The Blues have been forced to seek a temporary `home' venue for the UEFA Cup first qualifying round next month because the Eastlands pitch will still be recovering from summer boxing and concerts.
Initially, the Blues targeted Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium but then switched their sights to Preston North End's Deepdale home.
But it appears that the Lancashire Constabulary had some misgivings leaving City to leap back across the Pennines for a ground.
It now appears that Barnsley's Oakwell will be that ground - a venue where they have enjoyed mixed fortunes.
The last time City visited Barnsley, under Kevin Keegan, they won 3-0 with a team that contained former boss Stuart Pearce.

Why not Bolton or Wigan? Even at a push Stockport, i'd rather be at a full edgeley park than an empty Barsley.
Blimey, is like a scene from Independance Day that photo is. Earth is about to collide with Mars but the Oakwell faithfull remain unstirred.
Not the brightest of ideas, it is bad enough over The Snake Pass at the best of times..... if City do get Ronaldinhio, there could be 20,000+ trying to get over to Barnsley.
If Goofy does sign it may be a good move not to play him for this one.
Whats wrong with Hough end.?
Why are they not using the athletics stadium next to the ground?
Must be able to get 10K in there at least
The last time I visited Barnsley we got beat 2-1 and the crowd were making racist comments to the Goat! Crappy little stadium in a crappy little town.... What's wrong with Hough End?
Any real news this morning?
I want to know who we are signing not where we are playing a pub team in the 1st qualifying round of the UEFA.
I had hoped after the manager situation was sorted I would relax and become more patient however now thats sorted its all about the transfers and again I am far from relaxed and I am definitely impatient!
This dramtic landscape of the Barnsley football club resembles Edvard Munch famous painting called the scream.
Whats wrong with the Reebok?
Dougiefresh, I woke up this morning with your weekend prediction in my head.
Today is the day you said ronaldinho will sign for city. Dougie mate, thats a bold prediction. You said "my head is on the forum block"
Heres waiting for goofy or your head to roll!! lol
A brilliantly insightful article! Another diamond uncovered, well done!
Trivia time:
Name three players that played in the premiership in the 2007/08 season that won European Cup medals in 1995?
apocalypse now
I never thought about Hough End.... or what about Ten Acres Lane, just down the road from CoMS.
I remember having my nose splattered all over my face as i won a brilliant header on the astroturf pitch there around 18 years ago...... the annoying thing was, the lad that did it, was on my own team, he completely mistimed his jump.... and what are the chances of this, he was a one armed United fan, yes, you guessed it, he came from London!
My sinuses are still knackered to this day.

Bolton? Wigan?

I don't know if i have the right year or team but here goes to your trivia question.
The team Ajax the players in question were they Van Der Sar, Kanu, Litmanen? and also Musampa and Kluivert as ex-prem players played in the same game but not in the prem 2007-2008.
Kanu is one
Van der Sar, Kanu, Litmanen
No premier league club (eg Bolton) will mess up pitch relaying for a few grand. I honestly believe they should play it at the athletics stadium with 5000 there. Dragging people over the pennines is unsustainable.
Ans:
Kanu, Van Der Sar & Litmanen (signed for Fulham in the Jan window)
Actually, Litmanen only played a reserve match which makes me a complete liar!
Sorry folks but at least it was more interesting than "Barns-storming Blues" eh??

Stockport is a good idea - it I'll be home from home for many city fans!!
What about Edgeley Park, home of SCFC/Sale Sharks ?. Before any Utd wags get on here to suggest it would be just as good as a home game, may I state that I live in Stockport along with thousands of City fans !
Stockport is well and truly blue !!. And proud of it.
