MONEY TO SPEND: Sven-Goran Eriksson

SVEN-GORAN Eriksson has put his spying network on full alert as he searches for players who can improve the Blues when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.

The manager has another midfielder and a striker at the top of his `to buy' list and has been told there will be money - though not vast fortunes to spend.

"I have spoken to the owner more than once about the availability of cash in the January window and, in general, he has said that we can spend if I feel we need to," said Sven.

"It is more important to spot the one, two, or three players that we might need and then present the possible cost to the owner to see if he is happy with it.

"That process of spotting targets has already begun. It started as soon as the last window closed.

"I don't know where some of the huge figures on what finance is available are coming from, not from anyone within Manchester City, that is for sure. The thing to do is just laugh about them."

Here are some hypothetical questions for you.
1 - If City are top of the league come January would you buy a superstar and change the team to fit him in. Before you answer think Alison/Marsh
2 - Would you ever change a winning team. Think Mpenza/Schmichael/Dunne after the result last Sunday?

Lets hope that AMc is not involved in any part of the negotiations and that he sticks to his present role of driving the chairman around.When the club used Jerome Anderson to negotiate the 8 signings things ran qiuckly,quietley and without any hitches and without any leaks to the press.

I have absolute faith in his transfer policy. Thus far its brought players of a quality we could have only dreamed of last season. Would like to see someone who I didn't have to youtube to learn more about them but thats just personal preference.

If anyone honestly expected more from Sven and Thaksin Shinawatra than that they should really take a big reality check or clear off to the swamp. I read our forums everyday and some City fans have the shortest memories, Since Keggys first season the standard of our football has been in steady decline lets just enjoy the our rise to back to the top.

City are back, trust in Sven.

If Sven had 100 million to spend it wouldn't make much sense advertising it, would it. We only need a couple of players in January window and we should just leave the man to sort it out. Onwards and upwards.

Doesn't need much but reckon left back, midfielder, centre forward and probably more keen to offload a few, especially bearing in mind that some of the loans out expire in Jan!

They are not going to admit there is alot of money to be spent when the already daft prices go stupid. so you keep your head down deny everything then do the quick snatch and grab.I Remember steve daly and kevin reeves we were just held to ransom.Lets keep our heads down and say nowt that way come jan suprise suprise.in svennis we trust

I think it is fairly safe to say Sven will add a couple of players to the squad in January to supplement the players we already have. I would like to see another striker and an out-and-out right winger to give us the width on both flanks, and that could make us a more than decent team capable of getting a place in the euro positions. Next season I would then bring in a tough tackling midfielder to compete with Hamann and Gelson, a left sided player (midfield/wing) possibly a left footed centre back/left back and icing on the cake another creative midfielder to give Elano competition. what I like about most of the players Sven brought in is their adapdability and willingness to work together as a team.

Never let anyone know how little or how much you have, there is money, who knows how much? Frank did say "whatever it takes" when he took over, no neeed to doubt that. After all we are the second highest net spenders in the EPL this season.

Targets for January: A striker with pace, someone who can play off Binachi. Anelka and Defoe spring to mind. Both could be realistic targets as Bolton could be struggling and Defoe won't fancy a season on the bench. I think we then need a defensive midfielder. We should've gone for Diop from Fulham but he went to Pompey so someone like Poulsen who again we've been linked with would be ideal. Quality defensive midfielders are hard to find so it's likely we'll go abroad again. As well as Bresciano I'd like us to add someone on the right. Again it's hard to find the quality. Quaresma look good last night but he might be out of our league, especially if Porto progress. So we'll have to shop abroad again I think!

Joe Cole and Wayne Bridge have been mentioned. That would be pretty sweet. Can't see it though. Gareth Barry to replace Hamaan in the future may be an idea. Possibly Defoe up front with Bianchi - Vagner Love may be worth a look. This is all speculation anyway.

My two cents from the Swedish legue regarding a striker would be the 20 yr old Johan Oremo from the team Gefle in Sweden. Hardly known outside Sweden but shown a great striker capacity and a smart guy. Mentally not so far from Richards low key attitude. He would probably fit fast into this "new" Manchester City team. Here we go again, mentioning well known names such as Riqueleme etc ,we had this all summer and what did we end up with.
We have fluked two of our victories and if anyone is kidding themselves that Sven has bought quality,just wait until Richards is missing.
The loyal city fans are not kidded either,25,000 at the most on sunday,so lets wake up and smell the roses ,we aint going to attract any decent players with the presnt set up,very worrying.

What the hell are MUEN on about, at no point in Sven's quotes does it say that there is not a large transfer kitty available. It purely says the figures being banded are not from within the club!!!!

We dont need huge figures even if they are available (why would we tell other clubs anyway!!!) One strinker (Defoe's situation seems unretievable???) and a midfielder (Breschiano????)The defence is very strong and to the guy who said left back needed, you clearly know nothing about football, Garrido has been a steady performer this season, why do we need to change the most solid defence in the league? Idiot.

I would like a centre midfield player that is neat and tid on the ball but will kick anything that moves. Someone like Mascherano would be a great signing. Obviously we could not get him but someone in that mould would anchor our midfield well.

A big name striker would be great. We do not a great player who is entering the final stages of his career i.e. Trezeguet/Gudjohnson. Their hungar may have diminshed. We need someone who has shown he is a good player and is about 25, therefore going into their peak years. Problem is: who is about? Vagner Love may be a good shout as he fits that bill. Problem is I watched him play for Brazil a few times and thought he was poor.

The obvious one is Huntelaar. Would love to see him here but he may be holding out for one of the worlds elite clubs lke Barca, Real or Milan. If he fails to get his move to one of them he may settle on a move to United unfortunately.

I dont think the quality is already in the premiership. There are lots of good leagues in Europe now outside Italy, Spain and England so maybe there is someone in Holland, Greece, Germany, Croatia, France etc who may be the business.
