Manchester City

Blackburn v Man City: Player ratings

6 SCHMEICHEL - critics will point at his travails when the ball is in the air but enjoyed precious little protection

5 CORLUKA - this was his least impressive performance since he arrived. Looked a little weary

5 RICHARDS - hope England wasn't on his mind because at times he looked as if his head was elsewhere

6 DUNNE - got lucky with one clearance that hit own bar and then unlucky to be sent off

5 GARRIDO - appeared vulnerable when Bentley ran at him and offered little going forward when Blues fell behind

6 ELANO - he looked as though he would run the game for ten minutes then inexplicably faded out of it

6 HAMANN - even he put the odd pass out of place as the Blues struggled for any kind of foothold

6 IRELAND - tried his hardest to make things happen but it wasn't his day and he was replaced after break

5 JOHNSON - youngster only managed half an hour before being replaced by Mpenza as City chased the contest.

5 PETROV - one early shot brought a fine flying save from Friedel but thereafter failed to deliver anything significant

5 BIANCHI - outshone by Santa Cruz Never really had any clear cut chances to add to his two goal tally

SUBS:

6 MPENZA (for Johnson 32) - worked hard but no great service

6 ONUOHA (for Ireland 71) - steady job when Dunne dismissed

6 GEOVANNI (for Petrov 76) - no time to show his magic

6 for Dunne, you must be joking! Yet again we see that against class opposition, namley De La Cruz, that Dunney is found wanting. He was all over the place and his sending off was inevitable. Sorry you Dunney lovers but if we are actually ever going to win anything in the future, it will have to be WITHOUT the overrated Dunne.

Funny that I was one of the only ones saying we should sign Santa Cruz....everyone pointed to his low scoring ratio from wikipedia. He has been brilliant this season.

Blackburn today demonstrated to the rest of the premier league managers (when they come to watch videos of us prior to playing us) how easy it is to snuff out Elano.

You cannot score goals if you don;t have shots.... one shot from within 30 yards of goal is absolutely disturbing! Blackburn had 8 of their 18 shots (11 on target) within 25 yards of our goals. We had one of our 10 (only 3 on target) within 25 yards.

Therefore Blackburn deserve their win!

How can Ireland get a 6? He did nothing, except for ruining city's breakthroughs. He is a shame.

Reality is that we are not a top four team, I am not being pessamistic, far from it, I'm delighted we've got 9 from 15 points. we've had a great start to the season and lost away to two great sides. We are already ten times the team we were under Pearce and are in no danger of being in a relegation fight that we would have been under Pearce. One or two today lost the will to fight to the cause and I feel the ratings are about right, we never seemed to get going. Lets face it Blackburn are a bogey team and we never do well against them (not since we last got promotion there) and I'd rather lose to them than United any day. Looking at the table we are still above Utd. City til I die

What has Ireland actually done to get back in the side Geovanni did nothing wrong. Micah Richards was definitly not up for this game. Javier Garrido had a nightmare, felt a little sorry for Johnson, but it had to be changed. Petrov has probably been the least effective out of the new signings and today showed again. Still thing Sven should have bought a few more players like Bresicano who would have been effective in these type of games.

That teaches you guys to think realistically in the first place. I'm not saying you will get relegated, i'm just saying Sven was and is a poor manager. So don't start thinking your players will adopt a fighting spirit, as Sven would struggle to inspire school kids let alone professional footballers. I think if you had a better manager then that fight would be there and also the players might respect their gaffa. How anyone could ever respect Sven is beyond me, he's slept with anyone who is sad enough to get at his money or limelight and his loyalty is only for money and you cant argue with that. He was willing to sell out England when they gave him everything and was only interested in coming out of the wilderness for money not for loyalty and love of the game. He will never be a Clough, Fergie, a Mourinho, even a Benitez or Big Sam. I'm just a bit confused why a lot of city fans were so happy to have in the first place, surely a lot of you didn't like the look of him from his England days and even before at Lazio, Rome etc etc, he has never been prolific at the highest level. I'm just wondering what you guys think about the guy? And if you could have another manager, who would you have? Obviously you will think my opinion is biased, fair enough. But if my team was struggling and not going anywhere fast, Sven would be very, very, very far down the list of potential managers.

Watched the game over Internet again, and I think City Started ok. Felt it was dangerous when Elano fired up in the midfield, but directly after Blackburn scored, City lost everything. Blackburn put pressure on the City players all the time we had the ball, and the passing got really bad. Easy misstakes and no movement up front made it easy for Blackburn. I telt that Garrido was not good with the ball, lost it a lot of times.

Second half started as bad as the first ended. Blackburn continued to pressure city players to easy misstakes, but after Tugay´s red card I felt that City could come back into the game. Unfortunatly Dunne got sent off and Blackburn got their act up again.

We lost it due to Blackburns workrate to press city players all the time when City had the possesion, They closed down and did not let Elano into the game....

Desperately dissapointed with todays performance (not the result so much).No-one played well in a City shirt after the first 10 mins. We created nowt & looked jittery at the back. Gorrido was a liability today. But anyone who knocks Richard Dunn doesn't know what they're talking about. He's been far and away our best player for the last two seasons& we would have been relegated without him.He occasionally has an off day, but then who doesn't? his off days are few & far between.

martin petrovs apparent willingness to shrink away and not effectively contribute, continues, and is worrying, i was hoping that we may bring in some new faces prior to the deadline. p.b. diop wud have been a shrewd signing, becos im sure that hamman will miss a few games. n'zogbia could have given petrov some competetion, and may be some of n'zogbias work ethic, and delivery wud have given petrov something to think abt. dejan stefanovic (experienced, reliable, and felxible lcb/lb to give some cover in defence, at 1m, i think fulham got themselves a bargain. now sge has to take a serious look at city's last 2 pl games, take stock, and work something out. sge has to work on how the team can stop so many balls/crosses into the box, and start to give our strikers some decent service at the other end. pip..pip..

petrov 5!? what a waste of money. Hes got absolutely no pace at all and his shots are pathetic and weak. Petrov 2- just for showing up and playing in the rain!

Ive not been impressed with any of Erikssons signings and how can you pay 9 million 4 a one season wonder in Bianchi? It takes more than one season for a player to prove himself Eriksson!!! should bought Santa Cruz- a snip at 3 mil. will finish 13th, 14th this season if we're lucky.

Disappointed with the team over the 90 minutes. We did not create enough in the last third. Sven said as much afterwards. Blackburn will be looking to finish in the top 6 this season and are a good yard stick as to where we are. Understandably with the short time Sven has had there is still a lot of work to do. Disappointed that our free kicks were poor (Just an aside-why is Fazackerly still at City?). yet Blackburn always looked dangerous with theirs and their corners. Despite being disappointed still believe we will finish in the top 10 this season and will see some good football on the way.

Quite agree prove again that Dunne is not a top class Premier player and will always struggle against a good striker seen it happen too many times and by the end of the season I think the number of games he plays will be few and far between. Another player who flatters to deceive is Ireland and I think he will get very few games also and have to go! Dont know what was on Richards mind today, guess it was money or England probably both?

We need a couple of hard nuts to sort the opposing players out and our foreigners will have to toughen up and give some of the other teams a kicking as it is the only language they know am I right Ferguson and Hughes!

Midefield was too lightweight today. Blackburn are well renowned for their hard tackling and Sven should've prepared his team accordingly. Maybe switching Richards to midfield would've added a bit of bite in there. We needed to try and match them with steel. As Arsenal have found in the past, Blackburn have no respect for fancy football. Still, nine points from the opening five games isn't a bad return, however we'l need to show a vast improvement if we are to get anything from the Villa game.

We're still only one point off the top teams with two home games coming up.
Petrov was and is very disappointing. He came in with the job of solving the left wing problem and he's not up to it.
Kasper is good but can't wait to have Issakson back. Will he be available for the Villa game?
Dunne should have been taken off at half time. He was woeful.
Elano was pushed of the ball and how Blackburn got away with some of their tackles I don't know.
Hamman suffered the some way as well as Ireland.
I hope we come back after the international better than this and that we don't suffer the usual results after the international break!

I don't want to appear negative so early in the season, BUT..... Nedam and Bally are both better defenders than the new signings. We have no pace in either midfield or attack. Haaman IS finished, Ireland is lost on the wing, Bianchi looks like a Corradi/Samaras love child and Petrov, well, you tell me what does he do? Apart from being a coward what is he about? Second to the ball all afternoon today and posed absolutely no threat. I just hope Sven is a decent judge of his signings now that he actually seen them and acts appropriately

Most of these players were rested mid-week. Most of the Blackburn players were playing their hearts out to get into Europe.

They still managed to completely overrun us - just like Arsenal did the week before.

Luckily it was only a 1-0 on both occasions.

Sven should play a 4-5-1 away from home - it is not the away teams job to play pretty football on the road, it is the away teams job to snatch the points - no matter how ugly they play. The home team are there to impress their fans and play pretty football in their own yard. Our Midfield was very weak today and has been all season. Ireland is not up to standard. Johnson needs much more time and Petrov and Elano are going to need a season of football to settle and a season in the gym to get strong enough. Hammann doesn't have a season left in him , but he has been good so far.

What can Dabo do? Worth a try if he can improve the midfield - he has a season here and is on big money!

Fernandez could maybe do a job? Why keep him waiting if he is good enough?

Edski Vega, Nottingham: what will really be funny is when Roque picks up his one zillionth injury and encamps in the training room. His scoring ratio has never been a problem, but his fitness
has always been. You would know that if you had followed his career or had even a passing acquaintance with Die Bundesliga.....

Did we give them too much respect and got ourself nervous and allow it to carry us away? The boys seen to be uncomfortable on that slippery pitch. Are they wearing the wrong type of boots. Some of them were misfiring too frequently.
