And that means players like Nick Weaver could also be left in limbo while their new contracts lie on the table.
Weaver, who becomes a Bosman free agent next month, had virtually agreed a new two-year deal with Stuart Pearce before the manager was sacked on Monday.
However, it has not been signed, and now the popular 28-year-old - who played 25 Premiership games this season and kept Sweden No 1 Andreas Isaksson on the bench for much of the time - must wait and see if the agreement is honoured.
Talks were also ongoing with Sylvain Distin and Nedum Onuoha, and were expected to commence with skipper Richard Dunne.
Meanwhile, Thaksin Shinawatra and his close advisors are within touching distance of launching the formal bid that will see them take control of the club from the three major individual shareholders John Wardle, David Makin and Mark Boler.
Domestic
Their first task, possibly even before the formalities of the takeover have taken place, will be to announce the appointment of a successor to Pearce.
It is certain that the new man will be one currently working abroad, but it is understood that he has yet to tell his current club because the domestic season in his country is yet to end.
The manager in question has been described as "one of the best available" by Shinawatra's advisors, and he will have a £50m transfer fund available.
Shinawatra, the former Thailand Prime Minister, and his advisers have taken charge of the appointment process along with Keith Harris, the football finance expert who heads up Seymour Pierce - the company that has been completing due diligence.
Harris watched the recent Manchester derby from the directors' box and was impressed by the support.
Shinawatra's £130m takeover is regarded within Sportcity as inevitable, and for that reason the current directors are unlikely to take an active part in the crowning of the new boss.
Current directors Boler, Dennis Tueart and Bryan Bodek are not expected to be kept on if and when Shinawatra takes control, though there may be an ambassadorial role for Wardle.
It is believed that the new owners will keep much of the present executive administration at the club, including chief executive Alistair Mackintosh.
What do you think? Have your say.

when do the other European leagues come to an end - anyone know?
As a shareholder I never saw any benefit in having Bodek and Tueart - so I am quite pleased about that, How about getting David Bernstein back is some capacity? - he was always very proffessional at AGM's and ran a tight ship, JW who I will always be grateful to for his substantial funding never looked comfortable in the role of chairman.

It's also 99% certain now that the new man will be Ranieri. Not my first choice, but certainly a big step up from Stu.
His current club, Parma, are narrowly avoiding relegation. But you need to look at what he has done there. When he took over in Feb they were as good as relegated, being next to bottom and adrift. They then took 15 points from 21 to climb the table. It's similar to what happened at West Ham in the prem. If he has City taken 15 points out of every 21, we'll be well pleased!

the shouting. Pearce and his backroom have all but gone
(the word ruthless springs to mind),Wardle and most of the board to follow. The club will be debt free for the first time in eons, and a top European coach will take the helm armed with a 50 mill
war chest.
It just goes to show how deluded SP really was if he thought he would still be here after all the above.

I read a post on here a few days back that stated a friend of somebody was at the Leyton Orient end of season party and Ranieri was also there. The friend of the poster asked Ranieri if he would be the next City boss to which he gave no clear indication in his response. Coincidentally Barry Hearn is an avid poker player and was online on a well known British poker site 2 nights ago, he is also Chairman???? at Leyton Orient so having read the post about Ranieri being at the Orient party I asked Hearn if Ranieri was present and it seems that indeed he was. I then asked if he had given any indication as to whether he would become the next City manager and this question was blatantly side stepped by Hearn.
Read in to this what you will.

if this takeover happens. it will be the best thing to happen to city since the glorious 60's - 70's.
money is the only answer in football these days. not sentiment, not romanticism, not loyalty.
money, business, aggression and clout.
those who haven't re-newed - i'd do so as soon as you can - things are gonna happen.

The problem is the likes of Johnson and Ireland are simply not good enough. They are both 1st team regulars at the club now for one simple reason, we are not good enough. If the club is going to progress then im afraid there is no place for the likes of Johnson and Ireland, they both give 100% and look decent players in the current set up but neither of them will ever be world beaters and if a new manager comes in and wants to buy two World class midfielders then I am sorry but as far as Johnson and Ireland are concerned it is just tough luck. Richards is different in that he is already in the England squad and has the undoubted potential to be a top top player and hopefully any new manager will not overlook this fact. Sturridge is another with undoubted potential but less we forget we thought the same of BWP and he cant get in the Southampton team so my judgement on him is reserved for now. I dont think any City fan wants us to lose good youngsters coming through the academy but with the takeover imminent its highly likely that if any youngsters are going to come through in years to come they are going to have to be in the same class as Richards rather than your Johnsons and Irelands. The truth is if we were any good Johnson and Ireland would not be in the team now.
