Former City boss Stuart Pearce made a cheeky bid to bring Wright-Phillips back to Eastlands on loan in 2006, only to be rebuffed by Jose Mourinho.
But the prospect of the City Academy graduate going back to the club where he made his name refuses to go away, with Salford bookmaker Fred Done offering odds of just 5/2 on Eriksson signing the England winger.
Done's company Betfred has drawn up a list of 10 transfer targets Eriksson is likely to home in on should he take on the City job.
Wright-Phillips tops the list, with fellow right-winger Freddie Ljungberg, of Arsenal, next in at 4/1 and West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker at 6/1.
Magician
But Newcastle striker Michael Owen, who has already been suggested as an Eriksson target, is out at 12/1, the same as Blackburn's South African forward Benni McCarthy and United striker Alan Smith, and longer odds than Liverpool's Craig Bellamy at 8/1.
The chances of Smith moving across Manchester are small, even though the Yorkshireman is no stranger to controversial transfers, having arrived at Old Trafford from Leeds in 2004.
But if you really want long odds, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and West Ham's Argentinian magician Carlos Tevez are both priced at 33/1 to be running out in sky blue next season.
Betfred odds on City signings: Shaun Wright-Phillips 5/2, Freddie Ljungberg 4/1, Nigel Reo-Coker 6/1, Craig Bellamy 8/1, Benni McCarthy 12/1, Michael Owen 12/1, Alan Smith 12/1, Frank Lampard 33/1, Carlos Tevez 33/1, David Beckham 50/1.
