HART: must be sick of the sight of penalties and no chance with Valencia effort
6
ZABALETA: got forward with gusto but the final ball not always of right quality
6
DUNNE: was extremely frustrated with some of the simulation that took place
6
RICHARDS: deep lying Wigan raiders seemed to cause more problems than necessary
6
GARRIDO: a little unlucky with the penalty but why did he make challenge?
6
ROBINHO: no evidence that midweek trip had sapped him but well policed
7
IRELAND: clattered early on and skills swamped by maelstrom in midfield
7
KOMPANY: not easy for him when faced with so many runners and no help
6
ELANO: he passed beautifully at times but at others is too easily by-passed
7
WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: Figueroa was there for taking but never really got going
6
JO: never got clear sight of goal and no surprise that he was replaced by Evans
5
SUBSTITUTES
EVANS (for Jo 74) – perhaps could have come on ever earlier
6
STURRIDGE (for Elano 85) too late to mark
FERNANDES (for Kompany 90) – too late to mark
UNUSED: Schmeichel, Fernandes, Ball, Ben Haim and Hamann
BATTLE OF THE BOSSES: Hughes went for all out attack while Bruce’s flooding of the midfield stifled City just enough to take the spoils against the balance of play
REFEREE: Steve Bennett (Kent) – never seemed to have full control. Some strange decisions - 4

Elano and Robinho 7 - Was I watching a different game?
Do you just roll a dice to come up with these numbers
Think the rating for Jo was spot on...yet again useless! 4million striker with very low workrate
Steve Bennett should be given a minus 10.
Well the referee might have been misfiring but the MEN random number generator seems to be in working order!
Garrido slow and not strong enough. SWP was generally poor, bad first touch and couldnt find a decent pass. The team had little width with swp, rob and ireland getting in each others way. Badly missing Petrov to give us width and balance. Ref had a nighmare, the garrido challenge didnt need to be made, he was running away from goal and Dunne was covering, very poor decision on garrido's behalf which let Bennett make a mistake.Hughes didnt use subs early enough.
Hart - No chance with Valencia goal. Handling dodgy at times - 6
Zabaleta - Coped well. Got forward as often as possible. Getting better with every game - 7
Richards - Struggled at times with Heskay and Zaki, but tried to be positive. Should have closed down Valencia quicker for the goal. Possible, should have had a penalty - 6
Dunne - Good physical contest with Zaki. Also, should have had a penalty - 6
Garrido - Coped OK with Valencia. Got forward well and supplied width - 6
Kompany - Got caught in possession a couple of times, but generally sound. Flukey goal - 6
Ireland - Tried as hard as anyone to create. Got tuck in and carried on good form - 7
Elano - All our attacks started with him. Passing was better than in previous games - 7
Wright-Phillips - apart from a couple of mazy runs and one shot, was very disappointing. Gave the ball away numerous times and provided no width - 5
Robinho - Also very disappointing. Not in the game at all and had to drop very deep to recieve the ball. Needs to do more - 5
Jo - Struggled to make any impression. Didn't hold the ball up very well and needed to be stronger. Will improve - 5
Subs: Evans - Looked sharp when he came on and nearly scored. Should have been on earlier along with Sturridge - 6

Ste, I think as usual, you were! Thought Elano was one of the best players out there for us. Him, Ireland and Zab were the pick of the bunch. We really could've done with some Petrov-esque overlaps to create more on the left. Perhaps Robinho will learn to play a little like that in time so we've got an alternative if MP can't play. And fairplay to Wigan, I thought they defended impressively from the front and Zaki was bloody brilliant. Get him signed Hughsey!
how can you give robinho 7?! he did nothing all day. all are defence hav been given 6 if anything r best couple of players were in defence 2day
Dunne only 6 and the same rating as Richards?
Were you even at the game.
Dunne was having to play the part of two men for most of the game with Richards lucky not to be sent off.
And Robinho hardly featured

Elano made a goal, was very close to scoring an equaliser and had more touches on the ball by some distance than any other player; although he did misplace a few too many.Only Dunne made more passes than Robin, whose passing accuracy was excellent again but his performance was not a match for the bravura display of last weekend.
Speechless that Robinho and Elano get Chris Bailey's highest marks! Their lightweight ineptitude was the reason we lost. Don't want to see them in the same line up away from home again this season.
I said to a mate of mine that Mike Riley's handling of the merseyside derby was one of the worst i've ever seen. Today, Steve Bennetts performance surpassed that. The 1st goal was from a free kick for which he dived, the 2nd from a penalty for which he dived and City were denied certainly one clear penalty (On Dunne 1st half) and maybe a 2nd when Richards was clattered thigh high yet the foul was given against him. It seems attackers can barge into centre backs and get free kicks but the other way round, the 6ft plus attackers throw themselves to the floor and gain free kicks. Respect for referees!!! Don't make me laugh. How can you respect the likes of Bennett, Riley and Styles who get the majority of their decisions wrong week in week out.
WIgan deserved it, 100% effort, hurried, harrassed us and we didnt have enough quality to break them down, we created zero and wigan were far more dangerous.
Hart - 5, shudve at least tried to save it
Zabaleta 6 - decent effort
Garrido 5 - lcks quality
Dunne 5 - gave away free-kick after free-kick
Richards 5 -not impossing himself on games
Kompany 6 - didnt get in game
SWP 7 - tried hard and had a good go, our most effective player
Robinho 5 - everytime he got the ball he stopped passed sideways or backwards, take the man on, thats why e bought u
Ireland 6 - tried to be progressve
Elano - 5 stifled
Jo - 6 woked hard, no service
7 for Robinho!!! For doing what exactly? Can't remember him touching the ball 2nd half. Ireland pick of the bunch yet again.
Blue and White barmy army,Petrov is another who goes missing a lot away from home, and leaves us wide open on his flank.
I thought we played Ok and Elano/Ireland were constantly trying to make it happen. Jo and Robinho were the strugglers today but they will soon learn that for every Portsmouth there is a Wigan.
Hart seemed a bit careless with crosses, but no chance with both goals. Zabaleta played well and Richards improved in 2nd half by going foreward more often. Elano was on the ball a lot, but defensively not the best and he left Kompany too often on his own. Frontline disappointed and although they worked hard, they never seems to get things going.
Bennett? Don't mention him or any refery in the PL. The standard is truly awfull.
Wigan deserved to get something out of this game. They were well organized I thought.
Watch game on the net.
We never got going
our defence struggled to pick up players running from deep.
As far as an attacking out fit we were way off the mark. We has some really good approach play but the final pass was rubish (from all the midfield)
I thought Jo was a bit static although the service was very poor he needs to make few more runs like he did for his goal against pompy.
Were do i start about the ref. They need to realise that repesct is a 2 way thing they continue to ref like he did yesterday then no one will respect them.
It seems to me that unlike Cheski who now they have a rich owner get the big 4 bias. the refs we have has since all the take over seem to want to bring us down.
He was so inconsistant it was untrue.
everytime one of our defenders challenged and there attacker went down they got a free kick, but we got very little at the other end how on earth he gave them a free kick when micah was fould on the edge of the box I do not know. I won't even comment on the penality and the free kick for there first goal as i might blow a fuse
Full marks to Wigan, they battled brilliantly.
I don't agree that the first goal was unstoppable though, Joe Hart watched a shot pass by his post a couple of minutes earlier and if you watch the replay from behind the goal, he did have time to react to the shot for the goal, he just watched it pass by him...... also, why would Joe Hart be fed up of penalties..... did Mr Bailey go to see the game at Brighton and see who was in goal that night?
I always think it is swings and roundabouts with bad refereeing decisions, but yesterdays performance by Mr Bennett was one of the worst I have ever seen. Not only did he give a penalty for a Ronaldo like dive, he then says that City's penalty appeal was two bodies coming together, which it quite clearly wasn't...... he later gives a free kick to Wigan, when Micha Richards beats thier left back and is through on goal and is brought down just outside the box...... Ladies and Gents, sorry for sounding like a Rag or Chelsea fan with this posting
very bad performance by the ref but still not good enough robinho 7 is a joke gave the ball away on numerous occasions and was very lightweight jo again was poor didnt see him at all all game never looked threatening only player for me 2 get any praise was kompany was very good never got much help from elano who wanted 2 play 60 yard balls all the time swp got joy few times needed be more positive deffo had beating of him still dont get why the manager leaves it so late before introducing sturridge he's a proven goalscorer on starting games but then again 19 million has 2 be paid back with goals can u see it happening???????????
If we can Palacios in January. That energy and strength is what we need to support Kompany.
A pretty good game spoilt by awful refereeing from start to finish. Credit to Wigan, as they battled. Thought we might nick a point towards the end, but the Wigan curse continues it seems...
7 FOR ROBINHO THIS IS A JOKE HE WAS RUBBISH.NOT INTERESTED I FEAR FOR THE CLUB HUGHES HAS TO GO.
