CITY are preparing to wrap a spectacular transfer gift for their new manager - Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho.
The Blues are hoping to secure the services of Blackburn boss Mark Hughes after meetings between the parties on Monday night, and owner Thaksin Shinawatra is also planning an audacious swoop for the Barcelona ace as planning for next season moves into full swing.
Blues representatives are reported to be have set up a meeting with Ronaldinho at his home in Brazil this week, and Shinawatra is intent on securing an all- Brazilian strike force by pairing the two-time World Footballer of the Year with CSKA Moscow man Jo.
Ronaldinho's brother Roberto de Assis has already been in Thailand to meet Shinawatra's right-hand man Pairoj Piempongsant, while the Blues' new chief executive Garry Cook has strong ties with the Brazilian from his previous job as brand president at Nike, which is the player's major sponsor.
Sources in Spain indicate that the 28-year-old may be seeking a move from Barca, where he has argued with coach Frank Rijkaard and missed much of last season through injury.
Rise
He is said to want a huge pay rise to £200,000 a week from any clubs willing to buy his services. That kind of money would shatter the English record of £135,000 a week currently earned by Chelsea pair John Terry and Frank Lampard.
That kind of money would also destroy City's wage structure, but the Blues could work out a deal tied to global shirt sales - Ronaldinho recently topped a poll of Asian football fans ahead of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo as the world's top player.
The imponderable factor in the move is the reaction of Hughes, who is mulling over a move to Eastlands, but may not appreciate what appears to be a transfer bid driven by the board.
Do you think Ronaldinho would join City - and would you want him? Have your say.

Whatever people say about paying someone £200k p/w the reality is he would make us more money than this in shirt sales so his wages are almost irrelevant. This is Ronaldinho for Gods sake, I cant believe we have a chance of securing his services.
For me this signals Thaksins intent and hopefully the Save Our Sven campaigners are starting to see our owners ambitions for the club and can start to give Thaksin the break he deserves!
It is common fact that the top teams in Europe have the board/chief executive identify the transfer targets and the manager/coach has little say in the matter his job is to merely get the best out of the players the club buys. While it is an unusual step for a British club to take if the board are indentifying targets such as Ronaldinho and Jo I am all for the change!

Other City players may feel its a little unfair but when Michael Ball or Vassell reach the kind of heights that Ronaldinho has they too can ask for a pay rise.
If we want the best now then we have to pay more than we would really like much like Chelsea did in the early days of Abramovich, unfortunately thats the way it is but I am all for it if it means we can sign WORLD CLASS players!

If I was Frank I would push for a decision before the end of the day if this is the case and not leave Chelsea calling the shots, if none is forth coming then we don’t want him end off, that way if Chelsea decide other wise then Hughes is in the brown stuff with no where to turn, do we really want him if he has asked to speak to us and then hangs around to see if Chelsea are interested ?
Maybe I am wrong but I would not want him under those circumstances, still it could all be rubbish and he will be unveiled as our manager this evening.
