The £6m Bulgarian international has been out of action since badly damaging his knee ligaments in the opening minutes of last August's derby win over United.
Since then there have been a couple of false dawns in terms of his comeback, but now boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is convinced it is all systems go on the road to recovery.
"If you had asked me a week ago whether he would feature again this season I would have had some doubt but now not so much," reported the City chief.
"He did an excellent session on Tuesday morning, the best I've seen from him since he got injured. Tomorrow the reserves play Liverpool and hopefully he will play the last 20 or 30 minutes.
"He has shown a great improvement in a week and while he is far away from 100 per cent match fitness he is physically able to do everything we ask of him.
"It would be mentally very good for him to have one more taste of the Premier League before the season finishes."
Young central defender Nedum Onuoha, who has had an operation on his shoulder, will now be on the sidelines for 12 weeks. The 21-year-old suffered a dislocation in a collision with Michael Essien against Chelsea at the weekend.
"Nedum will hopefully be ready for when we start pre-season," confirmed Eriksson. "His run in the side had done him good and the injury is bad for him and us, but that is football."
How much have City missed Bojinov this season? Have your say.
