Manchester City

Sven's packing his bags

AN official announcement confirming the departure of Sven-Goran Eriksson from Eastlands is expected early next week.

Senior City sources have indicated that the situation is unlikely to be allowed to drag on until June 15 as was suggested by owner Thaksin Shinawatra's senior aide Pairoj Piempongsant earlier in this week.

The Blues boss will receive a pay-off equating to six months salary, around £1m, and will then be free to pursue alternative jobs - including coach of Mexico.

Until his sacking by Shinawatra is signed and sealed, the Swede is still contracted to City and, by the letter of the law, unable to have official talks with anyone. Shinawatra is currently thought to be in Indonesia.

Despite the efforts of his long-time agent Athole Still to distance his client from any illegal approaches, it seems clear that - if there is no role at Chelsea - Eriksson has a job waiting for him in Central America should he choose to turn his back on club football for the second time.

His friend and mentor Tord Grip and assistant boss Hans Backe will leave City with Eriksson. The position of first-team coach Derek Fazackerley and fitness coach Stefano Marrone are also under review as Shinawatra makes the sweeping changes he believes with improve the Blues from a ninth place side.

The former Thai Prime Minister, who is thought unlikely to perform an 11th hour u-turn on his decision to relieve Eriksson of his duties, is still awaiting a definitive answer from Portugal chief Luiz Felipe Scolari about whether he is prepared to take over in the hot seat.

Other than the recently deposed Chelsea chief, Avram Grant, feasible alternatives appear thin on the ground.

Shinawatra, though, cannot wait too long to announce a successor with the Blues due to be in pre-season action in just five weeks time and scheduled for their entry into the UEFA Cup in fewer than seven weeks.

In relation to that UEFA campaign City are actively seeking to hire a ground for the home leg in the first qualifying round while the Eastlands pitch is recovering from a series of summer events including boxing and concerts.

It was thought that Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium was the favoured destination but City are understood to be trying to keep the tie on this side of the Pennines and, with Old Trafford and the Reebok ruled out, favour moving the match to Preston.

"Senior City sources have indicated that the situation is unlikely to be allowed to drag on until June 15"

this is your Quote MEN, but this is weak, who are they, put some substance toi the story instead of just putting out the usual speculation.

don't suppose this will be shown anyway but at least someone will read it and do nothing about it.

Same story with the words in a diffrent order, roll on next week

Hmmm Mexico in central America, has it moved? last time I checked it was in North America...just below Texas...

I'm finding it hard to believe anything regarding this anymore, this is because nobody (certainly not in the press) knows what is going on. Even when an official comes out and says it'll be the 15th of june, less than a day later it is a different story, which doesn't suprise me.

why not play it at mellands football pitches. or fog lane... as for the way things are being done. if we are to believe what's being said in today's papers. we wont have a side to play with anyway. apart from the youngsters. dont care what anybody says. it should not have dragged on this long. we seem to once again be the laughing stock of the football world. and i
see its all gone quite again on the jo and ronaldinho signing. its got to the point. where im begining to not care what happens at this club. because they dont seem to give a f..k. about the only thing that should matter to them . THE FANS. because frank you can come out with all this sh..e. about who you are going to sign. and how much you are going to spend. but fans are not stupid. and without the fans. you dont have a club... so think on. before its to late.

I wonder if senior City source actually means Paul Tyrrel?

As for the rest of the story, if true it just proves how much of a mess our club is in. In a few weeks time we will need a whole new backroom staff.

"thought to be in Indonesia" - you can't even find out where the City chairman is?

Farcical on all sides.

No matter who we get in it's going to be a tough season.

I was gutted when we lost out on Ramos last year and now even more so. It looks like Spurs could be fighting for a top 4 spot never mind top 6.
Their squad is shaping up.

This is a disaster. Even if Scolari comes he won't arrive until early July - a few weeks before we are due to start in the UEFA qualifying round. With news that Dunne and Johnson are on the way out signalling a mass exodus at City it looks really bad. Shinawatra better have a manager lined up otherwise he'll be as popular as an alsatian curry at Battersea Dog's Home!

Has anyone enquired about getting there season ticket money back?. Granted it is all paper talk about possible depatures however if Dunne and Johnson were to go i will be asking for my money back. I may not be the only one. Once again we are a laughing stock. Great fans who are constanly S*** on

The facts that the MEN dont seem to want to publish for some reason are that Sven said his goodbyes at Carrington prior to going on tour, Hans Backe cleared his desk at weekend and Tord Grip hasnt been seen at the club since the day after the Middlesbrough game-should we do your job for you guys at the MUEN?

I am a season ticket holder and have renewed my season ticket for next year however I can understand anyone that wishes to give up their ticket after this fiasco. The thing that annoys me most with this whole saga is that the club (in general) have just left the fans in the dark. That is no way to treat your fans. A statement, even if it said nothing would at least show that they care but that is not the vibe I am getting at the moment. I am pro Sven, but I am not anti Thaksin (I respect what they both have done for us so far) but the fact that the 'Good Doctor' hasn't made a statement makes me ask the question, does he respect the fans? Some people have said that he has his own problems in Thailand, fair enough, but a quick nod towards the people at the club and they could have released a statement on his behalf. I am not taking sides in the Sven Vs Thaksin saga as, like many others, I dont know the full story and I don't like to comment on things that I don't know about (some on here don't seem to think like that), however I am sick to death of this club. It hurts inside when I read reports about Dunne, Johnson and Hart etc leaving, but Thaksin and his merry band of followers don't seem to get that. Well, either they don't get it or they just don’t care.

So I bid thee farewell until next season. I am tired of worrying about City when City doesn't worry about me. I will be there at the first game, cheering on my Blues and I will wait until that day to see who will be stood in the dug-out and who will be on the pitch. Until then, I bid thee farewell. Have a lovely summer and take care.

This is a non-story in a sense: it is now common knowledge that Sven left his hotel at the weekend. Also the statement from the Thai board member said that everything will be sorted regarding the club by the 15 June. This statement did not refer specifically to Eriksson. Yet many people seemed to interpret this as meaning Sven could still be in charge until the 15th June.

We can all see what is going to happen. Mr Cook from Nike is being paid a fat wad to be Frank's day-to-day CEO of the company. He starts his job on 1st June. Nothing will happen until the new CEO starts. His first task will be to sack Sven and say "this is a new start for MCFC" or words to that effect. Then he will start a review of the club and how to take them forward, and (surprise, surprise) when the Euros finish Scolari will be unveiled as Mr Cook's choice as manager.

This delay that the fans are getting so impatient about will be regarded as worth it in the long run to make sure the right decisions have been taken.

What's wrong with the senior City sources, getting twitchy?? Try being a fan attempting to make head nor tail of it all. Nice though that somebody close to the club is making the effort to let us know what's happening, if we can believe the MUEN. I for one, after all this speculation and review of performance expect nothing less than the following................, Big sharpe intake of breath.., Big Phil, followed by his list of players that somebody else is working on, a Nike team kit, lots of the fringe players leaving opening up wage cash reserves for players that can, 6 points off that lot, win the league cup, FA cup final appearance, Semi final of the UEFA Cup, a Top 5 Finish and most importantly some nice football to watch. The futures bright, the futures City. (anybody taking bets????)

Mr. Bailey !!

Which law is that ?

"Until his sacking by Shinawatra is signed and sealed, the Swede is still contracted to City and, by the letter of the law, unable to have official talks with anyone. Shinawatra is currently thought to be in Indonesia.
"

Since when has it been unlawful to negotiate other business ?

As for the report itself ...
Who cares anymore ?

Very good.

In Sven we trust that he will get $$$$ everywhere he goes.

If you are going to sack him do it already. I am big fan of Sven but more importantly I am a fan of our team.

If there is an "exodus" of players we will be taking two steps back.

Thaksin, out and make a definate decision

Geolives, manchester - We had the discussion about where Mexico is last week. It caused quite a stir.

But I certainly agree with you that Mexico is in North America.

As for City not waiting until the 25th, that was obvious to a blind man juggling.
