CITY striker Rolando Bianchi admits he is still struggling to settle in England despite breaking into the City first team.
Bianchi, signed from Reggina in the summer, has taken a swipe at referees as well as English food and drinking culture.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I am learning the language but I have raised the white flag with English food. I don't like it."
Asked about the perceived drinking culture in English football, Bianchi said: "I think I am the only teetotaller in the whole Premier League. My team-mates were surprised when I refused a mouthful of beer.
"They looked at me as if I was an extra-terrestrial. Tastes are tastes, and I have chosen for some time - no beer, no wine, no alcopops."
English referees are too liberal, in the view of Bianchi.
"I have had to get used to the referees," said Bianchi. "Here it's hard for a striker. In Italy if a defender touches you the referee blows. In the Premier League you don't get a free-kick even if the defender runs you over. I am getting used to this new refereeing rhythm."
Not everything in Manchester displeases 24-year-old Bianchi who admits he feels affection for the supporters.
"They made a song just for me with the words of Volare by Domenico Modugno and it's good to hear that rising to the heavens in Italian," said Bianchi.
Bianchi, who has scored four Premier League goals this season, hinted he would return to Italy at the end of the season rather than January.
He said: "I want to be a top European striker. After 18 goals with Reggina last season I want to get into double figures in the Premier League.
"Then I will pack my bags and look for a new adventure. I would like to play for Atletico Madrid and also score 15 goals or so in La Liga."
But he hinted Italy would be a more likely destination, saying: "I will be back soon for a simple reason. My dream is to wear the national team jersey. Playing abroad won't help me."
Bianchi revealed he almost joined Fiorentina during the close season, saying: "I was very close to Fiorentina last season. (Cesare) Prandelli is a great coach and it would be good to work with him. But I would not refuse an offer from Inter, Milan, Juve, Napoli or Roma."
What do you think? Have your say.

Obviously he's setting his stall out for a move, either next month or in the summer. I can't see the club allowing him to come out with comments like this to the press if they hadn't sanctioned it or were aware of his feelings. Clubs are far too press savvy these days to allow a player to spout off as and when they please. Reading between the lines he can't hack the physical side of the Prem. It's a shame, I thought he had potential.
This is something we came to hear from Anelka whenever he spoke to the french press. Don't know whether it is mischeif making from the likes of M(U)EN or lost in translation a bit, coincidence that the Elk is a muslim and is also teetotal? The English football culture is changing but maybe not as fast as we thought.
I have to agree with what he says though, I am English and I prefer Italian food, if he wants to play for Italy he is better off going home (all 22 of Italy's world cup team played in Italy) and the refs are much tougher in Italy.
Sounds like a clean living kind of guy, I hope he stays and goes well passed double figures, this and next season at least

"If" these are his real feelings then he needs to be going in January .. I like the lad but it seems that he has made up his mind that England is not too his tastes which is fair enough..no point flogging a dead horse is it
Oh...erm...well...goodbye then.
What?
...This sounds like an old interview He did when back home durring one of the international breaks earlier in the season When He couldnt get in the team!...
Take it with a pinch of salt,
in any case non of the big clubs in Italy would want him,not for what City payed for Him in the summer, paper talk-me thinks!....
..I see the Joey Barton soap Opera took another twist, the lengths this Guy has gone to not to be on the pitch next week when He gets another footballing lesson off the likes of Petrov and Elano!
This Guy deserves everything that is coming to Him!..Thank God City got nearly £6M for Him,Barcodes wont get a bean for Him now,ha ha ha ha!Happy New Year Joey-NOT!!!....
city need players that can hit the ground running as we have too many that cannot settle ie Bianchi,Samaras,Elano. Other teams seem to sign foreigners that are ready for a new challenge..
If he thinks city are just a stepping stone, i say get rid in january. arrivederci bianchi. ciao
I like Bianchi as a player but I think his ambition is slightly misguided. These clubs he talks about wanting to play for already have top notch strikers playing for them and in a year or two we will be competing and beating them in Europe.Ok he does not like the food and does not drink,I can think of a dozen good Italian restaurants and pizza takeaways!
Yeah this does sound like something he was saying around that time of the international break, kinda like when it was reported micah wanted to go to arsenal and it turned out he said it when he'd jus broken into our squad.
I think we can take it he wasn't the other premier league player in the lavvy with Micah then!
his miss last night was inexcuseable and one which was one of the worst I've seen by a City player---- COME BACK SAMARAS ALL IS FORGIVEN. no seriously it can happen to the best and he needs to get over it and go on to score two against Liverpool on Sat if selected of course. Its a team game and it has to be remembered the two goals we conceded against Blackburn were from very poor defending from our skipper Mr untouchable himself nowadays Richard Dunne!
If he is sounding off now about going home, then send him now, nuff said
dream on bianchi-i,m not singing volare mate,i'm singing "go now" cos to me you are useless.you hardly won a ball last night and my 2 year old grandson wouldn,t have missed that sitter! if we don,t get a REAL STRIKER and very soon-the only way we,ll see europe is with easy jet! P.S.GOOD RIDDANCE JOEY -LOCK THE DOOR -THROW AWAY THE KEY.
Can't see us getting anything like £9 mill from what he has shown so far,
why do people assume because
a player wants to go somebody is certain to buy him at our price.
Don't assume Thak is going to continue to shell out big money on unproven (in the Premiership)
players Biachi and Elano our most expensive signings are looking very dodgy.
Well even if it is an old interview he is setting himself up for criticism. Just to get into double figures in the Prem seems like something he wants on his CV. Thats fair enough but like a lot of others although I like him he's not as potent as what I was expecting and really don't think he will make a prolific striker. Shame, but now I would prefere cahing in for £7-8m and use the cash for someone a bit more effective.
do you remember what samaras said when he joined us? he wanted to play for a bigger club...and where is he now? jesus! bianchi obviously has plans. maybe its just me, but i want players that are fully commited to city!
The article in full can be found here: http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Estero/Primo_Piano/2007/12_Dicembre/28/bianchi.shtml
I've found the Bianchi saga something of an enigma ever since he was dropped by his Svenship after his first two (very effective) games for us, and this interview does nothing to diminish that.
Compare "voglio conquistare con il City un posto nella prossima Champions League" (now that I do like!) with "Tornerò presto. Per un motivo semplice: il mio sogno è indossare la maglia della nazionale. E giocare all’estero non mi aiuta".
So he's aiming to shoot City into the Champions League, but wants out because we're hampering his international career???T The guy's mixed up. And he could miss sitters for, er, Italy.
I'd like to know where Bianchi is getting his "English" food! I didn't think there were any English restaurants in Manchester anymore?
Tell him to go to Donatello on the A6 in Stockport. Fantastic Italian restaurant - best I've ever been in, and believe me I've been in plenty!!
elano hasn't settled? what nonsense!! CTID
David Barrow,
our problems are at the back and Sven has to address it quickly. The old cliche is build from the back. I know the referee decisions annoy a lot of City fans but the stark reality is our defence is starting to look very vunerable Micah's confidence is shot to pieces and like many times in the past I doubt Richard Dunne's ability at times.Spurs second goal in the Carling Cup and the two Rovers goals last night surely must concern the most BIASED City fan.I honestly feel it would be foolish for any of us to suggest our team can eradicate the 32 year old shadow of not winning a trophy this season because although disappointments are part of the course another one this season could have far reaching affects, let us all accept a three or four year aim from Sven because COME ON this team is not good enough yet not even for a top six spot.First and foremost we need a team full of bad losers!
leave Bianchi alone and allow to get on with getting it right at City. I cant hear many City fans having a go at Dunne who was very poor against Blackburn giving a helping hand in both their goals. Its seven games ago since we kept a clean sheet now which must concern Sven greatly, can any of us put our hands on our hearts and say "Liverpool wont score on Sunday"
The fact is that Bianchi is calling it as he sees it. He wants to go back to Italy - his dream is to play for one of their big clubs 'one day' and he said so on the day he signed for City. He gives his all in a Blue shirt and we should get behind him while he is with us.
As for not liking English food, well that's a matter of taste. He can find or make plenty of Italian food here if he wants it.
Bianchi said he is finding it ard to settle in Englanf with the food the country the lanugrage most of are new players Have settled very quickly with the languge and playing like
Elano, Petrov, Corluka,Garrdio,Geovani,Fernandes Bianchi Has got to settle sometime why did he join then if he did'nt like the food or drink he even said he is not happy with the referees in england he said in italy if a player touchs u run you over you get a free kick but in england he said if you do that in england you dont get a free kick
