Manchester City

Robinho at home in any language

HAVING A LAUGH: Robinho in training with Brazil
ROBINHO has promised to score 10 out of 10 in English as well as for football before his first season at City is through.

The Blues' record signing says he is loving life in Manchester - describing the city as "beautiful."

He has already flown his wife and baby son over from Brazil as he starts house-hunting in the North West.

His next off-field task is to tackle the language barrier, so that he can communicate fully with his team-mates.

Understanding

The former Real Madrid star can speak Spanish as well as his native Portuguese, allowing him to form a neat left-sided grouping with fellow Brazilian Elano and full-back Javier Garrido.

But his attempts at English have been pretty much restricted to translated statements on his official website.

Nonetheless, the 24-year-old has already made plenty of new friends.

He said: "Myself and the other players already have a good understanding.

"The language of football is universal. You don't need to speak the local lingo in order to be able to communicate with a ball.

"Sometimes in training when I shout something, they think it's funny. But they understand me.

"My English so far is two out of 10. I haven't started my language classes yet as I'm still living in a hotel.

"But as soon as I move to my own place, I will have more time for that. In six months' time, my English will be 10 out of 10."

Tour guide

In the meantime, Robinho has been acquainting himself with the delights of Manchester - with Elano acting as his unofficial tour guide.

He added: "I am enjoying Manchester so far. Elano took me for a city tour and I loved it.

"Yes, the weather is an issue. It rains a lot and it looks grey a lot of the time. But I'm getting used to that.

"After what people had been telling me, I feared the worst. I thought I would arrive here and find nothing but wasteland.

"But it's not like that at all. There are fine restaurants and recreational facilities, and the city is beautiful.

"As for the food, I have no problems there. In fact, there is even a great Brazilian restaurant in the city centre. I'm sure to be a regular.

"Since I've been in Manchester, people recognise me all the time in the city. And they have been very kind to me.

"They have been saying really nice things to me and that sort of thing is always a great motivation for a player.

"But my aim is to repay their kindness, and thank the fans by scoring goals, playing well and winning matches."

Has Robinho exceeded expectations so far? Have your say.

Not sure what Ronaldinho has been up to so can't comment. As for Robinho the time to tell is the end of the season.

Sounds like he's planning on being for the long term! I think it was good that Hughes let him fly back to Brazil to finalise bringing is family over here. Hopefully Robinho can silence the critics with goals!

His aim was to get the bucks in the bank and be a very rich man! He signed for financial reasons not football reasons!

So Robinho had been told that Manchester was a "wasteland" eh?? Probably from a bunch of London journalists me thinks!!

Yes unlike other country's capital cities Robinho and the respect they show for their fellow people & regions - the citizens of our own so called "capital" city have absolutely no regard for us, only contemptuous disdain. You'll quickly learn that!

Robinho has come to the right place. I wonder as the season goes on Scolari might just regret missing out on this lad - and at the back of his mind would he not have liked coming to Manchester himself? Lets get the real Ronaldo next.

He is talking about talking about Manchester City centre, which, believe it or not, is very similar to the architecture of Geneva (city centre) imo. So stop slagging off your home - it's that type of negativity that them darn sarf feed off!!!!

Manchester has become a top Euroupean City since the "bomb". Hale, Mere, Knutsford, Prestbury, Alderly Edge etc are as good as anywhere in England to live,
though Langley I must admit is not too clever.

I hate to sound childish but you and your like started it. The dark side is protected from real debate by the MuEN refusung to post 90% of CITY fans comments on your side but allows free rein to any muppet who wants to slag off CITY on our side. We don't mind a proper debate, we enjoy it but to have the same brainless manure wumps allowed on here with the same repetetive purile rubbish rankles. I've managed to get a few posts on your side about certain subjects ( not wind ups but serious points) but I never seem to get the right to reply after that. We are all football fans and we all recognise class but we also recognise injustice over the ease with which you are allowed free rein on the forums and we are not.

Absolutely top post mate. I agree with your whole sentiment and it is one of the reasons I dont go on the dark side.

If you answer a thread on there with what could be termed as good, footballing comment, it normally gets pulled!

This, whilst the muppets are allowed, seemingly, to post here as they wish.

Dave Allen (funny since his faux pas the other day he's run away), Stevi France (funny how he doesnt reply either), seem to be able to publish what they wish.

Roll on the day when MEN, both sides of the website themselves recognise that we are the richest club in the world and our supporters deserve an equal footing to comment!!
