Anelka: Beware City

GOAL: Nicolas Anelka scores against City on Saturday
CHELSEA striker Nicolas Anelka feels former club Manchester City could soon be one of the teams to beat in the Premier League.

Spirits are high in the blue half of Manchester following the proposed takeover by the Abu Dhabi-based United Group for Development and Investment and the purchase of Brazil star Robinho on transfer deadline day.

Chelsea managed to spoil Robinho's debut on Saturday, cancelling out his opening goal to win 3-1 with Anelka grabbing the Blues' third.

But the French ace feels it will not be long before City are competing for trophies.

"I was playing against my former club," Anelka said. "I had already scored against Bolton.

"For Manchester City, it was a special match. There had been many changes. A new management. It's positive for them.

"They will improve the team with great players like Robinho who has just signed.

"After Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, we might have another very big team in the league."

Lo and behold, someone NOT slagging of our dear City. Makes a change...

There again Anelka, who gets a bad press has matured into someone with a bit of class, on and off the pitch. And that as well as the fact that he did a good job at City is why I respect him.

Well said Anelka,I think he's after a move back boys?

Is Anelka unsettled at Chelski by any chance?

You may well be right Dublin Blue (lol)!

Unlike some of his previous clubs, he did well for City - and a well liked player at the club too. Thus sad to hear the "idiots" boo him when he was substituted on Saturday. Embarrassing dimwits.

Come back Nic all is forgiven.

can anyone see a bid for gareth barry. in the january transfer window..just a thought, as i thought we were overun in the middle against chelsea..

You should have come back in January, Nic, as you'd agreed, before Chelsea jumped in and made you a better offer. It's nice to be in a position now to repay the favour with Robinho. Still one of my favourite players ever tho'.

I'd take him back in a heart beat. The best striker we've had (alongside the Goat) for a very long time.

The fans that booed him as he got subbed were a disgrace. He was our best top flight gioal scorer for years and that was the reception he got! Obviously the people that booed were the new 8,000 fans.....

Great player who makes scoring goals look so easy, very cool and is blessed with a fantastic first touch. Would be welcome to come back for mine, don`t think he has ever really settled at chelsea and who knows, we`ve already nicked 2 off them!

Another thread---thought JT`s red card recind was wrong, looked all over a red for mine, Jo is going to trouble plenty of good defenders this season and it`s only a matter of time before he gets of the mark, tonite perhaps!

I'd take popularity with the fans over popularity with the scouse wasters of Fowler, McManaman and Barton anyday.

Anelka was a City legend.

i've started to refrain from using the forum as much due in no uncertain terms to people like south manchester mark.... are you really that thick? I'm guessing your either from gorton or your about 19 and anelka is the best player you've seen in a city shirt.... i'm going gorton. The guy is a thatcherite merc, his days are numbered when the drog gets to speed, he;l throw his dummy out in jan for lack of action and some poor sod falls for it everytime. Wouldn't touch him with your alcholic dads. who are ya. Seriously tho.... theirs media spin... and the truth staring you in the face..... he my friend is a bushwacking borat. Jo will eclipse anything he achieved at city, including from the outside looking in, an impressive goal to game ratio.

One of the most pleasant and polite modern day footballers i have ever met.

P-woodhouse gorton.

Couldnt agree more about being overwhelmed in midfield by chelsea.

Don't need Him back here, Vass is on his way back.

Top class striker who i would of liked back last Jan. Dont think we need him now our priority should be a couple of decent midfielders id go for Alonso and Barry in Jan. That would give us the option of playing Kompany at center half when needed alongside Richards.

Windy Miller.....

Fowler would have disliked anyone who he considered was keeping him out of the team, truth is Robbie was horse poo during his time at City, Nic on the other hand is one of the best we`ve had. Nic does usually come with a bit of baggage but his goals make up for it.

Been thinking along the same lines myself. Villa were quite happy to let him go to Liverpool so a bid of £18mill in jan plus the prospect of CL footy in 2 yrs might just get him.

Next we'll have Bentley saying nice things.

I can't believe a Blue read Blobby's autobiography. Sad! Autobiography suggests he actually put pen to paper! Were their many matchstalk drawings?

You can have him back any day, not good enough for the biggest club in world

Mark, you have a short memory mate. We had to get rid of him as he refused to play for us. I for one would boo a player like that every time.

A popular French man, no such thing!
