Not saying Elano would have changed the game coming on at half, but something really should have been done.

And to drop a couple from the side long-term, may I suggest: Garrido isn't good enough and we need a left-sided defender in the worst way. How TBH got into the Chelsea team is a true mystery.

Ben Haim, Dunne and Jo didn't get 6 points in together.. Your a joke of an assesser!!
