SVEN-GORAN Eriksson will leave Manchester City by the end of the season, sources confirmed today.
It is understood that the relationship between club owner Thaksin Shinawatra and Swedish manager Eriksson has become "irretrievable".
Eriksson is expected to stay in charge for the last two games of the season and today told MEN Sport: "I had a meeting with Dr Thaksin and his people on Sunday morning and at this moment with two games to go in the season I don't want to make any comment about that.
"There are no more meetings planned until the season is over. I appreciate the backing of the fans which I have felt since the day I arrived. I thank them very much. But now we are just focusing on trying to beat Liverpool on Sunday."
Eriksson's future role at Eastlands has been uncertain in recent weeks since Shinawatra publicly expressed his dissatisfaction at how City's season has fallen away.
City spokesman Paul Tyrrell told
www.mcfc.co.uk: "Dr Thaksin Shinawatra recently stated that there would be a full review of the club at the end of the season. The situation remains the same. Sven-Goran Eriksson, the players, board and staff of the football club are fully focused on the two remaining games of the current campaign."
Fans have reacted angrily to the news that Eriksson is poised to leave, given the rare glimpse of success that the manager has brought City this season.
The Blues were in contention for a Champions League place until a mid-season slump, and had they not let a two-goal lead slip against Fulham at the weekend, a European slot would still have been firmly on the agenda. They also did the double over United - a feat not completed since the 1969/70 season.
However, it seems a series of flat performances in the new year - during which City were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United - has cost Eriksson dear.
What do you think? Have your say.

Frank needs to be made aware of the strength of feeling over this. At this rate, I will be pushing up the daisies before City win another trophy.

If he leaves now then thats the final nail in the coffin for the club. We've lost control to a man who knows nothing about football and the culture of Manchester City.
I feel very sorry for Sven. He has shown this year what a great manager he is. I feel ashamed of the attitudes of Mr Shinawatra and a small section of our fans.

Sven is our best hope of turning around a dire 30 years in the clubs history.
I must say though I think Frank wants a full stadium???? well sacking Sven will not get this.
Fans are behind Sven, if he is sacked not sure I will renew my Citycard and I have supported City since I first went to a game in 1969.
I back Sven 100%, think there could be a player exodus if this happens as they seem to back Sven.

I am very worried now. What manager is going to work for a club whos owner clearly sticks his oar in? Thats why Mourinho left Chelsea. Does anyone in their right mind think that Mourinho or anyone like him will come to City knowing that Frank wants a front row seat in the running of the team?
Before its too late Frank, back off, let the manager manage and you get on with business side of the club.
Unbelievable

I really thought we were on to something here for the first time since god knows when.I was wrong.
So now what? New coach,of course he won't want any of Sven's buys will he? Which means another complete overhaul of all staff. Start from scratch again.THIS CLUB
IS A JOKE.

If Sven goes and we don't do much better next season that we did under Sven, which is a real possibility if we disrupt things, then the fans will get angry.
We are a much better team than last year and our progress has been fantastic under Sven & Dr Shinawatra. Why change? Our 2nd half slump just showed that we need more strength and quality in depth, and we still will get a top half finish.
I wouldn't blame Sven for just walking away. Trouble is, I think Dunnie would walk too. Get it together Frank, come out and support the guy who YOU appointed as YOUR choice to take us to the top OVER 3 YEARS!
GORB, MANCHESTER (29/04/2008 at 09:29)
sven needs time,3 years minimum.if he goes it will be a very sad day for this club as we will lose the best manager we have had in ages.
frank needs to take a back seat as theres not a lot that sven doesn't know about running a football team,he has proved it time and time again in different countries.
frank has the money (alledgedly)but not the soccer knowhow or contacts.leave sven to do his part of the 3 year plan.1st year was to finish in top ten,job done.sven needs to be left alone to sort out all soccer related issues including possible transfer targets and who picks the team.
sven had great support on saturday as fans appreciate what a good manager he is and the progress he and the team have made, left alone he could become a great manager for city.unfortunately,i dont think he will be the manager of mcfc next season.its our loss, not his.

i also agree with alot of comments regarding stability, we just haven't had for so many years, you cannot build a team in 1 year and expect miracles, without going over all the names all the succesful clubs have had stability and money to spend.
i believe sven is moving us in the right direction and if indeed he does leave then i will not be happy about it at all and if you think that Big Sam Allardyce SCOLARI will do better and provide flowing attractive football then think again, even Mouriniho didn't provide that at chelsea hence why he was replaced, the chairman thought he was boring even though he did win things.
just hope this is sorted soon as i am sick of city being paraded around the press as being in turmoil all the time.
MEN get into the club and be journalists istead of just leaching on to all the other stories from other sources, the M does stand for MANCHESTER doesn't it?
SouthStand (29/04/2008 at 09:30)
Lets have a bit of realism. Chelsea investment maybe 2 or 3 times as much money as we did, and had a far better squad to start with - that's why they were able to challenge for Europe/league and we weren't. Sven wasn't the reason.
Replacing Sven....mmmm, what does that bring? well firstly, removal of one of the most successful club managers ever....uncertainty, possibly unrest amongst the squad (people who Sven bought in/who like Sven may look to leave - stawlwarts like Dunne possibly already are due to the uncertainty), anger amongst the fans and oh....yep....if its Scolari we'll have a manager who has about 3 weeks to buy players after Euro 2008....reminiscent of last summer and that got us to Europe didn't it....

If the good Doctor, or his "advisers" reads these comments "DON'T DO IT" you'll have to pay him off and seeing as he has done what you asked £4-6M compensation would look after the academy for 5 years and to me loosing that amount would be very bad business.
As for the boy blues well done last night fellas...If those lads become our "team of 99" then we have a very bright future indeed....

Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Before me things create were none,
save things Eternal, and eternal I endure.
All hope abandon ye who enter here.

COMS - HELL is there a difference?
When is this eternal failure,at all levels within the club going to stop?
