PETER Crouch is top of City's transfer hit-list as Sven-Goran Eriksson splashes the cash in the January sales.
He wants to pair Liverpool's £12m-rated England striker with Mexican international Nery Castillo to boost the Blues' chances of European football next season.
City's phenomenal revival has led to billionaire owner Dr Thaksin Shinawatra re-evaluating expectations and he is willing to up the ante to woo more stars to Eastlands, knowing the financial benefit and world exposure from Champions League qualification.
Castillo, on a £3m loan deal from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, has been training with the City's first team squad at Carrington but won't be able to make his debut at Newcastle on Wednesday as he has to be registered 24 hours before he plays and the Premier League HQ is not open tomorrow.
With a possible £7m deal for Saudi Arabian national captain and Asia Player of the Year Yasser Al Qahtani now off, Eriksson is stepping up his hunt for new faces.
After the 0-0 draw with Liverpool, the Blues' boss said: "Castillo has happened and there will be something more.
"The players we are talking about are big ones and cost a lot of money."
Should City go after Crouch? Have your say.

I have never been convinced by Crouch. And that, linked with the style of football that his height usually creates, leaves me feeling luke warm about this one. What would the team formation look like with both Castillo and Crouch up front? Where will Elano fit in?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I don't care who we sign as long as they are an improvement on what we already have and can push the team on in the second half of the season ..We also need to move the senior players out who are not going to make the first team so they do not block the progress of the useful academy graduates such as Etuhu and the likes of David Ball and Ched Evans who are starting to make waves.
We are all well aware of Thaksin's spnding power but I believe he is a businessman first and will want Sven to bring in guaranteed quality in this window as the summer was a bit of a gamble which in the main has paid off
Forget the transfers Sven & Frank. Here are the important issues :-
1) Sort out the Thai Sighia draught so it can be poured faster.
2) Put some heating ducting in the concourses.
3) Let the buses away from the ground earlier so I don't get cut short and mess me kex like I did yesterday.
Cheers Franky and Svenny son.
What a fantastic year. This time last year we were massively in debt, competing with the likes of Bolton, Wigan, Sheff Utd and Fulham for mediocrity and staring relegation in the face. Now we are totally debt free. Have one of the best european managers at the helm (instead of the touchline jester) and playing with flair and excitement in a top 5 spot just off CL places. We are a "massive club" and Sven will bring us silverware. Thank you Dr Thaksin, Sven and Mr Wardle and Mr Makin for being realistic. Bring on 2008.
Come on City, Crouch, do me a favour, if we're going to spend big money on a striker theres far better players out there.
I mean to say , Crouch, In Sven i used to trust
Think Crouch would be ideal for us. Ability to win headers up front is the only thing we now don't have in our armoury. Last year would have been a disaster and lead to hoofing it up field at every oportunity, but we've got more football in us now and it would just give us massive variety of attacking options. Plenty of pace to support him from a little deeper (Petrov, Vass + Nery) and guile (Elano + Ireland), plus a poacher (Bianchi). Would love Berbatov, but Crouch more likely - though will take a big bid for Liverpool to sell to their nearest rivals(love writing that!) Almost forgot ...oh yeah we're got millions now. Go for it Sven.
City need a striker who will make opponents think "oh, hell, so & so is playing today, we're in trouble" and who will make City's supporters say "Good, he's playing today, we'll win, let's go to the match" The likes of Berbatov and even Robbie Keane do both, Peter Crouch does neither.
I'd prefer Dean Ashton
If Crouch is the big name signing we should be expecting then I am disappointed...sure Crouch can do a job for us but I can't say I am excited by the news.
This big signing - I'm telling you now it ain't Crouch. It' s BERBATOV.
Dear frank clark's guitar tutor
flair and excitement 2 shots on goal not one on target in 90mins not even one in the second half i don't think so I know we're a million miles away from last season but 2 years ago we beat them why when we play the top 4 we sit back all game when we're hoping to be up there in the top 4 I mean even Reading beat them the other week and they ship goals like there's no tomorrow
According to the Italian press to day, Inter Milan are pushing City for a deal to sign Elano, If it's still name your price it might be worth thinking about, going by the way he's playing, he's been very poor for weeks now £12m.+ sounds a good deal to me.
There is no point having someone up top to win headers if we're going to play one up front - the nod down will most likely be picked up by the defence. We need a striker to whom the ball sticks like glue so they can bring players into the game and a striker who can sprint into the channels onto Ireland, Elano, Petrov et al's through balls. I personally think Crouch is neither of these and would therefore prefer someone else. No doubt Sven will surprise as he did in the summer.
We need the quality of a Santa Cruz and Bentley if we are going to sustain our current league position.
Not excited by a Crouch signing at all. We would also get held to ransom over an English signature.
Crouch does not top Sven's wish list at all, what a load of baloney !
I am amazed at some of the negative comments in relation to Crouch. Please support these comments with facts as i will support him with facts. Crouch has played 58 prem games and scored 23, he has played 23 cup games scoring 10 and the best bit 25 internationals scoring 13. Now if my math is corret he has played 106 games with a return of 46 goals. Now for all those wanting to see a certain 29 year old storm cloud return his goal ratio is not as good as robo dancer's and he doesnt offer a different dimension to the team. Crouch is just 27 and at around 10mil will still be a fiscal asset in years where as Le Sulk would be worth little over the same period. I personally dont think it will be Crouch who arrives, neither would i like to say who will arrive. What i can state is that Svengali has stated in interview that City are in negotiations or several players both in UK and elsewhere and that they are expensive. I like every other Citizen feel like everyday in January will be like Xmas Day again. Happy New Year 2008 Citizens and good riddence to the memory of negotiations floundering at 11.58pm 31st Jan 2007 for a certain fat Egyptian
Happy New Year to All Blue
Wait and see, he knows better than you and me!
Svennis from Heaven. Trust in Sven!
i would like crouch but not for anything more than 7 million.
we need 2 midfielders(bentley and modric), an out and out striker (anelka or berbatov), and a left back (chilleni) then we are almost certain to get 5th place.
i would sell samaras for around 3 mill, dabo around 500k, and corradi to parma for 1.5 mill
loads of rubbish, Sven said he is chasing a foreign player.
the aricle writer must be Jidi in disguise.
Anyone but chop sticks please
SI
We have about as much chance of signing Berbatov as Manure have of being the best club in the world. The guys a glory hunter who also wants a big big wage. He'll either go to chelski if they want him or Manure if they can sell/swap enough players to get him. Like previous posts I'd get up the M6 and prise Santa Cruz out of Blackburn.
so our best player has a poor patch and we should sell him blueloon?
Crouch NO NO NO NO,but YES YES YES to Keane,Berbatov and Defoe.
Here we go again, tell you Pool will deny it and say he is going nowhere then we will get a link with St Michael Owen, please MUEN can we have some fresh rumours even if they are not true, how about VanDe Vaart, Diego, Robinho, Izalohimvic (can't spell) anybody other than the same old names.
