Bolton eye Mpenza swoop

FORGOTTEN City striker Emile Mpenza could resurrect his flagging Premier League career with Bolton.

Gary Megson needs to bolster Wanderers' firepower next season and Mpenza wants regular first-team action.

Despite just six goals since signing for the Blues in January 2007, the former Belgium international is not short of admirers.

But Mpenza, soon to be out of contract, is in limbo until the club announces its retained list.

He is one of a number of players set to leave Eastlands, with Rolando Bianchi, Georgios Samaras and Paul Dickov all bound for the exit doors after going out on loan.

Captain Richard Dunne and striker Valeri Bojinov are other possible departures, while out-of-contract defender Sun Jihai has been touted for a move to top-flight new boys Stoke City.

The Blues are set for a summer clear-out as owner Thaksin Shinawatra looks to drive on with his dream of bringing Champions League football to Eastlands by 2010.

Start

Mpenza has long since been expected to leave City after failing to build on a bright start to the season.

He had struck three goals for the Blues by the end of September, but has not scored since, and has played just 16 minutes of first-team football since the end of January.

Mpenza's agent Rachid Tajmout has admitted that the striker is on his way out of Eastlands.

"Because Emile wants to stay in England, I am negotiating with Bolton in the Premier League, two clubs in the Championship, Reading and Ipswich, as well as Leicester, who have been relegated," he said.

"Trabzonspor, who almost signed Mpenza before, are still in the running."

Mpenza turned down the chance to move to Leicester on loan in March, and is unlikely to consider a move to the Walkers Stadium now that the Foxes have dropped into League One.

Reading and Ipswich might present more realistic possibilities, but the 29-year-old wants to stay in top-level football, putting Bolton in pole position.

Not surprised Mpenza will be departing. Despite not scoring many, the goals he scored in Pearces last season may well of been the ones that kept us up. There will be uproar if Dunne goes

Agree with these sort of sales. Mpenza,Mills,Bianchi, samaras etc. Deadwood clogging up the team. Several more to go aswell please.

Dear oh dear. The rumours of us selling off the squad continue. OK, Mpenza is no great loss and I can live with selling Dunney, but if Johnno goes I have grave concerns...........

I am a season ticket holder and have renewed my season ticket for next year however I can understand anyone that wishes to give up their ticket after this fiasco. The thing that annoys me most with this whole saga is that the club (in general) have just left the fans in the dark. That is no way to treat your fans. A statement, even if it said nothing would at least show that they care but that is not the vibe I am getting at the moment. I am pro Sven, but I am not anti Thaksin (I respect what they both have done for us so far) but the fact that the 'Good Doctor' hasn't made a statement makes me ask the question, does he respect the fans? Some people have said that he has his own problems in Thailand, fair enough, but a quick nod towards the people at the club and they could have released a statement on his behalf. I am not taking sides in the Sven Vs Thaksin saga as, like many others, I dont know the full story and I don't like to comment on things that I don't know about (some on here don't seem to think like that), however I am sick to death of this club. It hurts inside when I read reports about Dunne, Johnson and Hart etc leaving, but Thaksin and his merry band of followers don't seem to get that. Well, either they don't get it or they just don’t care.

So I bid thee farewell until next season. I am tired of worrying about City when City doesn't worry about me. I will be there at the first game, cheering on my Blues and I will wait until that day to see who will be stood in the dug-out and who will be on the pitch. Until then, I bid thee farewell. Have a lovely summer and take care.

Good luck to him. He's not done much wrong really and never really got a fair crack of the whip. Sure, he's no world beater but his efforts have been very valuable to us, especially under Pearce when we came in and gave a bit of energy and bite to the attack. Although he looked capable as a lone striker, I think with a partner up front he'd prosper.

If he stays fit Emile will be a good purchase for Bolton. He just has had too many injuries at City and another striker who didnt always find it easy playing in the one up front system. Emile kept us up the other season so that cannot be forgotten! More and more stories again today with the press convinced Dunne to spurs for £5m. I dont want to see Dunne go, but its probably his last opportunity of big pay day, he is big mates with Robbie Keane also. As he is approaching his last year which is ridiculous for someone who has won so many player of the years we really are in no position to stop him and its best to get some money rather than nothing. I however would be very annoyed if Johnson left because he is a talented player and also it would be a major kick in the teeth from someone we brought through the ranks. I dont want us to get rid of any of our youngsters and that included Ireland who gets unfair abuse on here, speaking of which I still see idiots on here having a go at Caceido! Give the kid a chance for gods sake. Spurs have already nicked 1 player I wanted at City in Modric, looks like they are now getting another in Dos Santos, and Dunne to boot will make them a very strong force next year. Franky boy, you better pull some nice rabbits out of the hat soon!

Kippax Kid - sorry you feel that way, but can you not see the bigger picture? Scolari has made it quite clear he does not want any public announcement before the Euros have finished. We know from the England job that he is a determined negotiator who will not be railroaded by the UK media. If City tried to appease the fans by publicly discussing Scolari they run the risk of losing him. Do you really want that just for the sake of 4 weeks in "limbo" as you call it. I know a lot of fans feel like yourself but in the grand scheme of things 6 weeks of limbo is nothing is it?

Bojinov leaving? that puzzles me because he really hasn't had a chance what with his injury and being out so long Thaksin's advisers have probably stated that he was a bad buy in the first place. SGE is packing his bags now and in retrospect his reign has turned out to be one of sheer disappointment forget about 9th place and certainly beating United twice it counted for very litte and because of their double (another one) they have gone further away from us in terms of success and financial clout they have become bigger since Glazer took over and to imagine we were all laughing awaiting a 'BIG FALL' MCFC in contrast are in crisis again but thankfuly we might just have the man (TS) to sort it out. SUPPORT Mr SHINAWATRA ....

Those cup winning youngsters of ours must be really good, if we continuously keep selling off the more experienced ones.

It would be great to have a completely home grown team.

The Premiership is really split into three mini-leagues.Mpenza due to his lack of pace is in my opinion only good enough to play for those teams in the lower league of the Premiership.Unfortunatly For City we have too many similar players!

Emil is a descent player who scored a few important goals but, we have to many strikers and someone has to go. As far as Dunne is concerned, we were short defenders last year, all it would of took was an injury to sun jihai, and we would have been watching a "mills" in action. We better have a replacement lined up to go with the left back and right back we already needed.

I had great hopes for Emile when he signed for us & I'm grateful for his goals last season which undoubtably helped us stay up.

I don't think he's been given a fair crack & think he'd have scored more goals if he'd had a partner & better service, but then so would all our other strikers.

He doesn't quite have enough quality to justify keeping him if we want to progress, but he could be a good player for Bolton, Stoke, Hull, etc.

Good luck Emile . . . . cheers

Anyone wonder what would of happened if City had wingers like Beagrie and Summerbee?. Remember Quinny, Walsh and Rosler and the 5-2 win over the spuds.

Apart from City player's whose contracts have run out,who at City are empowered to conduct transfer negotiations with agents or other clubs who are interested in buying current in contract player's from City.Is our "NEW" manager pulling strings from behind closed doors. Are player's who interest City given the "NEW ONES" name but not allowed to reveal it.The plot thickens day by day.
