The England striker, the subject of a £1m bid from Turkish side Besiktas earlier in the week, was rushed back to Carrington for treatment on a knee strain.
But he is expected to train this week and feature in the remaining pre-season games so sparking a possible race for his signature especially if, as expected, new boss Sven-Goran Eriksson brings in another hitman.
The Blues have also had to wrap skipper Richard Dunne and fellow defender Nedum Onuoha in cotton wool after they both picked up niggling muscle strains.
Both were left out of the final contest of the mini tour - a 4-0 win over Carlstad - as a precaution along with Scotland international Paul Dickov who was also deemed unfit after bruising his toe badly.
The quartet's absence didn't, however, protect the Swedish minnows from feeling the full force of City's `boot of Italy' as the free-scoring Blues made it three out of three pre-season wins.
New signing Rolando Bianchi and Bernardo Corradi, who have struck up an immediate understanding both on and off the pitch, both took their summer goal spree to three.
And Corradi immediately backed his goal-happy new pal to be a big hit in the Premiership after a big-money switch from Reggina in Serie A.
Important
"He is young, strong and a natural scorer of goals so he has all the characteristics needed to be a success in England," reckoned Corradi. "I am sure he will play a very important part in our season."
Eriksson chose the final game of the mini tour to send out a mix and match side but it still only took the confident Blues five minutes to show their scoring power.
It was Bianchi who provided the pass for Corradi to round the keeper and tap City into a fifth-minute lead.
By way of saying thank-you, the in-form Corradi, who has found the net in each of the three warm-up matches, combined with Stevie Ireland to set up the second midway through the half.
The £9m Bianchi scored with a low drive and that remained the score until the 51st minute when Bianchi again profited from some clever approach play involving Danny Mills and Corradi.
Carlstad had their chance to reduce the deficit in the game's next attack when Micah Richards was adjudged to have handled in the area but Kasper Schmeichel, on as a second-half sub for Joe Hart, pulled off a fine save to show why he is such a wanted man in the Scottish Premier League.
The usual rash of late substitutions followed but the balance of power was never in doubt and it was Marc Laird who drove the fourth home 12 minutes from time after Michael Johnson and Bianchi had been involved in the build-up.
Next up for the Blues at the weekend is a trip to Charleroi in Belgium, then Shrewsbury and Valencia before the big kick-off at West Ham. Meanwhile, Newcastle have confirmed Joey Barton will undergo surgery today on a fractured metatarsal and will be out for six weeks.
What is your verdict on City's pre-season so far? Have your say.

Point is he is on borrowed time. We need to keep him at the moment as we are very short of senior players. The fact that he is only here as we have no one else is sad inditement on how far Vass has fallen.

As a City fan I can understand the impatience of other fans wanting Sven to sign lots of players very quickly, I'm quite happy so far in the manner in which he has gone about things, it's a long time since City have signed someone without there being a glare of publicity beforehand, let him get on with bringing in good quality players quietly. Sure, some of them may not be world beaters (yet?) but they are definitely going to improve our squad over what we have had previously
Come on the Blue Boys!!!

It talks about Thaksin delisting the club and saying that new players are coming from Italy/Brazil and Sweden but doesnt name them. It also says that he wants us to sign to Thai players... Hope he isnt going to be trying to pick the team!

Being in the middle of the Asian Cup and having watched just about every game live there is nothing to fear in bringing Thai players in. After all we have Dickov, Hamann and Dabo. Last week (and the score line doesn't give credibility to this) but the Thai's played the Aussie's off the park. It took Australia's second goal to knock the stuffing out of them. The Thais, despite going out at the group stage didn't look too bad, whereas as Australia went in with way too much swagger and left with their tails between their legs.
Asian players are a damn site better than you would believe. The quality of the asian cup at times has been fantastic. Svennis isn't going to play anyone who isn't good enough.
God bless the blues

We can't expect Frak to give us millions without seeing the other side of the coin as well ......

if Carlstad made lager, it would probably be one of the worst ones Aldi sold....
That aside these friendlies are only a means for Sven to see how the team plays together. We certainly need many more players.
As for this Frank talk, Sven willnot let Frank dictate who plays and I doubt Frank would just bring over some unknown Thai players and demand they played - he knows it would be a big mistake and he knows they aren't good enough so it's not going to happn. He was talking about starting footballing academies around the globe.
As for the Frank Money issue, Frank does not own MCFC, his children are the main stakeholders, the reason was to prevent the club being seized if he was ever found guilty of the criminal charges. He has the final say as he has been elected Chairman but he/ we really are untouchable!
