KELVIN Etuhu (pictured) stepped up his push for a first team place by proving his fitness in the reserves' 1-1 draw at Southport on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Nigerian striker has been suffering with knee trouble, but played 72 minutes of the friendly game at Haig Avenue.

Manager Mark Hughes used the fixture to take a look at the promising members of last season's FA Youth Cup-winning team, and Shaleum Logan also proved a point by playing 72 minutes.

The Sandgrounders took an early lead and, after being repeatedly denied by Southport keeper Steven Drench, the Blues finally levelled in the closing stages when Ian daly's shot was parried for substitute James Poole to finish.

He looked good and commited in the few chances he had coming on as sub.would like to see him given a run

I would see how he does during pre-season then send him out on loan.Is he a centre forward or a right winger? I believe he is a centre forward and should be played there!

My feeling is he's a top Championship player at best but I hope the lad proves me wrong and I'll be supporting him next year!

He was a good right winger when he played for us and should be given a chance in the first team, as this is the only test. Logan is quality and should definitely be in the first team. He is the best person for the right wing spot that we have right now and can play either right or left back.
