Sven: Time for Mills to move on

CITY boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed that there is no future for Danny Mills at City.

Eriksson has radically re-shaped the squad since his arrival, and there will be no room for the former England defender.

He told www.mcfc.co.uk: "I have known Danny Mills a long, long time. He played a whole World Cup for England in Japan and did very well.

"Danny Mills is a super professional football player and is probably one of the fittest we have here. But sometimes maybe it’s time to move on and I’m sorry about that.

"He is a nice man, a good lad to have around and gives everything out there, you always know what you get from Danny and that’s 100%. He doesn’t have any other gear other than 100%."

He is too slow but is a good hard player.Get rid of M.Mills,O.Dabo,H.Hamman,I.Miller.D.Vassell,Consider selling Sun in the january transfer window,plus other players that are not up to scratch

to be fair to danny, it's not his fault that leeds, boro and then city paid him astromical wages. he's a decent ful back, but not worth the £60k a week leeds were paying (and still are paying £30k if i'm not mistaken)

he's done ok for us, and would be good cover, but we might aswell sell him or free him up and let someone else pay his wages if we have no intention of playing him. he won't get past corluka, onuoha, richards imho so may aswell let him go.

severence fee would be a bit thoguh, £30k a week for 2 years... halfed... ooof!

Unfortunately he never maintained any kind of form in a weak team, and the writing has been on the wall for a long time. He was always saddled with the resentment people had for his huge contract from Leeds (like Fowler, Viduka, Johnson et al)and never really showed why he was worth it. At times when he played for Leeds, he looked a class apart - especially attacking down the wing - but not at City. He's a premiership squad player at best but would probably do well to slash his wages, get into the Championship and enjoy the last few years of his career. I doubt anyone will miss him and I doubt anyone will remember much about his time here either - sad to say, but another player who made little impact.

I'd have kept him. Everybody's favourite scapegoat. But if he aint gonna feature then its a big wage possibly coming off the bill.

definately need to clear a few out and mills is one. regarding sven not buying english i cannot agree with barnes, davies, mccari, brooking, sven should buy english, just think instead of bianchi, fernandes, geovanni, elano, corluka, bojinov, petrov garrido, for a similar amount we could have had four english guys smith, bent,reococker, and baines, give sven a break the above illustrates why he has not bought english, we need a new team not three or four to slot in like most clubs.

Ref:Tommy bates - Not sure what games you've been watching if you think Nedum cannot hack it. He was outstanding when he was in the team and it was no surprise we grinded out some results when he was playing. He was also the outstanding player in the England team at the u-21 championships. All about opinions and in mine, he is a premiership class player with a future at City.

Just a thought.......Didn't pearce spend the last 2 seasons trying to get rid of Danny Mills, but because of the lucrative contract Keegan gave him he wouldn't move?......What makes any of us think that unless another team matches his wages on at least a 2 year contract that he'll move now Sven's told him he can leave??

Great decision Sven. Ned is a good enough full back & will hopefully improve over time. Glad to see he's got the guts to make hard decisions. Agree with also letting Dickov & Dabo go, but would like to see Hamann follow ASAP as he's just not got the legs any more, even though his distribution is OK most of the time. Would also consider selling Vassell. He may be fast & work his socks off, but as a Striker his job is to finish & the amount of one on ones he's squandered puts a big question mark over him in my eyes. Think Samaras is worth keeping for another year to see how he develops. Pearce playing him on the wing was a joke!

You dont win the Premier League with players like Danny Mills, no offense..

Bring the best quality for money , Arsenal and Chelsea have managed pretty well without English players over the last few years....

And by the way , we've got a great academy , so why spend loads of money on English players!

You know what is good about this statement - the way Sven does it.

He doesn't mince his words or try and dress it up with smarm and false charm. But he does it clearly, concisely and politely. Mills knows exactly where he stands but will find it difficult to slag anyone off as a result of this statement.

Others should watch and learn at the feet of the master.

No chance of him moving - he won't take a cut in wages. It was the same when Clueless Kev signed him, he was on stupid Leeds wages while on loan at Boro. Only Kev would match his wages. He'll sit his contract out.

Haven't we been here before, the problem will still be that nobody wants him and his crazy wages, and he clearly has no desire to lave/play/reduce his income all in one swoop, so we'll have to subsidise his wages at his next club or he'll be going exactly nowhere.

He certainly gave 110% effort in holding onto his lucrative pay packet....gotta give him that much!

Probably will go doan as one of the worst City signings, rivaling Clough and Mcmanaman. With any luck Alan Curbishley will sign him to add to the other ageing nonsense he has signed this summer.... i'm sure Mills injury will miraculously recover if he does!

Agreed, does not fit into the modern Premiership fulback position although added much needed steel a few years back and has by no means been a total failure. I still find it amazing that he earns so much for his job put is extremely bad at passing the ball up the line, first line of the job description I would have thought!!

I have to admit I thought Mills was a good signing by KK at the time, but then again City have had a reputation in the past for turning good players average. Wouldn't have give him a 5 year contract though! Who is going to take him and his massive salary now? Don't think he will be sold any time soon.....CTID
