The City chief admitted no deals were imminent, though he has been in touch with executive director Garry Cook over the weekend about his wish-list.
Hughes, who has so far brought in striker Jo and defender Tal Ben Haim, ideally wants a goalkeeper, a left-back, right winger and another hitman before the window shuts at the end of August.
"There's still time for deals," he said after the 2-2 draw at Stockport on Saturday.
"We've got a month until the window closes so it's important we take our time and pick the right guys to come in and supplement the quality that I already have.
"As we stand, there's not one deal that's imminent. You never know though because these things can happen very quickly."
City continue to be linked with a number of players most notably versatile 24-year-old Moroccan international Michael Chretien from Nancy who is also being chased by Spain's Real Betis and would cost between £3 and £4million. The Blues have also been linked with a loan swoop for former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse.
Which position is in most need of strengthening? Have your say.

No to Cisse. If Boj is fit then I am not too worried in that department. Nicky Shorey is on the move apparently, is he any good? I haven't seen much of him. For the 1 millionth time we need a LB, CM, RW.
Who let the Boj out?
Everyone can see what we need. I presume Yozzer can. I will settle for a Left back and a wide right midfielder before the season starts
Maybe they not sure about money side of m/city if thaskin is found guilty in one case, there is so many cases coming up. He will have to sell shares of m/city if found guilty. Not forget wording fit person.
I hope some of these names are just paper talk, because at the minute we are being linked with pure dross, the type of players that arn't going to excite the fans and arn't going to push us on as a club. I watched the Arsenal v Real Madrid game yesterday, and the skill of some of those Arsenal kids puts a lot of Premier League players to shame, they play the game as it should be at this level, with fluid passing that is a joy to watch, and if City can emulate that I for one would be more than happy.
Since the Ronaldinho pantomine I sense a feeling of deflation .
I will trust what Bluesy has to say but I think there is an under current of things not looking too rosy .
Does anybody else get this ??
CTID
I agree with Hughes that panic buys are a bad idea but abstaining from the market for so long will see us miss out on some of the top players that are available- look at spurs, they have brought in a mass of talent and I can see them taking the league by storm next year, as much as I hope I'm wrong I think we need to take a leaf out of old Juande's book and strengthen fairly quickly, the time for mulling transfer targets is over- we need signings soon before we're left with the bottom of the barrel
NO RUSH..........is he kiddin....we are shockin i seriously think we will struggle for top ten...the team has no balance and there are a lot of players mainly forwards who should not be at our club....Come on SParky get a grip and sign some players....IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY THAT IS
Shorey or Warnock, Alonso and SWP.
Pace and a stronger midfield(physically)or we will get turned over week after week.
Face the facts your skint no money in the pot another gimmick to keep you lot quiet is Ronaldo rumours, I keep reading on your pages " City champions of Manchester " what a laugh did you get any medals in The Premier last year ? no thats that settled, but come on you berties hand on heart CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND AND CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE or bitters double which would you prefer come on be honest I can guess what the majority of you losers will post.
No rush means NO MONEY! Cisse on loan........no thank you. It's all to do with the goings on in Thailand............for pity sake just be honest and come out and tell the truth then we won't have our hopes crushed once again. We understand that Dr T is fighting for his money and freedom and if that means we have a cash flow problem until it's sorted then so be it but just tell us stop coming out with all this waiting game crap! we aren't children we will understand. City please come clean and stop the excuses. If it's no money until it's over just say so.........we've hung on for 30+years we can hang on a bit longer but don't con us and don't treat us like mugs!TELL IT AS IT IS!
I honestly don't think Hughes has much money left in the pot, otherwise why wait after all he would have been targeting certain players whilst he was at Blackburn.
He's already said Jo was one of his targets at Blackburn.
I agree we shouldn't but rushing to buy for the sake of it,but if were not carefull we will be left with the dreggs.
Underwhelmed. Have to admit that I'm not expecting much this season.
JOAQUIN
LORIK CANA
TAYE TAIWO
MILITO
A.S.A.T!!!
Its alright being patient, but most of the decent players that want to, have already moved. Even Sven wasn't this laid back.
I've asked this earlier, does anybody know any more about the Sky report saying we have to play in the Carling Cup less than 48 hours before the first leg of the Uefa cup and 4 days before the Villa game? Sounds ridiculous to me, none of the other European entries have to do it.
On the face of it there is both good news and bad to be had here. Not rushing into anything is an eminently sensible stance, as evidenced by the 5.2m wasted on Master Caciedo, and Hughes is right to want to take a good look at what he's got already, before investing in new faces.
However, the clock is ticking, and as deadline day approaches so clubs become increasingly reluctant to sell.
What concerns me most is the statement that there are no deals imminent. Given that the likes of Shorey, Alonso, SWP and Lennon are not only out there, but widely touted as being available as well, it tends to suggest that we do not have the funds to shop domestically. At the risk of repeating the same thing yet again, both the preseason friendlies and the Streymour ties have shown us that Caciedo, Bianchi, Ball and Fernandes are not good enough, and all need replacing. If Roma are willing to cough up 10m for Elano, I'd take that as well, and use the money for reinvestment. The longer we leave it, the harder it will be to recruit. Tick tock.
At least a left-back, please. NOW!
At least a left-back, please. NOW!
I think that "Mr promise the earth" Cook should come out and tell us what effect Thaskin's imprisonment will have on our club and why we are not more active in the transfer market.
I smell a rat and a season of struggle.
come off it mark. no rush into the transfer market! you need to buy soon! or do you prefer to wait until the end of the month and buy whatever is left on the shelf at overinflated prices
I have to agree with some of these comments. I am a little concerned, we really don`t seem to have moved on from what we saw at the end of last season. Having seen both the Arse and the Spuds this weekend, we are looking light years behind. You begin to wonder whether behind the scenes we are struggling for money, having looked at the Asian press, I think the good Dr T could be in deep trouble. I think it is apparant that we are desperately short in midfield and we must get some new faces in before the start of the season otherwise we are going to be over-run in that department our ball retention and also someone to win the second ball and shield the back four is critical, (and a new left back is a must). Boj returning is a bonus and could be like a new signing and lets hope Jo comes back from the olympics fit and sound. Sturridge and Evans are looking better prospects by the day.
After a promising start Gary Cook has been very silent (yes I know he has been in the States). I have taken to Mark Hughes but surely he must see the glaring deficincies we have, at the moment we have one option and one way of playing and that is through Martin Petrov.
Portsmouth, Villa, Spuds have all managed to strengthen. I think a top ten finish is going to be a stretch at the moment, I hate to be saying this but I am getting a little worried. Can anyone shed any light on what the real position with the club is and we will make any signings??
12 days until the season starts no rush, who are we kidding.Need at least 3 quality players or i am afraid its going to be the usual dross. Latest rumour Cissie on loan only proves we have no money for Santa. We wait with baited breath.
Take time, no panic buys! MuEN clearly have no clue as to who he might be signing as they can't even get all the positions right that we are supposed to be strengthening. Missed out defensive midfielder altogether. Any names, at this stage, are pure speculation and I doubt we will have a clue who isto be signed until they are announced by the club, or like TBH, are as good as joined.
In other words there is no money to spend in which case never mind the top 4,I cant see city competing with Everton,Spurs Portsmouth,Villa etc.
Mick the red fireman why do you feel the neeed to post on our message boards is it because none of your fickle fans live in Manchester or are not articulate enough to use a PC. Go and put some fires out.
