Ace Dunne wins record third award

SKIPPER SUPREME: Richard Dunne

CITY fans last night crowned Richard Dunne Player of the Season for a history-making third time in succession.

The 27-year-old Blues skipper, who has played every minute of every Premiership game this season, received an additional memento to mark the fact that he is the first man ever to land such a hat-trick.

Teenage England international Micah Richards, out of action after having an operation on a calf problem, capped a memorable campaign by landing the Young Player of the Season by the Official Supporters' Club.

Academy starlet Ched Evans, who topped the second string's goal charts, took the accolade of Most Promising Player at the event held in the Boardroom Suite at Sportcity.

Whilst not wanting to take anything away from Dunnie, the main reason he has won for a record breaking three years, is that during those years, the team has been full of complete dross.

Well who else has actually played well this season? Distin perhaps, most of the time. Richards despite moments of naivete. Barton certainly has. And er..... that's it.

RJKS - from what I've seen (admittedly only two games), Evans seems to have more about him tham Sturridge.

A mate of mine goes to every reserve and accademy game and he rates Evans higher than Sturridge.

I want to take nothing away from our captain who indeed has been superb, but to me it shows how poor the team is he played in during the last three seasons. Thats what you get when the board hardly invests. I do put my hope on players like Richards, Onuoha, Ireland, Johnston, Sturridge, Evans and our young goallies (yes, maybe Samaras to find his form), and that there may be enough cash coming in the club to buy quality.

Sturridge will fade into football oblivion like so many others...when they get the amount fo press he did last summer they start to think they are BIG TIME and they go out partying and acting like they are a top footballer..... its a shame but it happens all the time to every club!

Taking nothing away from Dunnie, I agree with many of the comments here..........the competitopn for this prize has been limited and it underlines the fact that we have had to rely too heavily on our defence to maintain Premiership status.

Well deserved - only other players I would have considered would have been Distin and Weaver, but Dunney has been great for 3 years now, and would certainly get my vote.

Well done to Dunnie and the other winners but can someone explain why no one from the board was present on such a great occasion? Are they afraid of the fans or snubbing the OSC or something else?

Edit, how about moving this report up the "tree" instead of all the stories about Barton. This is the type of good news we need right now.

Well Done Dunne (sorry but just could not resist that one).

Cheers for all the hard work you've put in and if it wasn't for you and Distin/Ball/Richards/Onouha & (yes) Thatcher, we would have been relegated this season.

Keep up the hard work and maybe one day soon you will get you rewards (European games, FA Cup medals, etc).
