Hughes: Ireland and Corluka staying

Mark Hughes

MARK Hughes has ended any lingering doubts about where Vedran Corluka and Stephen Ireland will be playing their football this season.

Corluka was close to a move to Tottenham while Ireland was linked with a move to Sunderland, but Hughes has assured fans both will be staying, while at the same time indicating he still has money to spend on new players.

"Vedran and Stephen's futures aer here," said Hughes. "I've made my views very clear to everyone about them.

"Sometimes people won't take no for an answer but Vedran is aware he is staying here.

"As far as transfers are concerned I've been reassured there is money and we are actively pursuing players as we speak."

I know Stephen Ireland is not everyones cup of tea. I do happen to like him. If there is anything bright to come out of city at the moment is the gaffers firm stance on the playing squad. Yozzer i salute you. CTID

This sounds a bit more promising. Good to see Hughes making direct comments which the fans can understand. Cooks comments are just a load of waffle and to be honest I have not seen any value added by him so far!

Well said Mark, and I just hope that other less honourable people at the club do not go behind your back.

Also it seems if we do have money for you to spend, it is not being spent on agreeing a new contract with Michael Johnson? Would be nice to see this one sorted and also Joe Hart

Actions speak louder than words, we will see what happens come the end of the transfer window. I do like the Peter Jones vs Zin Zimmer debate...please keep up the posts lads. I tend to side with Peter Jones' argument and have done for some time but I would like Zin Zimmer's pro club posting to be true.

Contact talks break down again with Johnson.

Generally all good news, but Sky are reporting that Johnson has rejected a new deal and that talks have broken down. I don't know how Johnson can want more money based on half a season in the first team! He was brilliant for the first half of the season and then got injured and didnt play half as well! He still has 3 years on his current deal so for me any bids of around £10m for him and i would get rid, doesn't set a good example to other academy lads to go looking for money, look at SWP! CTID

"Sometimes people won't take no for an answer but Vedran is aware he is staying here"........Does that mean he wanted to go? Or was his agent after a big fat signing on cheque?

I always felt City let David James go too softly, just cos he wanted to be near his girlfriend down south. If your under contract you stay and do your job. Nice one Mark!

Just another Blue, MANCHESTER - spot on about Cooky boy. He talks the talk but he is a marketing man and as such I wouldn't trust him with a barge pole.

Hope you are correct Mark - either way, Hughes is definately earning my respect with the way he is handling this whole situation, and I'll be giving him and his team my 100% support. C'mon you blues.

Dear Mr. Hughes, I appreciate that all these announcements necessary to clarify media speculation are taking away from your main purpose of turning City in to a team competing for trophies, but could you please also make one further announcement stating that Mr. Johnson is also remaining with the club ?

It may save you time if when the squad names and numbers are listed on the club's web site if you can indicate who is for sale and who is not, this would also clarify the situation for media and fans alike.

THANKS.

(Hoope the sarcasm in this is not missed by some of the readers)

Maybe I am Naive or old fashioned, but I find it sad and disappointing that playing for the club that I love and have supported through thick and thin all my life seems to mean so little and taken for granted by so many. Most recently I note Schmeicel in the press saying he never wanted to sign a contract last season and was duped into it by Sven. Then there is Michael Johnson who the club have coached and given him the opportunities he now has turning down a new improved contract doubling his wages. Just wish these guys showed a fraction of the committment of the clubs loyal supporters.

Ste Cheshire, fully agree mate - over the years I have come across a lot of people like Gary Cook who talk a good game, a lot less like Mark Hughes who actually do a good game. I know who I would rather follow. If Gary Cook is a leader of men, so was Charles Hawtrey

glad that's sorted i would like to see our problem areas filled before any new strikers,jo will only miss a couple of games, boj looking sharp, danny, ched, looking to impress, and benji and vass to come back strikers looking ok.if we do get another forward how about a loan deal, and keep what money he has for other areas.i think everyone agrees right mid is most important

Good. Buy some more blue clowns. I am hoping that this might be the season City fields a team that equals (in pounds) the worth of one United player on the bench.

Nice1, nice1, Mr Hughes, although I'm a bit perplexed by the statement:
"Sometimes people won't take no for an answer but Vedran is aware he is staying here".

Does that mean Vedran wanted to move and MH won't let him, or because Tottenham started moaning when MH said "no"?

Anyway, for the record I'm pro Zin Zimmer!

I'm afraid your words mean nothing Sparky - The press will just print what they want anyway ... this will be interpreted as both Ireland & Corluka want to go but Sparky has said if they go I go, there's no money for transfers in and some bloke who once washed Tony Book's car assures the Sun, Mirror etc that City will be in receivership by the time we play Villa. If there really is a mole in the camp then he really does know what's best for the club doesn't her ... Is his name Neville Ferguson by any chance ?? SUPPORT YOUR CLUB SUPPORT YOUR CLUB !

That is something, however now Vassell is out for 10 weeks we may see Bianchi... Or probably not. A striker will now be the only incoming we can realistically expect. My money is on Cisse as he is probably cheaper than Santa Cruz who is not available anyway. Plus he is the only player desperate enough to get in the Premier league to gamble on us. We could try a season long loan. Alternatively lets get Sturridge or Evans involved.

Lets put a bad week behind us tomorrow night and give Mark and the team a tremendous welcome,Ive loved this club for 50 years and nothing will ever change that.

Hughes has said nothing about Johnson in this statement, I take that to mean that he will be leaving sometime very soon.

Can I please ask every blue who can get to the game on Thursday to get there and make a huge amount of noise and show support for the only proper leader currently at MCFC - Mark Hughes. Fill the ground and make noise like the swamp dwellers can only dream of.

Typing on here is one thing, supporting the team and the club at the matches is far more important
